Abstract

This study aims to analyze the personality competence of ninth-grade teachers at SMP Negeri 23 Medan based on students' perceptions. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through observation and in-depth interviews involving nine purposively selected students. The findings reveal that most teachers demonstrated basic aspects of personality competence, such as punctuality and responsibility. However, several issues were identified, including emotional instability in handling classroom situations, favoritism, and the use of physical punishment as a disciplinary method. These findings indicate that teachers' personality competence still needs improvement, particularly in emotional regulation, fairness, and role modeling. The study recommends structured and continuous personality development programs for teachers to foster a positive classroom environment and support students' character development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the improvement of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) through mathematics learning on the Three-Dimensional Geometry topic in Grade XII of Yayasan Pendidikan Al-Fattah Medan. HOTS is a crucial aspect of 21st-century education because it helps students develop critical, creative, logical, and reflective thinking skills in addressing complex problems. In the context of mathematics learning, particularly in spatial geometry, mastering HOTS not only supports students in understanding abstract concepts but also in applying them to real-life situations. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with instruments consisting of a pre-test, post-test, and an open-ended questionnaire to explore students’ understanding and learning experiences. The findings revealed a significant improvement, where the average pre-test score of 7 increased to 52.21 in the post-test. This result highlights that the implementation of HOTS-based learning strategies is effective in enhancing students’ comprehension of distance, angles, and point positions in space, while simultaneously strengthening their analytical, evaluative, and creative abilities. The study implies the importance of adopting innovative learning strategies oriented toward HOTS development to improve the quality of mathematics education and prepare students for global challenges.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis miskonsepsi yang muncul dalam buku teks Matematika SMA pada topik turunan fungsi, khususnya terkait dengan definisi turunan, representasi visual melalui grafik, serta contoh soal yang disajikan. This research aims to analyze the misconceptions that arise in high school mathematics textbooks on the topic of function derivatives, specifically regarding the definition of derivatives, visual representation through graphs, and the example problems presented. Derivatives are a fundamental concept in calculus that requires not only procedural skills but also a deep conceptual understanding.The analysis shows that some books still present the definition of a derivative rigidly without connecting the meaning of a limit to the instantaneous rate of change. In the aspect of graphical visuals, there is a tendency to display illustrations that are inconsistent with the formal definition, making it difficult for students to connect the function graph with its derivative graph. Additionally, example problems often only emphasize mechanistic techniques (using quick derivative rules) without providing an understanding of the initial concept.This condition has the potential to cause misconceptions, such as the assumption that derivatives are merely a "formula" without geometric or applicative meaning. These findings underscore the importance of evaluating and improving textbooks so they can balance the conceptual, procedural, and representational aspects of learning function derivatives.

Abstract

Toleransi antaragama memiliki peranan yang sangat krusial dalam kehidupan komunitas yang beragam keyakinannya. Hal ini disebabkan karena toleransi merupakan sikap yang seharusnya dimiliki oleh setiap individu untuk saling menghargai, menerima, dan menghormati penganut agama lain. Di dalam ajaran Islam pun ditegaskan bahwa sikap toleran itu sangat penting, dan tidak boleh ada paksaan dalam memilih agama yang diyakini seseorang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memberikan penjelasan bahwa penanaman sikap toleransi pada generasi saat ini merupakan hal yang sangat mendesak. Alasan di balik pentingnya hal ini adalah karena Gen Z, yang hidup di era teknologi dan internet yang canggih, mengalami penurunan rasa toleransi. Mereka menganggap toleransi sebagai sesuatu yang tidak begitu penting dan merasa tidak perlu bersosialisasi. Pemikiran semacam ini muncul karena akses mereka terhadap teknologi dan internet sangat memudahkan kehidupan sehari-hari. Penulis menerapkan metode deskriptif, yang berfungsi sebagai penjelasan dan gambaran. Penjelasan dan deskripsi ini diperoleh melalui jurnal, buku, dan berita yang ada. Dalam penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa sikap toleransi sangat diperlukan untuk menciptakan stabilitas sosial dalam masyarakat yang beragam agama, serta menghasilkan suasana saling menjaga dan aman dalam interaksi sosial.
