Abstract

The poultry farm workers should aware to the risk of respiratory disorders. The illness perception represents belief about health condition of the body. The inhaled organic particles at poultry farm area could trigger chain of immunological reactions that begin from the release of neutrophil and lymphocyte up to fibrogenesis resulted in pulmonary dysfunction. The aim of this study was to identify the association between inflammatory response and lung function with illness perception of poultry farm workers. The study used observasional analytic methods with cross sectional design. One hundred and five poultry farm worker were taken as samples which obtained by purposive sampling methods. Illness Perception Questionnaire-Occupational Respiratory Disorder Risk (IPQ-ORDR) was used to measure the illness perception while the inflammatory response was measured by neutrophil levels. The lung function examination resulted in several lung function parameters (FEV1, FVC and FEV1 to FVC ratio). The results showed that there was no association between the inflammatory response and illness perception (p = 0.228) and the lung function was associated with illness perception (p = 0.001). The illness perception is not always match with the actual respiratory health conditions in poultry farm workers. It is needed to provide more information on the risk of respiratory disorders to the poultry farm workers.

Abstract

Malnourished toddler can be caused by inappropriate supplementary feeding, ignorance of the good way of feeding, and habits that are harmful to health. Malnourished toddlers will grow small, thin, and short which have an impact to their cognitive abilities, low intelligence, and the decrease of productivity. In order to overcome the malnourished on the group of toddler, Supplementary Food Feeding (PMT) is a way to solve the problem. The PMT biscuit programs tends to be unsuccessful because the toddler boredom to the biscuit approximately in a week. Therefore it is necessary to modify the biscuits into toddlers’ favorite food, so that it can improve the nutritional status of the toddlers. The assistance of malnourished toddler was done to 8 toddlers of Desa Pelem Kecamatan Pare Kabupaten Kediri. The determination of malnourished toddler status was done by doing 24-hour recall. From the recall results, it also obtained data of energy consumption level of toddlers. The making of supplementary food by PMT biscuit as the basis material was done by paying attention to the energy, protein, fat and carbohydrate content, which was given in 14 days. The evaluation of the assistance was done by comparing the weight of a toddler before and after the giving of PMT as well as changes in the level of energy consumption, protein, fat and carbohydrates. The results showed that 62.5% experienced an increase in body weight, 25% did not experience a change in body weight, and 12.5% experienced a decrease in body weight. Toddlers who experienced weight loss was occurred because at the time of the assistance, they suffered from dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). While toddlers who did not experience changes in body weight was occurred because of coughs and colds. The increase of weight that occurred in 62.5% of children under five was in the range of 0.1 kg to 0.5 kg, while the level of the consumption of energy, protein, fat and carbohydrates has also increased. Based on the results of the assistance, PMT is necessary to be continued. In order to be more successful in the assistance program, parents of the toddler need to be given additional knowledge of the menu variations

Abstract

Mastering many languages is a softskill that every nurse must acquire in order to make patients feel comfortable and decrease the anxiety.. English is one of many languages which is  widely used in the world. So, it is important to a nurse to be able to communicate using English. This research was intended to apply cooperative learning TPS (Team Pair Solo) as the technique to enhance students’ English-speaking skill when they took the “communicating class” in the fifth semester in Stikes Patria Husada Blitar. This research was a Classroom Action Research. The subject was 10 students of the fifth semester. The researcher used several instruments; such as observation checklist, field notes, test, and questionnaire. The findings showed that TPS were effective in improving the speaking skill of the student in class. This could be seen by the increase of students’ mean scores in the test results 65.1 in preliminary study became 81.3 in the first cycle and this also meant that 100% students could pass the minimum passing grade of 78 which was setted by the researcher as the criteria of success of the research itself. The improvement could also be seen on the results of the field notes that showed positivity, raise of motivation, and good responses from the students. It showed that by using cooperative learning (Team Pair Solo), students’ motivation and self-esteem increased since the TPS could accommodate students to be well prepared before they speak by discussing in team, pair with other student, and finally they have great self-esteem to stand by their self infront of the class. Other researchers were expected to elaborate this cooperative learning with other technique so that there would be alot of technique could be used as reference in teaching English

Abstract

Hydroponic orchid (Phalaenopsis) growing is a modern agricultural technique that is growing in popularity due to its ability to produce high quality orchid plants with efficient use of resources. Hydroponics is an agricultural method that does not use soil media, but rather nutrient solutions specially formulated to meet the nutritional needs of plants. In orchid cultivation, hydroponics offers several advantages, including more precise nutrient control, a more sterile growing environment, and a reduced risk of soil-borne pests and diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the hydroponic method in orchid cultivation, focusing on vegetative growth, flower quality and the efficiency of water and nutrient use. The results of the study showed that orchids grown hydroponically had faster growth and better flower quality compared to conventional methods. The average growth of orchid roots in the aquaponic system was 2mm per week and the growth of orchid roots without hydroponics was approximately 1.3mm per week.

Abstract

Bioethanol is a new and renewable energy source that can be produced from plants or crops containing sugars, starch, and lignocellulose. Sorghum stem contain a significant amount of sugar and lignocellulose. This study utilized sorghum stem in bioethanol production using Separated Hydrolysis and Fermentation (SHF) and Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) methods. These two processes are generally used in the prouction of bioethanol with raw materials containing lignocellulose. However, raw materials derived from sweet sorghum stems has not been widely used in the previous studies. This study aimed to determine the effect of fermentation using free cell and cell immobilization techniques on various pH, as well as to identify the most optimal fermentation method (SHF or SSF) for producing the highest ethanol content in sorghum stem fermentation.  The fermentation was conducted at pH levels of 3, 4, and 5. Sorghum stem were processed into powder and followed by delingnification process by 3% of NaOH solution to degrade the lignin content. The hydrolysis process of sorghum stem used cellulase enzymes as the biocatalyst. Fermentation was carried out using Saacharomyce in term of dry yeast for 72 h. The results showed that the increasing within the range pH of 3-5 will increase the ethanol concentration. Freecell technique gave the better result over the immobilized. The best result reached out the ethanol concentration of 13.04 % by the SSF.
