Abstract

This study aims to describe the influence of the parish spiritual life toward students' interest in studying the Bible. This study used a quantitative approach. The research sample consisted of 332 high school students, both private and public, in the city of Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, which were taken using a proportional random technique. The data collection instrument used a closed questionnaire. The data analysis technique used Pearson Product Moment Correlation with SPSS version 23.0. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a correlation between parish spiritual life and an interest in studying the scriptures (r = 0.605). As a result, the parish spiritual life contributes 36.4% to the interest in studying the scriptures. Since the regression of biblical interest in parish spiritual life is linear, this relationship is predictable. So, more involvement in spiritual life in the parish means that students will be more interested in studying the scriptures if they spend more time there.

Abstract

We have been recently celebrating the Christmas. The Christmas among chirstians is aways regarded as the memorial celebration of the birth of Jesus, the Messiah, as the fulfillment of the prophesy of prophets in the past. The most interesting symbols found during this moment are the cave and the shepherds. Jesus, the Messiah, has chosen the cave, the most simple place as the “locus” of His birth. This choice is really an ironic panorama. The Most High, the King of the kings has made the cave and the stable to be the “locus of revelation”, the place where the High Being reveals Himself to the world. From the beginning, the Savior introduces Himself as the Most Poor among poors. Using this image, God is going to show clearly His choice and fundamental option to human being. There’s no highway to be Savior, except to follow the stoney way on the country-side. The simple narative story of Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem remind all chirstians about the value of poverty and simplicity of our human being. We are called back to our humanity, to our own Beth-lehem, our natural roots, to be aware of our own strenghts and weaknesses as the starting-point of our journey proceeding to the fullness of our dignity and our salvation. The Christmas is not only an annual liturgical celebration but also a symbolic action, inviting us back home, making us aware of our existence as human being. Christ has chosen the poverty as the “hodos”, the best way leading all human being to the fullness of salvation.

Abstract

This paper specifically speaks of the philosophy that lives in the kampong of Kelorema-Lamaholot and its didactic and contextual message for the living society today. With this theme, the author actually wants to invite people to love the depths of their own traditions since the movement to return to the root (back to basic) become a strategic breakthrough to counteract the negative impacts of modern progress. “Back to basic ” movement is not a step backward, but a powerful strategy for self-building and stewardship on the basis of local virtues to confront the negative effects of modern progress. A small study of the philosophy of Keloreama village is not merely a string of empty words, but it is a precious pearl that has a million worth of meaningful values of life. Effort to deepen the slogan of the village can be an entrance to uncover various values in local tradition and make it a solid pedestal for life in modern times.

Abstract

Rabbi among the Jews was the very important group. They had the most strategic and central roles among the Jewish community, not only in the religious field, but also in differents fields of life. Shmuel Kogan, a Jewsih Scholar, responding the question about the Rabbi, testified clearly that “rabbi was the servant of community ”. The Rabbis in the past offered their whole life to teach the Torah, the most fundamental law among the Jews. Based on the Torah, all the Jews in the past were able to struggle in responding different challanges and difficulties. Based on this experience, we could say that the Bible, the word of God written by human being and inspired by the High Being can be used as the inspiration to build a sustainable community. Reflecting on our millennial communities, especially among the Christian youth, we find out that most of our chiristians millennial youth are less interested to the religion. The word of God, written in the Bible is only a kind of strange stories that has no relationship to their millennial experiences and needs. Facing a such challenging condition, the experience of the rabbis in the past could be a good model and example for the teachers who are responsible to teach the Religion and the Bible to the millennial christen student. Using the experiences of the Rabbis among the Jews in the past, the teachers of religion can develop a best way of teaching religion for the millenials christian.

Abstract

Leadership is always understood as human capability to influence a person or groups to get certain goals. Stoner defines leadership as a process of directing or influencing groups or organizations to realize visions or goals. Being conscious of this importance of leadership, Ruteng Diocese, in the process of implementing the fifth year of the Third Sinode of Ruteng Diocese, invites all the chirstians, the leaders and congregations to reflect the theme of leadership of shepherds. All leaders in different levels, religious or layman, are invited and motivated to implement the leadership of the shepherd. For religious leaders, the theme chosen indicates not only a reality of misleading leadership in religious life but also guiding and motivating the implementation of the leadership in the spirit of Jesus, the Lord in the religious communities life.

Abstract

The identity of the church is nothing else that a proclaimer or a person in dialogue, a friend of all. Dialogue with poverty is for Jesus mutual communing with people who are poor and marginalized. The article shows us how the church seeks equal status with persons to whom she brings the proclamation. The approach is never done from the post of superiority. The church should pass the first step that is humility in proclaiming the good news.People listen to the men who is mercifull not to the intricacies of the doctrinal teaching, the crowd watcher for the compassionate person, the one who knows pity and sympathy. Life of compassion is an important ministry in the church.Compassin should become part of life for the church and compassion transcends barriers of any kind.

Abstract

One in every fifty human beings has crossed borders as migrants. All indications are that the numbers of migrants and other uprooted peoples will continue to increase. Most migration today takes plece as a result of compelling circumstances. As is now widely recognized, the rising hostility towards mnigrants workers and other foreigners in so many societies, obviously exacerbated by the traumas ofrecession and unemployments, appears to be an ominous and malignat cancer spreading accorss aour societies. Therefore, authentic Christian faith must be lived in a world in which millions people have no home and are making demands on the countries to which they immigrate or are deported. What is the Church's attitude towards these people? How should people of the Church respond to the urgent needs of these human beings? Fr.Joe Masan Toron is empowering us to have the biblical perspectives to cope with migration and migrants workers in our society.
