Abstract

The alarming rise in uncollected waste volume in Jakarta, Indonesia necessitates an innovative, community-centered approach to waste reduction. This report details the socialization and training program initiated in the Cilandak region, South Jakarta, focusing on waste prevention at the source through a partnership with the startup company Alner. The program encourages the use of reusable packaging for everyday products and promotes composting organic waste. Lectures and practical demonstrations were employed to educate residents about the waste management hierarchy of reduction, reuse, and recycling. Over 50 participants adopted reusable Alner-packaged products, and several engaged in on-site composting. The initiative was successful in fostering a better understanding of proactive waste management strategies and the financial benefits of a circular economy. Given the positive feedback, the program may be considered for replication across other Jakarta regions to amplify its impact on waste reduction.

Abstract

The high potential for carbon content in mangrove tree species proves that the ecological benefits of the mangrove ecosystem have a positive impact on efforts to mitigate climate change and global warming. The aim of this service is to increase public understanding of the importance of mangrove planting in supporting blue carbon-based development in Sorong City. Involvement in this activity includes community, local, student, and academic participation. The method used is descriptive-qualitative in the form of socialization and mangrove planting actions. The result of this service is that it can provide an understanding that the existence of the mangrove ecosystem in the coastal area of Klawulu Village has an important role in providing protection to this area. This function also contributes as a mitigation measure against the risk of flooding and global warming. Apart from that, during community service activities, there was a change in understanding about mangroves, which then created a positive response from the community to participate in maintaining and protecting the mangrove ecosystem to prevent climate change.

Abstract

The development of the National Capital City (IKN) is expected to have a huge impact on East Kalimantan Province in terms of development and economic activity as well as population growth. Bontang City is one of the IKN Supporting Cities which is expected to become a new economic growth area. Currently, Bontang City has a population of 186,137 people recorded through the e-INFODUK service in East Kalimantan Province, population growth will increase with the presence of IKN which will move completely in 2030. Using the exponential projection method, it is estimated that the population of Bontang City is 192,579 people. with a clean water requirement of 267 l/sec, and the availability of clean water for Bontang City in 2030 of 316.56 l/sec. Thus the availability of clean water in Bontang City needs to be a concern in increasing the capacity of clean water

Abstract

Integrasi model 'Return from Home,' 'Return on the Go,' dan 'Refill on the Go'oleh Alner menerapkan paradigma penggunaan kembali sambil menekankan perlunya sanitasi yang ketat untuk menjamin keamanan konsumen, sesuai dengan pedoman regulasi seperti BPOM Nomor 12 tahun 2019 di Indonesia.

Abstract

Setelah adanya pendampingan, pengetahuan warga mengalami peningkatan sebesar 20 %.

Abstract

The widespread use of single-use plastic packaging has become a significant environmental issue, particularly in the Global South. This study examines the innovative approach of the startup Alner, which employs a combination of electrochemical treatment and Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology in its wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to manage wastewater generated from the cleaning of reusable packaging. Wastewater samples were collected before and after treatment, and analyzed for key parameters such as Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD5), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), oil and grease, ammonia, surfactants, and phosphates. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in all measured pollutants, with COD reduced by 99.58% and BOD5 by 99.56%. Post-treatment values for all parameters were well within the regulatory limits set by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P68/MenLHK/Setjen/Kum.1/8/2016. This study underscores the potential of reuse models in reducing single-use plastic waste and highlights the importance of effective wastewater treatment in maintaining environmental sustainability. Alner's approach provides a scalable and environmentally friendly solution, setting a benchmark for similar initiatives in the industry, and supports the feasibility and sustainability of integrating advanced wastewater treatment technologies in the reusable packaging sector, offering a comprehensive solution to plastic pollution.
