Utilizing applications such as ELSA Speak and Google Speech-to-Text, the research implemented a classroom-based intervention involving 30 senior high school students over eight weeks. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining pre- and post-tests, classroom observations, and interviews with both students and teachers. The results revealed significant improvements in students’ fluency, pronunciation accuracy, and speaking confidence. Additionally, the AI tools fostered greater learner autonomy, increased motivation, and encouraged active classroom participation. Despite certain challenges related to infrastructure and digital accessibility, the overall findings suggest that AI technologies can effectively support and enrich speaking instruction in EFL settings, particularly in rural or under-resourced contexts. Abstract

This study investigates the linguistic and sociolinguistic characteristics of hate speech on TikTok, focusing on how language is used to target and marginalize specific social groups. Drawing on a dataset of user comments, the analysis identifies recurring linguistic strategies such as dehumanization, stereotyping, imperative speech acts, and threats of violence. These expressions are not isolated utterances but socially constructed acts of symbolic violence, reflecting broader ideologies of power, exclusion, and prejudice. Using the frameworks of van Dijk’s ideological discourse analysis and Bourdieu’s theory of symbolic violence, the study reveals how hate speech functions to reinforce social hierarchies in digital spaces. From a forensic linguistic perspective, the study also highlights the evidentiary potential of online comments for identifying speaker intent and legal violations. Furthermore, the platform’s design—marked by anonymity and algorithmic virality—facilitates the rapid spread of harmful language. The findings underscore the urgent need for ethical digital governance and critical media literacy to counter the normalization of hate speech online.

Abstract

This study explores the role of deep learning technologies in enhancing English language acquisition, focusing on how artificial intelligence-powered tools impact learners' development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis across three educational settings where deep learning applications—such as speech recognition, automated writing feedback, and AI-driven chatbots—were actively used. The findings reveal that deep learning supports more personalized, adaptive, and autonomous learning experiences, with notable improvements in pronunciation, writing accuracy, vocabulary retention, and learner motivation. However, challenges such as technological limitations, unequal access, and insufficient teacher training were also identified. The study concludes that deep learning technologies hold significant potential as complementary tools in English language education, provided they are thoughtfully integrated into pedagogical frameworks. Implications for educators, policymakers, and future research are discussed.

Abstract

This community service initiative aimed to enhance the English speaking proficiency of youth in Sei Tualang, Labuhanbatu Utara, through the implementation of interactive learning methods. The background of this program lies in the limited exposure and opportunities for rural youth to practice English communicatively, resulting in low confidence, limited vocabulary, and anxiety in speaking. To address this gap, the program designed a four-week interactive learning workshop that utilized student-centered methods such as role-playing, vocabulary games, storytelling, peer discussions, and real-life conversation simulations. The implementation involved both instructional delivery and motivational strategies to create a non-threatening, supportive learning atmosphere. The participants, aged between 13 and 18 years, were actively involved in communicative tasks that gradually increased in complexity. Pre- and post-activity observations and facilitator journals indicated a noticeable improvement in fluency, vocabulary range, pronunciation accuracy, and confidence. Participants demonstrated a higher willingness to communicate in English and showed a growing ability to sustain short conversations on familiar topics. Beyond linguistic outcomes, the program also fostered teamwork, critical thinking, and self-expression among the learners. Despite challenges such as limited access to technological tools and English materials, the creative adaptation of activities to suit the local context ensured the success of the program. This community engagement highlights that interactive and contextualized learning methods can serve as an effective approach to address the language learning needs of youth in under-resourced areas.
