Abstract

News texts have an important role in life. Each sentence in the news text contains one or more information depending on the type of sentence used. The length of sentences in a news text makes it difficult for readers to digest the information presented. For this reason, this research is more focused on analyzing the phrases and sentences contained in news text excerpts. The goal is to make it easier for readers to understand the information in a sentence. Theoretically, this research is useful for adding insight into several types of phrases and sentences in Indonesian. The practical benefits obtained are in the form of ease in determining the core information of a phrase or sentence in a news text. This research is descriptive qualitative research that uses a pragmatic approach. The theoretical approach used in this research is the syntactic approach. The data used is in the form of news text excerpts from class VII Indonesian books which are suspected of having endocentric and exocentric phrases as well as single sentences and compound sentences. Retrieval of research data using literature study techniques, namely observing and noting. The data was then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman technique combined with the distribution method in sorting the data. The results of this study are presented informally. From the research results of five news texts in class VII Indonesian books, 50 data were found which included 7 coordinating endocentric phrases, 10 attributive endocentric phrases, 4 appositive endocentric phrases, 9 directive exocentric phrases, 2 non-directive exocentric phrases, and 8 single sentences and 10 sentences compound.

Abstract

Formative assessment plays a crucial role in supporting the learning process, particularly in developing higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). However, the creation of multiple-choice items used in schools is still dominated by lower cognitive levels and does not yet fully support deep learning-based instruction. This situation indicates a gap between curriculum requirements and assessment practices in the field. This study aims to analyze the pedagogical quality of multiple-choice items in supporting formative assessment and to reconstruct the items so that they align with HOTS requirements and deep learning-based instruction. This study employs a qualitative approach of a descriptive nature using document analysis techniques. The research data consists of 10 multiple-choice items found in the Indonesian language teaching module on popular scientific articles at SMP Negeri 10 Semarang for the 2025/2026 academic year. The analysis was conducted based on several aspects, namely the cognitive levels of Bloom’s revised taxonomy, the function of formative assessment, the quality of item construction, and alignment with deep learning principles. The conclusion of this study indicates that multiple-choice items can be developed into more meaningful formative assessment instruments if designed based on HOTS and deep learning, thereby fostering deep understanding and developing students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study analyzes the use of Game-Based Learning (GBL) supported by Bamboozle in Indonesian language instruction to develop high school students’ critical thinking skills. The method employed was a literature review using a descriptive qualitative approach to 15 relevant scientific articles. Data analysis was conducted through content analysis to identify patterns and trends in the research findings. The results indicate that the use of Bamboozle within the GBL framework can encourage active student engagement through interactive and collaborative learning activities. This engagement contributes to the development of critical thinking skills, particularly in the aspects of evaluation and argument construction. Furthermore, the integration of Bamboozle with collaborative learning models strengthens the process of discussion and the exchange of ideas, which supports the formation of students’ critical thinking. Thus, the use of Bamboozle in Indonesian language learning has the potential to serve as a learning strategy that supports the development of students’ critical thinking skills. ABSTRAK Kajian ini menganalisis penggunaan Game-Based Learning (GBL) berbantuan Bamboozle dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kritis murid SMA. Metode yang digunakan adalah kajian Pustaka dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif terhadap 15 artikel ilmiah yang relevan. Teknik analisis data dilakukan melalui analisis isi untuk mengidentifikasi pola dan kecenderungan temuan penelitian. Hasil kajian menunukkan bahwa pemanfaatan Bamboozle dalam kerangka GBL mampu mendorong keterlibatan aktif murid melalui aktivitas pembelajaran yang interaktif dan kolaboratif. Keterlibatan tersebut berkontribusi terhadap pengembangan kemampuan berpikir kritis, khususnya dalam aspek evaluas dan penyusunan argument. Selain itu, integrasi Bamboozle dengan model pembelajaran kolaboratif memperkuat proses diskusi dan pertukaran ide yang mendukung pembentukan pemikiran kritis murid. Dengan demikian, penggunaan Bamboozle dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia memiliki potensi sebagai strategi pembelajaran yang mendukung pengembangan kemampuan berpikir kritis murid.
