Kawasan pesisir sejak lama telah menjadi salah satu tema utama dalam tinjauan sejarah budaya dunia. Karakter geografisnya yang khas, membuat wilayah ini menjadi titik mula bagi proses kontak dan interaksi antar budaya. Hadir sebagai kepulauan terbesar di dunia, Indonesia menjadi salah satu negara dengan garis pantai terpanjang. Suatu keadaan yang mencerminkan potensi kolosal kawasan pesisir di negeri ini. Termasuk potensi secara kultural. Sebagai salah satu kepulauan terluas di Indonesia, Maluku juga kaya dengan pusaka budaya kawasan pesisir. Makalah ini merupakan langkah awal untuk menemukan dan mengenali potensi pusaka budaya kawasan pesisir yang ada di Kepulauan Maluku dari sudut pandang studi arkeologi serta membuka ruang diskusi bagi arah pengelolaannya. Survei penjajakan dan studi pustaka dipilih sebagai pendekatan dalam kajian. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa wilayah Maluku memiliki potensi besar pusaka budaya kawasan pesisir yang perlu dikelola dengan pendekatan pengembangan berkelanjutan. Abstract. The coastal area has long been the major domain in the review of the world cultural history. The distinctive geographical character has made this region a starting point for the process of contact and interaction between cultures. As the world’s largest archipelago, Indonesia is one of the countries with the longest coast lines; a situation that reflects the colossal potential of the coastal region, not only politically and economically, but culturally as well. As one of the largest archipelagoes in Indonesia, the Moluccas also has the same potency. This paper tries to identify potential cultural heritage of coastal areas in the Maluku Archipelago from the archeological perspective and creates the discussion sphere to develop the management approach. Reconnaissance survey and literature study have been chosen as the approach in this research. This study found that the Maluku region has a great potency of cultural heritage of coastal areas that need to be managed with a sustainable development approach.

Abstrak. Kepulauan Maluku Tenggara adalah wilayah yang membentang antara Timor hingga Papua. Karakteristik geografis yang kompleks telah membentuk profil budaya kawasan ini yang menjadi sedemikian raya. Sejak awal Masehi wilayah ini juga dikenal sebagai kawasan sumber komoditi eksotik seperti mutiara bulu burung cendrawasih, emas, tenun hingga budak. Hal mana yang membuat kontak dan interaksi niaga dengan dunia luar telah terbentuk sejak berabad silam dan menciptakan profil kompleks sejarah budaya kawasan. Lepas dari peran kunci dimaksud, studi-studi sejarah budaya belum banyak memberikan perhatian atas dinamika kontak dan interaksi niaga di wilayah ini pada masa lalu.Termasuk dalam aspek arkeologis. Makalah ini mencoba mengisi ruang dimaksud dengan mengamati karakteristik aktivitas pelayaran dan perdagangan masa lalu di Kepulauan Maluku Tenggara serta implikasinya atas profil sejarah budaya kawasan. Studi pustaka dilekatkan sebagai pendekatan menjawab permasalah yang diajukan dalam kajian mula ini. Hasil telaah menemukan bahwa Kepulauan Maluku Tenggara telah membentuk suatu sistem pelayaran dan perdagangag yang kompleks masa prasejarah terus berkembang hingga masa kolonial. Implikasi atas proses kompleks ini kiranya dapat diamati dari karakteristik budaya wilayah ini yang raya serta jejak budaya materi yang tersebar luas dalam lingkup kawasanAbstract. Past Voyage and Trade in Southeast Moluccas Islands. The Southeast Moluccas Islands is the region that stretches between Timor and Papua. This geographical characteristic has formed the complex cultural profile of the archipelago. Since the early historical period, the Southeast Moluccas Islands is also known as a source area of the exotic commodities such as bird of paradise, gold, woven products and slaves. A condition that in the later times has created interaction and contact between this region and outside world. Despite this key role of the area, proper attention has not been given to study this region in the cultural historical perspective. Included in the archaeological studies. This paper tries to bridge the gap by observing the characteristic of the ancient seafaring and trading activities in the Southeast Moluccas Archipelago and it’s implication for the cultural historical profile of the region. The referential study has been attached as the main approach in this research. This study found that the region of Southeast Moluccas has established the seafaring and trading system since the prehistoric times and continues to be developed until the colonial period. The implications of this complex process is also can be observed in the complex cultural profile of the region as well as through the traces of the material cultural widespread in this archipelago.

Arkeologi Pulau Terluar Di Maluku: Survei Arkeologi Pulau Masela Ririmasse, Marlon

Abstrak. Masela adalah satu di antara sembilan puluh dua pulau terluar yang ada di Indonesia. Terletak di ujung selatan Kepulauan Maluku, pulau ini merupakan bagian dari bentang luas pulaupulau yang berbatasan dengan daratan besar Australia. Memiliki nilai strategis secara geografis dan geohistoris, kajian arkeologis atas pulau ini belum pernah dilakukan.Tulisan ini adalah rekam hasil penelitian arkeologis perdana di Pulau Masela yang dilakukan pada paruh kedua tahun 2012. Tulisan ini merupakan upaya lebih jauh untuk memahami wajah sejarah budaya Masela dengan mengamati segenap potensi arkeologis di wilayah ini yang telah direkam melalui sudut pandang arkeologi pulau terluar. Survei penjajakan diadopsi sebagai pendekatan untuk merekam secara luas ragam bukti materi masa lalu yang tersebar di pulau ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa Pulau Masela menunjukan tiga karakter khas dalam kaitan dengan potensi arkeologis di wilayah ini: konstruksi dan distribusi pemukiman kuna; jejak penguburan tradisional; dan situssitus terkait sejarah lokal. Pengembangan tema penelitian terkait ketiga potensi, kiranya dapat diinisiasi melalui pendalaman kajian atas situs-situs pemukiman kuna di wilayah ini.Abstract. The Archaeology of The Outer Islands: Archeological Survey in Masela Island. Masela is one of the ninety-two outermost islands in Indonesia. Situated in the southern-end of the Maluku Islands, Masela is a part of the islands in the bordering region with Australia. Having a strategic value geographically and geohistorically, archaeological research in this island has not been done yet. This paper is the record of the first archaeological study in Masela which have been conducted at the second half of 2012. This research is a further attempt to understand the cultural history in Masela by observing archaeological potential in this island. The Reconnaissance survey has been adopted as an approach to record the past material culture in the coverage survey areas. The result of this study shows that Masela have three distinctive character in relation to the archaeological potential of the region that consist of: construction and distribution of ancient settlements; traces of traditional burials; and living traditions among local communities. In developing the research theme related to this three potentials, might be initiated through the study of ancient settlements in this island.

Abstract. Social media has become a tool that links almost all aspects of human life, from the technology of information to the cultural segment where archaeology is part of it. For more than two decades, social media not only has become an informal place to encounter and exchange of ideas but also holds important role to share about archeological knowledge to the public in Maluku. This paper attempts to observe the correlation between archaeology and social media to support the effort of expanding the archaological knowledge and cultural history in Maluku. The method used in this research is literature study. The results of the study indicates that social media has become one of the main agents in the publication of archaeological knowledge in Maluku and is very prospective for further development. Media sosial telah menjadi wahana yang bertautan dengan hampir seluruh aspek kehidupan manusia saat ini mulai dari ranah teknologi informasi hingga segmen kebudayaan, termasuk di dalamnya disiplin arkeologi. Sudah lebih dari dua dekade media sosial tidak saja menjadi ruang informal perjumpaan dan pertukaran gagasan, tetapi telah menjelma menjadi motor efektif yang turut menggerakkan dinamika akademis disiplin arkeologi, termasuk menjadi agen bagi interaksi arkeologi dan masyarakat. Media sosial berperan sebagai salah satu ruang paling efektif dalam meluaskan pengetahuan arkeologi bagi publik juga masuk di Maluku. Makalah ini mencoba mengamati hubungan disiplin arkeologi dan media sosial bagi perluasan pengetahuan arkeologi dan sejarah budaya untuk masyarakat di Maluku. Metode yang digunakan adalah kajian pustaka. Hasil studi menemukan bahwa media sosial telah menjadi salah satu agen utama dalam publikasi pengetahuan arkeologi di Maluku dan prospektif untuk terus dikembangkan ke depan.Kata kunci: Arkeologi, publik, media sosial, Maluku
