Abstract

The era of the industrial revolution 4.0 has begun, libraries are required to provide creativity in delivering information, both information about the availability of new collections or information on library services. This information can use various models of digital promotional media as a means of delivering creative library information such as using websites, social media, and other internet media. In this study using qualitative methods are reviewed through the library research method (Library Research), in strengthening this research the author uses observation and interviews as data collection tools. This study discusses the promotion model used by college libraries, namely using digital media, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. These four models are used by college libraries in delivering information to the campus community and aim to increase the interest in visiting and reading by students and lecturers in the library. This information can be in the form of delivery of delayed information, the latest collections in the library, library service information, information on university achievements, and book reviews.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the librarians’ competencies in selecting library collection and how to improve these competencies. The method used in this research is literature study. Based on this research, it can be explained that the librarians’ competencies in selecting library collection consist of having knowledge of several things, namely their institutional programs, the collection development policies, the needs of their users, the quality of various types of collections, the credibility of publishers and providers of electronic information sources, the ability of the authors, the use of various selection tools, as well as having knowledge about information technology development plus having skills in communicating and in using various types of collection. Furthermore, to improve the competencies, librarians need to do these things: follow several trainings; read more books to increase knowledge; conduct user studies; learn how to use the selection tools; study the quality of library materials; learn everything about book publishing; seek knowledge about book editors and producers of audio-visual materials; discover what publishers who produce the best material for libraries by researching their catalogs and advertisements; and examine the national bibliography and the book trade bibliographies.

Abstract

A virtual reference service is a service where librarians and users can communicate with each other in real time over the Internet. This study aims to analyze the virtual reference service 'Ask a Librarian' as a service with a real-time system, which is one of the library strategies for providing reference services to users without limited space and time. This study uses a qualitative approach. This article is based on literature studies that support the subject. The study result shows that the virtual reference service 'Ask a Librarian' makes it easy for reference librarians to provide information on user questions remotely, the quality of the information on this feature is very credible and quality because user questions about any library information are answered directly by the local reference librarian. With the real-time system used in this service, the completion time of activity, responsiveness, or latency is an important aspect of system quality. The presence of these services is expected to provide reference services to users without space constraints in a short time.
