Abstract

Emotional regulation is a child's ability to recognize, control, and express emotions appropriately. At an early age, children still need guidance from parents to help control emotions such as anger, sadness, disappointment, and excessive crying. This study aims to determine the role of parents in emotional regulation in a 6-year-old child in Liliba Village. This study used qualitative research with a case study method. The research informants consisted of two parents, namely the father and mother, and two immediate family members, namely the grandfather and grandmother of the 6-year-old child. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the data in this study was carried out using source triangulation and technical triangulation techniques. Source triangulation was conducted by comparing information obtained from the father, mother, grandfather, and grandmother as research informants. Meanwhile, technical triangulation was conducted by comparing the results of interviews, observations, and documentation. In addition, the researcher also conducted member checks by reconfirming the results interviews with informants so that the data obtained corresponds to actual conditions. The results of the study show that parents have four roles that are highlighted, namely (1). As guides, parents accompany children when they experience emotions and help calm them down, (2). As educators, parents teach children to recognize and control emotions well., (3). As motivators, parents provide support, encouragement, and praise to children when they are able to control their emotions., (4). As role models, parents also become role models through their patient attitude, gentle way of speaking, and the ability to control emotions in front of children. Through these findings, parents are invited to play an active role in regulating children's emotions from an early age.

Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the use of looseparts media in developing the critical thinking skills of children aged 5–6 years at GMIT Koinonia Christian Kindergarten, Kupang. The study was motivated by the fact that classroom learning remained predominantly teacher-centered, limiting children's opportunities to explore, express ideas, solve problems, and develop critical thinking independently. The objective of this research was to describe the implementation of loosepart media, identify the supporting and inhibiting factors, and examine the teacher’s role in facilitating learning activities that foster critical thinking. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of the principal, classroom teachers, and children. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, while data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the use of loosepart media provided children with opportunities to explore, classify objects, arrange patterns, compare, solve simple problems, and make decisions, thereby stimulating their critical thinking skills. The successful implementation was supported by teacher creativity, the availability of learning materials, and children's enthusiasm. However, challenges remained, including limited variation of loosepart materials and teachers' tendency to provide excessive guidance during learning activities. Therefore, loosepart media can serve as an effective child-centered learning alternative to promote critical thinking skills in early childhood.

Abstract

This study was done to look at how parents help their children with learning delays learn at home, specifically at TK Negeri Pembina Kupang. This study used a descriptive qualitative method and focused on a case study approach. The participants included the parents of two children who have learning delays as the main people providing information, and other family members served as additional informants. Data was gathered by watching, talking to people, and keeping records, then looked at carefully using methods like simplifying the information, showing it clearly, and coming up with final thoughts. The study found that parents have key roles as teachers, encouragers, helpers, guides, and examples in helping their children learn at home. Parents were there with their children during learning activities, gave them encouragement and praise, set up the learning environment, helped them when they had trouble understanding, and showed good behavior in everyday life. However, some challenges were found, like parents not having enough time, kids struggling to stay focused, and them getting bored quickly during learning tasks. So, it's important for parents and teachers to work together well to give better support for kids who have trouble learning. Keywords: parental role, home learning, learning delay, early childhood.
