Abstract

Everyone who is blessed with a long life will definitely experience old age. One of the problems that occurs in the elderly is dementia. Dementia is a disorder that occurs as a result of physiological changes in the form of cognitive decline. To overcome this, include brain exercises. Brain gym is a series of simple and fun movements that are used to improve learning abilities by using the whole brain. This research is quantitative research using a quasi-experimental method with a one group pretest - posttest approach. The population is 56 elderly people in the elderly school program in Sliyeg Village, Sliyeg District, Indramayu Regency. Samples were taken using accidental sampling. The research was carried out from April 3 – June 30 2023. Research results: the level of dementia before the Brain Gym Stimulation action was carried out was 19 people (73.1%) experiencing moderate levels and the level of dementia after the Brain Gym Stimulation action was carried out as many as 23 people (88.5%) were in the mild category and the results of the Paired Samples t Test The test shows that the average difference between the level of dementia before and after the brain gym stimulation was 2.615. This means that there was a decrease in the level of dementia after the intervention with an average decrease of 2.6 points. The result of calculating the "t" value is that a p-value is 0.000 < 0.005 (2-way test). This means that Ho is rejected and concludes that statistically there is a significant difference in the level of dementia in the elderly before and after brain gym stimulation in Sliyeg Village, Sliyeg District, Indramayu Regency. The conclusion is that there is a significant effect between the level of dementia in the elderly before and after Brain Gym Stimulation in Sliyeg Village, Sliyeg District, Indramayu Regency.

Abstract

Menstruation is a bleeding process that occurs periodically or cyclically from the endometrium. During menstruation, complaints and disorders often occur, especially in productive women, especially teenagers, who often experience menstrual pain or dysmenorrhea. One of the nursing actions to overcome this is kneading massage. The aim of the research was to determine the effectiveness of kneading massage in reducing dysmenorrhea pain in Stikes Aksari Indramayu students. This type of research is quantitative, using a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design approach. The characteristic of this type of research is that it reveals cause-and-effect relationships by involving a group of subjects. The subject group was observed before the intervention, then observed again after the intervention. The population in this study was all female students at the Aksari College of Health Sciences (STIKes), totaling 46 people in April 2024. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. The data collection technique uses primary data directly obtained from respondents, with a sample size of 28 people. Data analysis uses frequency distribution and paired samples test statistical tests. Results: most of the respondents, 17 people (60.7%), had menarche at the age of 11 years; all respondents, 28 people (100%), had high school education; most of the respondents, 12 people (42.9%), had a family history of experiencing pain during menstruation; and the majority of respondents, 19 people (67.9%), had experienced experiencing severe pain during dysmenorrhea. The results of calculating the "t" value obtained a p-value of 0.000 (2-way test). Conclusion: Ho is rejected, and statistically, there is a significant difference in dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents before and after intervention in the form of kneading massage therapy.

Abstract

Introduction: In the initial stages of labor, especially during the first stage's active phase, mothers experience severe pain, which can be a major hurdle. Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy on pain levels of mothers in active labor. Methods: This research employed a pre-experimental approach with a one-group pre-test post-test design. The sample consisted of 32 mothers in labor who were selected using purposive sampling and met the inclusion criteria. The primary method of data collection was a subjective pain measurement on a numeric scale. The analysis was done using the Wilcoxon test to assess the change of pain levels when lavender aromatherapy was administered. Results: Results: The results showed that after applying lavender aromatherapy, most respondents who initially felt moderate or severe pain were able to reduce the level of pain to mild pain. This change was statistically significant with a p value of 0.000 (p <0.05). Conclusions: This study proves that lavender aromatherapy is effective in managing labor pain in mothers in the active phase. Considering the findings of this study, lavender aromatherapy can be regarded as a simple and efficient non-drug method for managing labor pain.

Abstract

Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding remains a global health priority, yet its practice is often suboptimal, particularly in developing countries. Despite widespread awareness campaigns, many mothers discontinue exclusive breastfeeding before six months, leading to increased risks of infant morbidity and mortality. Maternity nurses play a vital role in bridging the gap by providing education, counseling, and support from the antenatal to the postpartum period. This study aimed to analyze the effect of breastfeeding counseling on exclusive breastfeeding practices among postpartum mothers. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a pre–post design was conducted in the working area of Jatisawit Community Health Center, Jatibarang District. A total of 70 postpartum mothers (35 in the intervention group and 35 in the control group) were recruited through purposive sampling. The intervention group received structured breastfeeding counseling, while the control group received routine maternal care. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and observation checklist, then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Ethical approval was obtained from the relevant ethics committee. Results: The findings revealed significant differences between the two groups. Mothers in the intervention group demonstrated higher adherence to exclusive breastfeeding practices compared to the control group. Counseling improved mothers’ knowledge, attitudes, and confidence, which translated into consistent exclusive breastfeeding behavior. Discussion and Suggestion: This study supports the evidence that breastfeeding counseling is an effective nursing intervention to promote exclusive breastfeeding. It highlights the essential role of maternity nurses as educators and supporters. Strengthening structured, continuous, and community-based counseling is recommended to improve breastfeeding practices. Future research should explore long-term outcomes and incorporate socio-cultural determinants to design more contextually relevant interventions.
