Abstract

This study aims to determine how financial literacy, a lifestyle characterized by excessive spending, and the fear of missing out (FOMO) influence the use of Shopee PayLater among students at Universitas Negeri Padang. A quantitative survey-based approach was employed. The study population consisted of Universitas Negeri Padang students who use the Shopee PayLater service, with a sample of 100 respondents selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS software (version 32). Prior to hypothesis testing, the research instruments underwent validity and reliability checks. Additionally, to assess the model's suitability, classical assumption tests—including normality, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity tests—were conducted. The results indicate that financial literacy has a significant positive effect on Shopee PayLater usage. A lifestyle involving excessive purchasing also has a significant positive impact on the use of the service. Similarly, FOMO exerts a significant positive influence on Shopee PayLater usage. Collectively, financial literacy, extravagant spending habits, and the fear of missing out significantly influence how Universitas Negeri Padang students use Shopee PayLater.
