Abstract

This research aims to find the description and the profiles of School Engagement that being applied by the students of Pangudi Luhur Van Lith high school. School Engagement is included in three types of multifaceted components which are behavioral, emotional and cognitive. The data wascollected by using School Engagement‟s Questionare that was contructed from theoretical concept of School Engagement from Fredericks, Blumenfeld and Paris (2005). The data has been analyzed by using descriptive analysis method to find the conclusion. The result shows that 33,87% of the studentshave engaging in school‟s activity. In contrary, 66,13% of the students still not engaging yet and divided into 5 different profiles.Keywords : School Engagement, Behavioral, Emotional, Cognitive

Abstract

This study aims to measure the contribution of traits and productive parenting patterns as predictors of character strengths. Features were assumed as a natural or an innate factor in individuals, while effective parenting patterns were considered a nurture or an external factor. In this study, the trait concept is studied using the theory of Five-Factor Personality from Costa and McRae; the productive parenting pattern is studied using Baumrind's approach, and the idea of character strengths is explored using the theory proposed by Peterson and Seligman. The validity and reliability of all questionnaires are examined by construct validity and internal consistency. Respondents were 247 individuals with a young adult to the adult developmental range. The result of regression analysis shows that traits and productive parenting patterns significantly contributed to establishing all character strengths with the value of R2 from 0.226 to 0.562. This finding concludes that character strengths will be well developed in individuals if the innate factor (traits) are optimized with productive parenting (with acceptance and warmth and clear and consistent rules from the parents).

Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between optimism and grit on the Air Force Academy (AAU) cadet candidates (catar) in Lanud 'X' city of Bandung. There were 104 respondents who participated in this study with ages ranging from 18-21 years. This study uses a correlation research design. The optimism questionaire is compiled by researchers themselves based on the theory of optimism by Seligman (2006). Researchers used grit questionaire designed by Prameswari and Vivekananda (2017) based on Duckworth's grit theory (2007). The data analysis technique used in this study was theta wilcoxon correlation test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between optimism and grit with a correlation coefficient of 0.324, which means it has moderate relationship strength. This means that an optimistic catar views in the face of both good and bad events will be accompanied by a high degree of grit and vice versa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan suatu studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan pada okupasi/profesi tertentu, dalam hal ini yaitu profesi Dosen. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh kekuatan karakter terhadap masing-masing komponen komitmen okupasi yaitu komitmen afektif, komitmen normatif dan komitmen kontinyu  Subjek penelitian adalah 80 dosen di salah satu perguruan tinggi swasta di Kota Bandung. Teknik penarikan sampel menggunakan teknik klaster; setiap klaster mewakili satu fakultas. Penelitian ini mengukur dua variabel yaitu komitmen okupasi dan kekuatan karakter. Variabel komitmen okupasi diukur menggunakan kuesioner yang disusun oleh tim peneliti dengan mengacu pada Teori Meyer & Allen (2016), sedangkan variabel kekuatan karakter diukur menggunakan kuesioner adaptasi dari Original VIA Adults Assesment (www.viacharacter.org) Masing-masing kuesioner kemudian diujicobakan kembali untuk menentukan besaran koefisien validitas dan reliabilitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kekuatan karakter memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan terhadap pembentukan komponen komitmen normatif dengan besaran kontribusi 54,3% (p ≤ 0.05 dan R2 = 0,543). Hasil penelitian awal ini menunjukan bahwa kekuatan karakter sebagai salah satu konsep kepribadian berdasarkan sudut pandang Psikologi Positif dapat menjadi faktor yang menentukan terbentuknya komitmen normatif secara optimal dalam menjalankan profesi sebagai seorang dosen. Dalam menjalankan profesi sebagai dosen di perguruan tinggi swasta tersebut, komitmen okupasi yang paling dihayati oleh responden adalah komitmen afektif, sedangkan  kekuatan karakter yang paling dominan (distribusi frekuensi ≥ 50%) yang terbentuk dalam diri seorang dosen di perguruan tinggi swasta tersebut adalah Keingintahuan, Keadilan, Memaafkan, Pertimbangan, Kepemimpinan, Ketekunan, Pandangan (Perspektif), Kerjasama Tim dan Gairah (Semangat).
