Abstract

The “Chinese Made Easy” textbook is one of the widely used textbook in learning Mandarin at secondary school in West Java. Apart from the high level of use, this textbook remain has disadvantages, particularly on the aspect of  exercises. This research analyzes and evaluates Chinese listening and speaking skills exercises in “Chinese Made Easy I 2nd Edition” textbook. The purposes of this research were to analyze the suitability of the exercises in the “Chinese Made Easy I 2nd Edition” textbook with the indicators for evaluating exercises designed by Li Quan, as well as to describe its advantages and disadvantages. This research uses a content analysis method with a qualitative approach. Researchers mapped the listening and speaking exercise in “Chinese Made Easy I 2nd Edition” textbook  as data. Data analysis of exercise evaluation indicators is categorized into aspects of learning material coverage, aspects of the number and variety of types of exercises, aspects of levels of difficulty and relevance between exercises, and aspects of motivational function. The results indicate that the exercises in “Chinese Made Easy I 2nd Edition” textbook are quite compatible with the indicators for evaluating exercises. This textbook has exercises that are in accordance to the learning materials, variative, gradual, and can encourage students on developing their listening and speaking skills in Mandarin, yet it has disadvantages in the aspect of the amount and variety of listening exercises. Keywords: Exercises, listening skills, speaking skills, textbook, Chinese Made Easy.   Abstrak Buku “Chinese Made Easy” merupakan salah satu buku ajar yang banyak digunakan dalam pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin tingkat SMP/SMA di Jawa Barat. Terlepas dari tingkat penggunaan yang tinggi, buku ini masih memiliki kekurangan, terutama dalam aspek latihan. Penelitian ini menganalisis dan mengevaluasi latihan keterampilan menyimak dan berbicara bahasa Mandarin pada buku “Chinese Made Easy I Edisi Kedua”. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kesesuaian antara latihan pada buku “Chinese Made Easy I Edisi Kedua” dengan indikator evaluasi latihan yang dirancang oleh Li Quan, serta untuk memaparkan kelebihan dan kekurangan dari latihan buku tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis isi dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Peneliti melakukan pemetaan terhadap soal latihan menyimak dan berbicara buku “Chinese Made Easy I Edisi Kedua” sebagai data. Analisis data terhadap indikator evaluasi latihan dikategorikan ke dalam aspek cakupan materi pembelajaran, aspek jumlah dan variasi jenis latihan, aspek tahapan tingkat kesulitan dan relevansi antarlatihan, serta aspek fungsi motivasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa soal latihan pada buku “Chinese Made Easy I Edisi Kedua” sudah cukup sesuai dengan indikator evaluasi latihan. Buku ini memiliki latihan yang sesuai materi, variatif, bertahap, dan dapat mendorong siswa untuk berlatih mengembangkan keterampilan menyimak dan berbicara bahasa Mandarin, namun memiliki kekurangan dalam aspek jumlah dan variasi latihan menyimak.

Abstract

Currently there are two versions of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) exam held by Hanban to measure Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers, namely New HSK and New Standard HSK. HSK not only includes vocabulary, but also includes idioms, but there is a significant accumulation of idioms at the highest level in both exams. In contrast to most other studies of Chinese idioms which focus more on learning methods, in this research author analyses the distribution of idioms contain in the New HSK and New Standard HSK exams with the aim to provide suggestions for updating the application of idioms in both exams. This research uses descriptive research methods with a qualitative approach. The results of this research can be concluded that the distribution of idioms in the New HSK and New Standard HSK exams does not have gradation of increasing numbers from lower levels to higher levels. Therefore, author suggests Hanban to spread idioms that are relatively easy and whose meaning can be understand directly to lower exam levels by appearing in listening and reading sections and increasing the intersection of idiom between New HSK and New Standard HSK. The implication of these updating suggestions are expected to make it easier for teachers and students to prepare for exams, teach idioms earlier in the context of everyday life, increase practice in applying idioms which are the intersection of New HSK and New Standard HSK, and introduce idioms using explaining the culture or history behind an idiom. Keywords : HSK, New HSK, New Standard HSK, idioms, learning.   Abstrak Saat ini terdapat dua versi ujian Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) yang diadakan oleh Hanban untuk mengukur kemahiran berbahasa Mandarin penutur asing, yaitu New HSK dan New Standard HSK. Soal HSK tidak hanya meliputi kosakata sehari – hari, tetapi juga meliputi idiom, namun terjadi penumpukan jumlah idiom yang signifikan pada level atas dalam ujian New HSK dan New Standard HSK. Berbeda dengan kebanyakan penelitian idiom bahasa Mandarin lainnya yang lebih banyak menyoroti metode pembelajarannya, dalam penelitian ini dilakukan analisis sebaran idiom yang terdapat dalam ujian New HSK dan New Standard HSK dengan tujuan untuk memberikan saran pembaharuan penerapan idiom dalam kedua ujian tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan sebaran idiom pada ujian New HSK dan New Standard HSK tidak memiliki gradasi peningkatan jumlah dari level rendah menuju level yang lebih tinggi. Oleh karena itu Hanban perlu untuk menyebar idiom-idiom yang relatif mudah dan maknanya dapat dipahami secara langsung ke level ujian yang lebih rendah, memunculkan idiom-idiom yang mudah dipahami pada soal ujian level rendah bagian mendengar (listening) dan membaca (reading) dengan konteks sehari-hari, dan meningkatkan interseksi kemunculan idiom antara New HSK dan New Standard HSK. Implikasi dari pembaharuan yang disarankan dapat memudahkan pengajar dan pemelajar mempersiapkan diri mengikuti ujian, dapat lebih dini mengajarkan idiom dalam konteks kehidupan sehari – hari, memperbanyak latihan penerapan idiom yang merupakan interseksi New HSK dan New Standard HSK, dan memperkenalkan idiom dengan metode bercerita budaya atau sejarah di balik sebuah idiom.

Abstract

Mandarin is the second most widely used foreign language in the world. Teaching Mandarin needs appropriate teaching methods and media to achieve learning objectives. Researchers researched the learning of Mandarin conversation in one of the private universities of Bandung to analyze the influence of teaching methods applied and teaching media used during online learning. The research involved a descriptive analysis method with a qualitative approach. Data collection was done by filling out questionnaires and interviews to determine the alignment of teaching methods and teaching media used and the influence of teaching methods and media on online learning of Mandarin conversation in that university. The results showed that learning Mandarin conversation online using three learning methods (audio-lingual, communicative approach, and task-based methods) and online teaching media Zoom Meeting, YouTube, Morning, and WhatsApp was perceived as effective. It could improve university students’ Mandarin conversation skills.

Abstract

Along with Mandarin, which has become the second international language, learning Mandarin is increasingly considered very important. However, this trend has not run optimally in Cirebon; since the COVID-19 pandemic, several schools have eliminated Mandarin lessons. Apart from the lack of teaching staff for Mandarin in Cirebon, this condition is also caused by several problems in learning Mandarin in schools, one of which is learning Han characters. This research analyzes how Han characters are taught in a high school in Cirebon City and uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques like observation, questionnaires, and quizzes. This study aims to solve the problem of learning Han characters and encourage the development of Mandarin language learning in Indonesia, especially in Cirebon. The study found that teaching staff, learning methods, and materials were the main problems in learning Han characters at the research location. The implications of the results of this study can be used as a reference for stakeholders, such as schools and the government, to pay attention to the quality of Mandarin language learning, especially in providing quality teaching staff and using appropriate learning methods and materials.

Abstract

With very rapid technological advances, the use of social media has become a lifestyle for the general public in various fields, including education. Social media is a new alternative learning media that can provide changes to the learning system. The Instagram of PT. Bolong Media Indonesia presents content about China in the fields of politics, business, technology, language and culture, etc. The aim of this research is to analyze the use of Instagram PT. Bolong Media Indonesia as a medium for learning Mandarin and Chinese culture. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. This research data was obtained through the process of identifying content of Instagram PT Bolong Media Indonesia and distributing questionnaires. The preparation of the questionnaire and analysis of survey results was carried out based on the Uses & Gratifications Theory. The results of this research are the Instagram of PT. Bolong Media Indonesia is suitable for use as a medium for learning Mandarin language and Chinese culture in Indonesia based on digital literacy, making it easier for students to independently search for sources of information and deepen their understanding and language skills.

Abstract

Bahasa Mandarin termasuk dalam bahasa asing yang sulit dipelajari, namun Bahasa Mandarin telah menjadi bahasa terpopuler kedua setelah Bahasa Inggris, sehingga jumlah peminat pemelajar Bahasa Mandarin kini kian meningkat. Dapat berkomunikasi dengan Bahasa Mandarin dapat memudahkan seseorang dalam mendapatkan pekerjaan yang berkualitas, termasuk profesi sekretaris. Menjadi seorang sekretaris dituntut harus berwawasan luas dan memiliki kemampuan berbahasa asing agar dapat membantu atasan dalam menyampaikan pesan dengan tepat. Berdasarkan perkembangan kebutuhan tersebut, sebuah akademi sekretari di Jawa Barat membekali mahasiswanya dengan keterampilan berbahasa Mandarin, yang pada semester ganjil 2021/2022 dijalankan secara daring akibat pandemi Covid-19. Penelitian ini menganalisis efektivitas pembelajaran daring Bahasa Mandarin akademi sekretari tersebut selama satu semester, serta menganalisis strategi pembelajaran yang dilakukan tim pengajar melalui fitur breakout room pada platform Zoom. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif, berdasarkan landasan teori menganalisis data yang didapatkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan angket. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses pembelajaran daring mata kuliah Bahasa Mandarin di akademi sekretari tersebut sudah efektif, tingkat kepuasan mahasiswa cukup tinggi, tingkat penguasaan mahasiswa cukup baik. Optimalisasi kombinasi pembelajaran sinkronus dan pembelajaran asinkronus dapat diterapkan demi meningkatkan efektivitas pembelajaran di semester mendatang. Mandarin is a difficult language to learn. Although, Mandarin has been the second most popular language after English, there is an increase of demand to learn Mandarin. Being able to communicate in Mandarin, will ease in securing a quality job, including secretarial profession. To be a secretary requires to have a large amount of knowledge and being able to speak multiple foreign languages to be able to deliver the right context. Based on these needs, a secretatial academy in West Java prepared its students with Mandarin language skills. However, due to pandemic Covid-19, lessons in odd semester of 2021/2022 were taught online. This research was conducted to analyse the effectiveness of online learning. The method of teaching was to divide the students into small groups using breakout room feature on Zoom platform. This research method used a descriptive qualitative approach, based on the theoretical basis of analysing the data obtained through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The result shows that online learning for Mandarin courses at secretarial academy was effective. The students was satisfied and shows progress. To optimise the learning process, next semester will impliment a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning to improve the learning effectiveness

Abstract

Kalimat merupakan satuan bahasa terkecil yang dapat berdiri sendiri menyatakan pikiran seseorang. Kalimat perintah merupakan kalimat yang mengandung perintah untuk seseorang melakukan suatu hal yang diinginkan oleh pembicara, terdiri dari kalimat perintah biasa, permintaan, izin, ajakan, saran, dan larangan. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti melakukan analisis terhadap kalimat perintah Bahasa Mandarin yang muncul sangat banyak pada acara ragam 《放开我北鼻 第三季》“Let Go of My Baby Season 3” pada aplikasi WeTV. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganalisis ciri gramatikal berbagai jenis kalimat perintah Bahasa Mandarin dan teknik penerjemahannya ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Dalam analisis ini peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan oleh peneliti yaitu teknik simak catat dari subtitle acara ragam tersebut. Peneliti telah melakukan analisis struktur gramtikal terhadap data kalimat perintah yang terkumpul untuk menemukan ciri-ciri gramatikal dari setiap jenis kalimat perintah. Berdasarkan data penerjemahan ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia pada subtitle dan ciri gramatikal yang ditemukan, peneliti telah mengidentifikasi metode semantis dan harafiah yang lazim digunakan untuk menerjemahkan berbagai jenis kalimat perintah Bahasa Mandarin.

Abstract

Since 600 years ago, due to Indonesia’s very strategic position, Indonesia has become one of the centers of trade and cultural exchange in the Pacific Ocean. Because many traders from China landed in several areas in Indonesia, there were many phenomena of local cultural acculturation with Chinese culture. The acculturation process occurs because of social contact from one culture to another or the native culture with the culture of immigrants. This research is a qualitative descriptive research that analyzes the pattern of local cultural acculturation with Chinese culture in each episode of the documentary film "Jelajah Budaya Tionghoa Nusantara" produced by DAAI TV. The pattern of cultural acculturation was analyzed using Gillin and Gillin's theory. The results of this research show that local people in Indonesia who are open to other cultures but still maintain their own culture make the process of cultural acculturation run well. The most dominant factor in encouraging the acculturation of Indonesian Chinese culture is because of loyalty and social harmony. Tolerance between ethnic groups can be created through the open-mindedness of its people. Indonesian Chinese ethnic group, the government, and local people must move in one dynamic movement towards the same direction for the progress of the Indonesian nation.
