Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between communication behaviour and the capacity of extension agents in agricultural extension activities in Kendari City. The research location was chosen based on several considerations, such as: being an area with a lower level of change in people's behaviour in communicating with each other, being an area where the majority of people use information technology so that face-to-face communication between people is decreasing. The number of samples in this study was 58 agricultural extension workers because the total population in the study did not reach 100 people, so the number of pieces was taken using a census technique. The method used in this study is a quantitative method using data analysis, namely descriptive analysis and correlation analysis (rank spearman), with the help of SPSS software. The results of this study indicate that communication behaviour, both in terms of knowledge, skills, and intensity, is in the high category, with an average value of 4.27. The capacity of extension agents, which includes the ability to facilitate, access information, technology, and resources, and improve the organization, is also in the high category with an average value of 4.07. The relationship between communication behaviour and extension capacity in Kendari City's agricultural activities is very close, with a correlation coefficient of 0.81 (positive). Extension workers' communication behaviour and ability need to be maintained so that farmers get satisfying new information and knowledge while participating in extension activities.

The research sample was determined using the Slovin formula with an error rate of 10%, resulting in a sample size of 34 farmers. This research employed a quantitative approach. Data were collected through surveys, interviews, and document review, with the assistance of questionnaires. Quantitative descriptive analysis was used to process the data. The findings indicated that the quality of agricultural extension services in farming development activities in Baruga Village was generally rated as good or high. This can be observed in each indicator, namely tangible, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy, which have been executed optimally. Furthermore, the satisfaction of farmers with regard to agricultural extension activities in the development of farming in Baruga Village is evident. This is demonstrated by the positive response (satisfaction) of farmers to the actions of extension workers, which begins with the activities of extension service visits and extends to the satisfaction with the material presented, the ability to identify potential, and the satisfaction with the ability of extension workers to identify problems.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of agricultural extension workers in rice cultivation. The population of this study is comprised of all rice farmers residing in Tawamelewe Village, constituting a total sample size of 300 individuals. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 15%, resulting in a sample size of 38 people. The sampling process was executed through the utilization of simple random sampling. The data presented herein was collected through a combination of interviews, documentation, and surveys with questionnaires. The independent variables in this study were the role of agricultural extension workers and rice cultivation. The research data was analyzed using two methods: descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The results of the study indicate that the role of agricultural extension workers in Tawamelewe Village, Uepai District, Konawe Regency, is in the high category, reflecting that extension workers have performed their functions optimally as facilitators, motivators, innovators, and educators. On the other hand, rice cultivation by farmers in the village is in the good category, indicating that all stages of cultivation, from land preparation to harvest and post-harvest, have been carried out appropriately. Through data analysis using the Sperman Rank test, a correlation coefficient value of 1.000 with a significance level of 0.001 was obtained, indicating a very strong and significant relationship between the role of agricultural extension workers and the success of rice cultivation. The perfect correlation between the role of extension workers and the quality of rice cultivation underscores the importance of optimizing the role of agricultural extension workers as the key to the success of a sustainable cultivation system, and provides a scientific basis for strengthening extension institutions at the village level to enhance overall agricultural productivity.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the performance of agricultural extension workers in Kendari City. The population of this study comprised 63 agricultural extension workers in Kendari City. The sample was determined using the saturated sampling method, also known as census, which entailed the inclusion of the entire population. The data were collected using a variety of methods, including observation, a review of the literature, documentation, and interviews guided by questionnaires. The research variables are the performance of agricultural extension workers. The collected data is then subjected to quantitative analysis. The quantitative analysis process was executed by the Work Achievement Value (NPK) formula. The results indicated that the performance of agricultural extension workers in Kendari City was predominantly in the medium or good category, as evidenced by the mean value of the Work Achievement Score (NPK), which was recorded at 84.66. Consequently, agricultural extension workers have effectively implemented the three extension indicators, particularly in the preparation and evaluation stages, as outlined in the Minister of Agriculture Regulation Number 91/Permentan/OT.140/9-2013.

Abstract

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth) is a high-value plantation commodity that is Indonesia's primary producer of essential oils with considerable export prospects. However, despite its cultivation in various areas, including Lambangi Village in South Konawe Regency, the management of this crop continues to face challenges, such as declining soil fertility and suboptimal farmer income. The objective of this study is to ascertain the level of interest among farmers in Lambangi Village regarding the cultivation of patchouli. The population under study comprised all 30 patchouli farmers in Lambangi Village. The sample was determined using the census method. The data were processed using the class interval formula and then analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study indicate that the level of interest among farmers in Lambangi Village in cultivating patchouli is relatively high, with 86.67% of farmers falling into the "good" category. The dimensions of desire, involvement, and interest exhibited a significant contribution to farmers' decisions to continue developing patchouli farming. The findings suggest that intrinsic motivation, particularly internal drive and satisfaction with cultivation outcomes, plays a pivotal role in business sustainability. Furthermore, social interaction among farmers plays a pivotal role in enhancing knowledge transfer and fostering local innovation.
