Abstract

This research area is about practicing individual micro teaching by applying politeness strategies. There are some politeness strategies, and one of those are Face Threatening Acts or FTAs. Face Threatening Acts/ FTAs are kinds of facial expressions and gestures. Researchers assume that FTAs is very valuable and useful to be applied for micro teaching training. It is proven in this research. The micro teaching kind for this research paper is individual micro teaching. Researchers applied one shot case study of experiment research without control group. The researchers analyze the micro teaching practice through descriptive qualitative technique. There are not comparison techniques. Researchers just gave some treatments to subjects, then observed the application of the treatments. The findings and discussion are presented together in form of analysis tables in this paper. It is to analyze micro teaching performance one by one of all subjects of this research. In order to the research, the researchers hang on Brown and Levinson’s concepts of FTAs. Other additional theories and concepts also include to support them. Kata Kunci: Individual, micro teaching, politeness, strategies

Abstract

Case study is one of most used research type in language area especially in English education area. This research is actually a normal situation of classroom lecture of Language Teaching Learning Research subject. The subject of this research is all students of sixth semester of English department of STKIP PGRI Pacitan in the academic year 2014-2015. They consist of 2 classes which contain 65 students. It’s existed two meetings in LTLR subject. The first is the fourth meeting. Researcher taught all theories, concept, and frame work of case study. The second meeting is the fifth meeting of LTLR subject. It was conducted by giving task of developing a case study research plan to students. Researcher gives 4 choices of themes of case study according to kinds of case study which is education, evaluative, ethnography, and multi-side case study. Every student must choose one of them and not allowed to change the topic or title. Then, they have to develop the theme and topic to a case study frame work which consists of theme of case study, identification of the problem, objectives, object of the research, technique of data collection, instrument of the research, and research procedure. Every part has scoring and qualification criteria. In the end of every work, all scorings are collected of which maximum score is 100. Overall, sixth semester students’ ability to develop case study research plan of English department of STKIP PGRI Pacitan in the academic year 2014-2105 is average.Key words: developing, case study, research, plan, sixth grade, English department, STKIP PGRI Pacitan 2014 -2015

This research was conducted by applying a modification of one shot case study of experiment. The subject is 20 students. They are sample taken by purposive sampling technique. It takes data from 20 student’s writing masterpiece of scientific papers. It is the final task of scientific writing subject of 6th semester of English education department of STKIP PGRI Pacitan in the academic year 2015-2016. One important notice is that the data analysis is only the background of the study of the writing, so it is not the entire writing masterpiece. The researcher is the subject’s lecturer. The treatment is the classroom teaching learning process. The main analysis reflects that every student has different character of writing. Writing scientific paper reflects the writer’s personality, knowledge, skill, competency, and intention. Some conclusions from this research are: 1).Background of the study of a scientific paper follows only one certain genre, 2).The genre of a background of the study of a scientific paper cannot be determined which one is the best or a must because it is a writer’s or researcher’s authority to express his or her mind and facts, 3).It cannot be denied that the application of approbation maxim can help a writer to be close with readers, 4).Interpersonal meaning inside of a background of the study reflects some points include a researcher’s or writer’s ideas, opinions, experiences, future view points, and linguistic competency.

Abstract

Research problem is one of the most important parts in a research. It is placed in the beginning of research writing especially after background and identification of problem. Research problem determines researchers’ action, theories, and technique of collecting and analyzing data, findings, analysis, conclusion, and overall research implementation. It seems the central point of a scientific research. Based on our research, we find that there 2 criteria of research problems; first, it is discovered and second, it is invented or created. Every research topic and research design has specific research problem. On the other hand, we also find 2 types of research problem technically which are finding research problem and analysis research problem. Our concern in this scientific article is to present one of our research finding and analysis which is 7 effective steps of constructing research problems. Every step is connected to one another till the last step of identifying or constructing research problems. Our main discussion is that research problem is the last product from previous problem delivered in the research topic, background of the study, identification of the problems, and the influence of research design. In conducting the research, we take 40 S-1English thesis of English education study program of STKIP PGRI Pacitan in the academic year 2014-2015 by using purposive sampling technique. We applied descriptive qualitative approach based on coherence analysis. We expect the presentation of our research findings and analysis could be used as one reference for researchers to identify and construct research problems.
