Abstract

In recent decades, the development of multicultural competence, or synonymously called intercultural competence (IC), has been developed as a theoretical context in education areas. Teachers’ inner reflection can do more in specific aspect of learning quality by understanding students’ cultural differences through intercultural competence understanding. Adding self-reflection in the process of understanding interaction within different cultures and language will add more self-value in lessen the ethnocentricity. As teachers are having different culture experience, they would share to each other about the differences to another teacher, in which it allows the teachers to reflect from one another. This would subsequently, help teachers to run innerreflection to themselves, to dig more on their own values, that probably added after having cultural-changing experience Keywords: Intercultural competence, teacher, student diversity

Abstract

Indonesian Halal Tourism became a raising mode to attract Muslim Tourist by Ministry of Tourism Republic Indonesia. Indonesia, as a non-Muslim country by nation ideology, tries to highlight the spiritual spirit of Islam as a culture to attract more tourists and put it into physical practice by having more tourism hospitalities; such as Halal Hotel that has Halal certification, which provides less or even none of alcohol beverages and serves only food based on Halal dietary. Indonesia in developing tourism brand of “Indonesia The Halal Wonders” would possibly lead into positive and negative possibilities. This article used literature review to reach data about Halal tourism in Indonesia. It has a tendency for tourism halal markets to lose the customers that are not Muslim travellers.Keywords: Halal Tourism, Indonesia, Muslim, Tourist

Abstract

In Javanese tradition, during every encounter, the communicator had to be aware with the other people social standing to be able to choose the appropriate style of conversation based on the relationship. This article is trying to explore how the phenomenon of Javanese language shift happened in Indonesia as well as too see if social class would play important role in it. As social changes might probably bring differences to language use as it has direct influence from the social status coming from Weber’s social class theory. The conclusion of this article, author found a threat for krama as Indonesia’s language heritage that might vanish. In the context of family communication, future research might want to try to see if parental social class can help the generation to maintain a nation’s language heritage regardless of their social class stratification.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has made people rely on the presence of the internet to run their business. Businesses, schools, retail, religious gatherings, and other components are all required to use an internet platform in some way. People can meet face-to-face and the feature of the contact is reinforced by both verbal and non-verbal communication prior to the viral eruption, making conversation much easier. The goal of this study is to emphasize the importance of being present during the COVID-19 Pandemic as well as the future projection of presence post-pandemic. Being present, as before the pandemic, comes effortlessly without conscious reflection because the interaction takes place offline without any restrictions. The result from this research that being present is the most crucial communication skill; it is the foundation of communication and can aid in more effective engagement on all levels (perception, comprehension, reasoning, memory, and production).

Abstract

Using Conversation Analysis, this paper explores the interaction between a mother and their children while giving morality messages. Conversation Analysis breaks down every interaction between a mother and their children to understand the success of interaction for a mother in delivering moral lessons to her children. By using a natural-setting audio recording and exporting the conversation through excerpts of conversations, this paper reveals three interesting findings from their interaction and turn-taking through varieties of turn-design sequences. The findings of this research show there are three ways of interaction used by mothers: 1) future forecasting, 2) authority-evoking, and 3) self-disclosing.

Abstract

Study shows the meaning of laughter can be varied. This article is discussing about the meaning of laughter between a mother and her daughter in the context of health communication, especially within an end-stage disease namely Cystic Fibrosis. This article is using a Conversation Analysis as a method to analyse a series of interaction and divided into several parts of conversation excerpts. The previous studies have also consistently demonstrated that laughter has positive effects on human interaction and social behaviour, including increased social connection, improved mood, and enhanced coping, especially within a ‘crisis moment’ such as coping with an end-stage diseases. This study breaks down the interaction that shows how frustrating life events can be a laugh-worthy memories.

Abstract

AbstractThe era of new media has revolutionized the way we communicate and access information through digital technology. Social media platforms like YouTube play a key role in digital culture by providing easy access for users to share videos. One type of content that has grown on YouTube is the web series, which is similar to TV shows but shorter in duration and divided into several episodes. Web series are now widely used as a communication strategy by many companies, including in Indonesia, which has great potential for development due to the high interest in YouTube. This study analyzes the representation of the value of integrity in the YouTube web series "Nurut Apa Kata Mama," produced by BCA, using John Fiske's semiotic approach. The web series is designed as both an educational tool and a branding strategy, showcasing corporate values such as integrity, teamwork, and customer focus. Through three levels of analysis—reality, representation, and ideology—this study finds that integrity is represented through several characters who demonstrate consistency between words and actions, honesty, and responsibility. This web series strengthens BCA’s corporate branding by presenting the company's identity as an entity that prioritizes integrity in all aspects.Keywords: Representation, Semiotics, Integrity, Corporate branding          Abstraksi Era new media telah merevolusi cara berkomunikasi dan mengakses informasi melalui teknologi digital. Platform media sosial seperti YouTube memainkan peran penting dalam budaya digital dengan menyediakan akses mudah bagi pengguna untuk berbagi video. Salah satu konten yang berkembang di YouTube adalah web series, yang mirip dengan acara TV namun berdurasi lebih pendek dan terbagi dalam beberapa episode. Web series kini banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai sarana strategi komunikasi oleh banyak perusahaan, termasuk di Indonesia yang memiliki potensi besar untuk pengembangannya berkat tingginya minat terhadap YouTube. Penelitian ini menganalisis representasi nilai integritas dalam web series YouTube "Nurut Apa Kata Mama" yang diproduksi oleh BCA, menggunakan pendekatan semiotika John Fiske. Web series ini dirancang sebagai sarana edukasi sekaligus branding, menampilkan nilai-nilai perusahaan seperti integritas, kerjasama tim, dan fokus pada nasabah. Melalui tiga level analisis semiotika John Fiske menghasilkan hasil penelitian bahwa nilai integritas direpresentasikan melalui beberapa karakter tokoh cerita yang menunjukkan kesatuan ucapan dan tindakan, kejujuran, serta tanggung jawab serta pembawaan alur cerita yang membangun hubungan emosional dengan penonton yang mana BCA mengansumsikan brand sebagai manusia yang diringkas dalam web series ini sebagai bentuk memperkuat corporate branding BCA. Kata Kunci: Representasi, Semiotika, Integritas, Corporate branding
