Abstract

The coastal areas of Sorong City face many risks, including tidal flooding and erosion. The solution to the problem of facing this challenge is to restore and protect the mangrove ecosystem. The aim of this service is to increase public understanding of the importance of planting mangroves as part of disaster mitigation efforts in the coastal areas of Sorong City. Involvement in this activity includes community participation, traditional leaders, local government, students, and academics. The method used is descriptive-qualitative. The result of this service is that the efforts carried out include providing information to the residents of Klawalu Village about the importance of mangroves in marine ecosystems, steps to prevent abrasion, and supporting the planting of mangroves along the coastline. Positive responses were obtained from residents who enthusiastically planted mangroves and hoped that through this activity, the risk of abrasion could be minimized and degradation in coastal areas, where the community lived, could be reduced.

Abstract

The high potential for carbon content in mangrove tree species proves that the ecological benefits of the mangrove ecosystem have a positive impact on efforts to mitigate climate change and global warming. The aim of this service is to increase public understanding of the importance of mangrove planting in supporting blue carbon-based development in Sorong City. Involvement in this activity includes community, local, student, and academic participation. The method used is descriptive-qualitative in the form of socialization and mangrove planting actions. The result of this service is that it can provide an understanding that the existence of the mangrove ecosystem in the coastal area of Klawulu Village has an important role in providing protection to this area. This function also contributes as a mitigation measure against the risk of flooding and global warming. Apart from that, during community service activities, there was a change in understanding about mangroves, which then created a positive response from the community to participate in maintaining and protecting the mangrove ecosystem to prevent climate change.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)  in the revision of the Sorong Regency Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) for 2012-2032. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method to achieve two objectives: (a) Provide a comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon being studied, and (b) be sensitive in collecting descriptive qualitative information while maintaining the unity of the research object, which means the data in the case study is studied thoroughly. The results of the research show that (a) In the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) in the 2012-2032 Revision of the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) of Sorong Regency, it was identified that there were 8 KRP Spatial Structure Plans and 6 Spatial Patterns that had the potential to influence environmental conditions, based on analysis of the impact of sustainable development issues on spatial planning policies; (b) The results of the analysis regarding the influence of sustainable development issues on policies, plans and programs show that of the 9 KRPs analyzed, only 3 items require a study of SEA content, while the other 6 items do not require a study of SEA content. In addition, of the 6 Spatial Patterns in the KRP, all require a study of SEA content; and (c) The purpose of the alternative formulation is to agree on improvements to the KRP based on the results of the alternative formulation, supporting follow-up steps will be formulated as a result of the implementation of the KRP.

Abstract

Tanjung Kasuari Beach is one of the famous beach attractions in Sorong City, Papua Barat Daya, and has an unspoiled natural atmosphere. Plastic waste management in the Tanjung Kasuari beach area aims to increase public awareness regarding the negative impact of plastic waste on the environment and the importance of keeping beaches clean. Plastic waste management is a priority program based on the condition of the most abundant and frequently encountered piles of plastic waste. Therefore, local people and tourists will better understand the negative impact of plastic waste on the environment. It can also encourage reducing the amount of plastic waste thrown away carelessly, thereby reducing pollution in coastal areas. In this way, the beach will become more beautiful for tourists, positively impacting the local tourism sector.

Abstract

Organic waste is the most common in the Muhammadiyah University of Sorong's (UNAMIN) environment. The presence of organic waste can cause unpleasant odors, reduce the aesthetic value of the campus environment, and cause disease. Eco enzyme is a waste fermentation process in the form of fruit peels and vegetable remains. Eco-enzymes are widely used in household, agricultural, and fishing activities. One alternative to reducing organic waste in the UNAMIN campus environment is introducing and making Eco-enzymes from fruit waste. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of the UNAMIN campus community, especially in the environmental engineering study program regarding making Eco enzymes from orange peel. This activity is specifically for environmental engineering students, hoping that ecological engineering study program students will provide an example for other study programs within the Mumahhadiyah University of Sorong. Until now, we have not handled wet organic waste in the campus environment. Eco enzyme can be an alternative use of wet (organic) waste that is environmentally friendly and easy for the campus community to use. The results of this Eco enzyme can be used as liquid fertilizer for gardens on the UNAMIN campus. The organic waste processed into enzymes is obtained from the campus canteen. Apart from being used as liquid fertilizer, this Eco enzyme is also used to clean fish ponds at the fisheries faculty.

Abstract

Background: National stunting prevalence fell by 3.3% from 27.7% in 2019 to 24.4% in 2021. However, the reduction in stunting in the Papua and West Papua regions increased from 2019 to 2021 by 29.4%. Based on the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), the city of Sorong experienced an increase of 27.2% from 2021-2022. Purpose: To know of the influence of knowledge, attitudes and environmental sanitation on the incidence of stunting. Method: Quantitative design research, the sample was randomly selected from the local community as many as 85 respondents. The variables in this research are knowledge, attitudes and environmental sanitation. Bivariate analysis uses the chi-square test to see the influence and relationship between knowledge, attitudes and environmental sanitation. Results: A p-value of 0.005 indicates a relationship between attitudes towards stunting and environmental sanitation. The p-value of 0.190 shows that there is no dominant relationship between knowledge of stunting and environmental sanitation. Furthermore, the p-value of 0.027 shows that there is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes towards stunting. Conclusion: Knowledge and attitudes have a dominant influence on the incidence of stunting compared to environmental sanitation.   Keywords: Attitude; Knowledge; Sanitation; Stunting.   Pendahuluan: Prevalensi stunting secara nasional turun sebanyak 3.3% dari 27.7% tahun 2019 menjadi 24.4%  pada tahun 2021. Abstract

This community service activity was conducted in Kampung Arar, Sorong Regency, West Papua, which has abundant potential for rebon shrimp (kasia shrimp). Rebon shrimp are rich in protein, calcium, phosphorus, and iron; however, the washing waste from these shrimp has not yet been utilized by the local community. This activity aimed to provide training to the Kampung Arar community on utilizing rebon shrimp waste to produce liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) using the bioactivator Effective Microorganism (EM4). The methods included socialization, training, and assistance in the LOF fermentation process and its application to plants. The results showed an increase in the community's understanding, particularly among women in the PKK group, regarding the benefits of rebon shrimp waste, with a 70% knowledge improvement after the training. Moreover, the community was able to produce LOF independently and apply it to plants such as water spinach, which exhibited better growth. This activity is expected to contribute to waste management and improve community welfare through sustainable agricultural practices
