The independent variable is self-esteem, and the dependent variable is mental health. Data collection used a questionnaire, which involved filling out a Google form—analysis using Spearman-Rho with a confidence value (α) of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents had high self-esteem, namely 59.1%, and almost all had good mental health, namely 87.2%. The Spearman Rho test results showed a p-value = 0.000 (> α = 0.05), r = 0.424, meaning that there is a relationship between self-esteem and mental health of adolescents at Srengat junior high school with moderate strength. Abstract

Gout arthritis is a non-communicable disease commonly found in the elderly, characterized by joint pain due to monosodium urate crystal deposition. Its high prevalence in Indonesia is associated with a high-purine diet, low physical activity, and limited knowledge of disease management. Complementary therapy using boiled bay leaves offers a safe and affordable method to reduce uric acid levels. This case study was conducted on four families with elderly members aged 60–75 years suffering from gouty arthritis in the Sananwetan Community Health Center, Blitar City. Nursing care was provided through assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Interventions included health education on a low-purine diet and administration of 10–15 bay leaves boiled in 200–400 ml of water, consumed once daily for six days. Data collection was performed through interviews, observations, and physical examinations, including uric acid level monitoring. The main nursing diagnoses established were ineffective family health management, chronic pain, knowledge deficit, readiness to improve coping, readiness to enhance knowledge, and impaired family processes. Results showed a reduction in uric acid levels (average 6.2 mg/dl), decreased joint pain, and improved family knowledge and involvement in patient care. This study highlights the effectiveness of integrating family-based health education and complementary therapy using bay leaves in managing gouty arthritis. Family support proved to be an essential factor in successful disease control and quality of care for elderly patients.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, and uric acid are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia, especially among elderly populations in rural areas. Lack of knowledge, limited access to healthcare services, and poor early detection exacerbate this situation. This community service program aimed to implement the empowerment of the Yasinan Group (Qur’an Recitation Group) in controlling non-communicable diseases through nursing care based on complementary therapy. The program was carried out among a men’s Yasinan group in RT 01 RW 02, Tlogo Village, Kanigoro District, Blitar, involving 35 participants. The method consisted of assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Interventions included health education, free health check-ups, and acupressure therapy training. The interventions include health education, free health check-ups, and the promotion of acupressure techniques based on the standard operating procedure (SOP) for acupressure. These interventions were delivered over three meetings and involved measuring blood pressure, blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol, alongside acupressure therapy. Results showed a reduction in uric acid levels among participants with elevated levels by 1–1.2 mg/dL, The prevalence of hypertension decreased from 17 participants to 10, and blood sugar levels normalized in all participants. There was also an increase in participants’ knowledge and awareness of NCDs. Education-based interventions, routine health checks, and acupressure therapy were effective in reducing NCD risk and promoting healthy living behaviors. Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with increasing prevalence and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, especially in the elderly. Low knowledge, unhealthy lifestyles, and suboptimal stress management often lead to uncontrolled hypertension in the community. Housewives have the potential to be empowered as a socio-religious community in efforts to control hypertension. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and independence of subjects in controlling hypertension through health education and the application of complementary lavender aromatherapy therapy. The activity method uses a pretest–posttest design approach without a control group, with housewives as subjects who are members of the Surah Yasin reading group. The sample was taken by accidental sampling, with a total of 50 people. Respondents were given education about hypertension and trained to use lavender aromatherapy provided by the researcher, then their blood pressure was evaluated. The instruments used were questionnaires and sphygmomanometer aneroid. The results of the activity were analyzed descriptively, showing an increase in knowledge in the good category from 26% before the activity to 78% after the activity and a decrease in average systolic blood pressure of 9.36 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of 5.68 mmHg. This activity shows that a community-based approach through health education and lavender aromatherapy has the potential to support promotive and preventive efforts in controlling hypertension in the community. Keywords: hypertension
