Abstract

In recent years, Indonesia has been striving to vertically integrate its nickel industry. The primary reasons for this are technological advancements, the global momentum towards sustainability, and abundant nickel mineral resources. With 52% of the world's nickel reserves, Indonesia has undertaken the downstream policy of its nickel industry. Various policies have been created and implemented, including laws, government regulations, and ministerial regulations, to guide the downstream process. However, the European Union's lawsuit against Indonesia at the WTO has posed a significant challenge to this process. After being found guilty, Indonesia has appealed the EU's lawsuit. This research aims to identify the current state of the downstream process and the underlying interests behind Indonesia's ongoing appeal. Using qualitative research methods and focusing on explaining the downstream of the national nickel industry, this study seeks to uncover and elucidate the main agenda behind the urgency of Indonesia's nickel industry downstream amid the WTO dispute and global momentum in electronic vehicle era.

Abstract

The climate change crisis triggered by the greenhouse gases emission because of the usage of coal have pushed for the establishment of UNFCCC dan the COP26 meeting, where Indonesia is actively participating. This research aims to analyze the implications of the COP26 results towards the environmental policy in Indonesia, along with the opportunities and challenges faced by the mining sector in implementing those policies. Using the neoliberal theory, qualitative approach, and case study method through secondary data analysis, this research produces two main findings. First, the COP26 results are integrated into Indonesia’s environmental policy through the roadmap towards net zero emission, constructed with the International Energy Agency (IEA). This roadmap includes the early retirement plan of coal power plants, the development of renewable energy, the super grid technology, CCS/CCUS, and the conversion of electronic vehicle. Second, even though there are some significant opportunities to achieve that commitment, Indonesia also faces huge challenges, including the coal dependency, regulation that is not optimal yet, and concerns towards improper fundings.

Abstract

Peace is both a need and a necessity for the Indonesian nation which has diversity. The difference that God has given to Indonesia is a gift that must be maintained and managed. Therefore, to avoid divisions and conflicts resulting from differences, it is only fitting that the Indonesian people are equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage this diversity. By focusing on the youth generation, as social agents in a peace society can be realized. Tunas Daud School, which was chosen to be a partner, houses students from various backgrounds and cultures. As a school built on Christian values in a province where the majority adheres to Balinese Hinduism, the potential for conflict within the individual and group spheres is high, both in teaching and learning settings and in non-formal settings. In the process, a series of participatory interactive training activities were implemented for junior and senior high school students at this school. The team provides an understanding of peace and conflict resolution through nine training modules with a constructivist approach packed with various methods adapted for students in the age range of 12 to 18 years. The application of this skills training yielded very good overall results with the initial objectives being achieved. It also appears that there is an influence shown through the results of the pre-test and post-test as well as the evaluation results of the facilitator and participants.

Abstract

The rapid global trade has made the role of economic diplomacy becoming more significant for Indonesia. However, as international cooperation strengthened and investment flows increased following the success of economic diplomacy, externality towards the environment also appeared. By using green political theory as a theoretical basis, this article reveals how Indonesia's economic diplomacy has overlooked environmental considerations and harmed the nature. This article uses an analytical framework highlighting commercial policy, assets as bargains, and laws governing business to examine the oil palm plantation case in Boven Digoel, Papua. Based on secondary data obtained from relevant literature and primary data collected through interviews, this research finds that the reliance of Indonesia's economic diplomacy on commercial paper UU PMA 1967 (the 1967 Foreign Investment Law), forest assets offered as bargaining chips, and laws governing business as stated in PP.33/Menhut/2010 has resulted on the state's neglect of nature protection. Keywords: Economic Diplomacy, Externalities, Green Political Theory, Natural Resources, Commercial Policy. Kata-kata Kunci: Diplomasi Ekonomi, Eksternalitas, Teori Politik Hijau, Sumber Daya Alam, Kebijakan Komersial.

Abstract

La Oroya Mining is an accurate example that environmental degradation and human rights violations can happen as a cause and effect. Mining in La Oroya Peru is very famous because it is one of Peru's largest sources of income and is its trademark. Meanwhile, this mining is also proof that Peru continues its imperialism. However, it cannot be denied that the effects of mining itself have had an impact on environmental degradation and human rights violations in local communities. This mining has caused worrying short-term and long-term impacts. In this paper, the authors and team try to analyze using qualitative methods through secondary data from journals. The aim is to find key factors that cause and impact this environmental degradation and human rights violation. The team authors also try to connect with three International Relations theories, which are realism, constructivism, and green political theory to look at it from three different points of view to find out the details. Further, the author also tries to trace what actions the Peruvian people have taken, the involvement of the IACHR in this problem as an international organization, the participation of NGOs, and how it continues. Furthermore, the role of the government will also be explored whether they help in solving this problem or make it worse and continue. Lastly, team authors try to propose effective solutions that can be implemented to help solve this environmental problem.

Abstract

Indonesia as a large and diverse nation requires peace. The diversity found within Indonesia must be continuously preserved and managed well to avoid conflict and division. Therefore, Indonesian society needs to be equipped with skills and awareness in managing diversity. A tangible action that can be taken is to implement this idea by organizing peace education and conflict resolution training across various sectors of society. As the primary target of this training, teenagers such as students from Satya Wacana Christian High School are the future leaders of the nation and play a significant role in the future, so they need to be equipped with knowledge and skills in peace and conflict management. Satya Wacana Christian High School is a Christian school located in a heterogeneous environment, which creates opportunities for conflict or friction due to the differences that always exist in society. This makes Satya Wacana Christian High School considered an appropriate partner in conducting peace education and conflict resolution training. The community service activities are carried out in the form of interactive and participatory training facilitated by lecturers and students using peace education modules based on Christian and Biblical values. The training aims to equip students with skills and insights into peace in order to live out their identity as agents of Christ's peace. Through the community service activities conducted by the PkM Youth & Peace Project team under the International Relations Study Program of FISIP UPH, it is hoped that students of Satya Wacana Christian High School will be able to actively participate, starting from themselves, in preventing potential conflicts in their immediate environment, for the sake of peace in Indonesia.
