Abstract

Healthy living training through gymnastics and improving dental and gum health for the elderly in Podomoro city is based on attention to the health and quality of life of the elderly. The dental and gum problems that the elderly suffer from include caries, swollen gums and bleed easily, mobile teeth, teeth lost due to extraction or fall out on their own. Missing teeth in the elderly can have a psychological impact on shame, lack of confidence, tension, loss of appetite, malnutrition, difficulty speaking, having no friends, impaired concentration, and unable to work completely. This Community Service (PkM) collaboration with elderly partners in the 14 Podomoro City area, with a total of 51 participants. This PkM is carried out offline in the form of blood pressure checks, elderly exercise, dental and gum health counseling, training on how to brush your teeth properly, and how to clean dentures properly. The success of the program was evaluated by comparing the pre and post-test scores of 51 participants, and the results showed an increase in the average score from 78.92 in the pre-test to 90.69 in the post-test. The evaluation results indicate that the program successfully increased the participants' knowledge, attitude and behavior towards healthy pattern, maintaining teeth and gum health, and it is expected that participants will disseminate this information to the wider community.

Abstract

The increasing number of elderly individuals in Indonesia, accompanied by rising health issues, particularly concerning oral health and its association with systemic conditions, is a notable concern. Community service activities in the form of education and training on oral health and its connection to systemic diseases among the elderly at Panti Werdha Wisma Mulia are expected to enhance awareness of the relationship between oral health and systemic conditions among the elderly and foster habits of maintaining oral health. There were 29 participants who were residents of Panti Werdha Wisma Mulia involved. Based on the pre-test and post-test results, there was an observable increase in knowledge among the participants regarding oral health, systemic diseases, and their interrelation. Furthermore, it is hoped that healthy lifestyle patterns, especially those related to oral health, will be established as they are closely linked to the systemic conditions of the participants.

Abstract

Introduction: The destruction that occurs in peri-implantitis, if left untreated, can eventually lead to dental implant failure. Autogenous growth factor is prepared by centrifugation of whole blood samples and has been widely applied in wound healing and tissue regeneration. This platelet concentrate can be used alone or in combination with other biomaterials for soft tissue healing or bone formation. CGF (concentrated growth factor) is a derivative of PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) and has the same 3-dimensional structural complex as PRF. However, it contains more growth factors than PRF and has a more rigid fibrinogen structure. Aims: The objective of this systematic review is to obtain scientific data related to the use of concentrated growth factors in peri-implantitis treatment in order to avoid dental implant failure. Method: A total of 5,339 studies were initially identified from the three databases (Wiley, Researchgate and Google Scholar) between January 2018 and July 2023. Result: Three randomised clinical trials (RCTs) were selected for analysis. Conclusion: Concentrated Growth Factor (CGF) can be employed in combination with bone graft material for the treatment of peri-implantitis, with the objective to prevent dental implant failure that may result from peri-implantitis. However, it is not the sole recommended approach.

Abstract

Background: Periodontitis is one of the most common chronic inflammatory diseases in the world, affecting oral health. Chronic periodontitis is considered a common complication of Diabetes Mellitus (DM), establishing a bidirectional relationship between periodontitis and DM. Resveratrol is a polyphenolic stilbene found in red wine, grape skins, mulberries, and peanuts. Resveratrol exhibits a variety of beneficial properties such as anti-carcinogenic, anti-platelet aggregation, anti-allergic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory agents. Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of resveratrol as an adjunct therapy for periodontitis in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Methods: This literature review utilizes an electronic database search method, specifically Google Scholar. The keywords used are “Resveratrol in periodontitis” and “Resveratrol for type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.”  The inclusion criteria consist of journals published between 2016 and 2024 with research designs being randomized clinical trials or clinical trials on humans. Results:  The results obtained from this literature review indicate that resveratrol is effective as an adjunct therapy for periodontitis in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus as it can reduce plaque index, bleeding index, gingival index, clinical attachment loss, probing depth, IL-1B, IL-6, and insulin resistance. Conclusion: The implementation of resveratrol as an adjunct therapy can improve periodontal and metabolic health in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus..

Abstract

Periodontal disease is a common dental health problem that can cause damage to the supporting tissues of the teeth. The classification of periodontal disease has continued to evolve, with the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) releasing a new classification system in 2018. This system introduces the concepts of staging and grading to assess the severity and risk of disease progression. The implementation of this classification varies across countries, depending on resource availability and healthcare facilities. In developed countries, the adoption of this classification is faster due to technological support and integration into educational curricula, while developing countries still face significant challenges.
