Introduction: Braces often used in the treatment of malocclusion. However, in recent years malocclusion no longer becomes the reason for orthodontic treatment. Many people use it merely for a lifestyle purpose, and most of them got it from the dental quack. This study was aimed to understand the influencing factors of the citizen of Bandung preferences towards dental quack on constructing custom-made orthodontic appliances. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study with purposive sampling technique consisted of 30 samples. The inclusion criteria were subject wearing dental quack custom-made orthodontic appliance; citizen of Bandung; and willing to participate in the study. Exclusion criteria were subject refused to participate in the study. Results: The study showed that most of the subject (73%) were using the treatment for the teeth alignment, and only a few were using for the lifestyle purpose only. From all subjects wearing orthodontic appliance, 63% of them were chosen dental quack custom-made orthodontic appliance due to the lower price, and 37% of the rest due to peerâs suggestion who had it before. The combination of the low income with the needs of orthodontic treatment and inadequate information regarding orthodontic appliance such as dental braces affected the subjects preferences towards the dental quack custom-made orthodontic appliance. Overall, the socioeconomic environment is the most influencing factor of preference. Conclusion: A lower price was the most influencing factor of high preferences for the dental quack custom-made orthodontic appliance.

While a systematic reviews of remedial interventions for medical students have been published, no such review exists for dental students. This scoping review aimed to identify the reasons, methods, and impact of remediation in dental education. Following the Arksey OMalley framework for scoping reviews, a literature search was conducted using keywords including remedial, remediation, and dental students across Google Scholar and PubMed. English-language studies published until January 2025, focusing on dental students and dental hygiene students, were included. Thematic analysis was performed on the selected articles, and from an initial yield of 1,790 articles, screening and full-text review identified 11 relevant studies. Remediation strategies varied widely, encompassing seminars and tutorials, problem-based learning, plenary discussions, lectures, web-based learning, summer courses, guided independent learning, self-reflection, individual consultations, and discrimination training. However, the available literature provides limited insight into the implementation of remedial programs in dental education. Key gaps include the comparative effectiveness of remediation methods, the influence of students factors on assessment outcomes, and remediations short- and long-term effects. Further research is needed to establish evidence-based guidelines for optimizing remediation strategies in dental education

Introduction: Deep bite is a malocclusion in which the vertical overlap of the mandibular incisor exceeds 4 mm when the teeth are positioned in centric occlusion. Traumatic deep bite, a condition in which deep bite has caused traumatic occlusion, can exert pressure that increases inflammation and damage to the periodontal tissue. The prolonged pressure produces injury to the gingival surface and periodontal tissues of the opposing teeth. Objective: To determine the effect of deep bite on the periodontal status of anterior teeth. Methods: A cross-sectional analytic study of 44 subjects who were divided into two groups of 22. Subjects gave informed consent and underwent an examination of periodontal status for gingival recession, probing depth, and clinical attachment loss. Dental impressions were taken for the measurement of deep bite. Data were then analyzed using univariate and multivariate analysis. Result: There were significant differences between the normal and deep bite group for the presence and severity of gingival recession, probing depth, and clinical attachment loss (p <0.05). Conclusion: There is an association between deep bite and periodontal status (gingival recession, probing depth, and clinical attachment loss) of anterior teeth.
