Abstract

Serangkaian kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat telah dilakukan baik secara langsung dan secara online yaitu work from home (WFH), pada bulan Juli 2020 di Wilayah Tanjungsari Kecamatan Tanjungsari Kabupaten Sumedang dan Desember 2020 di Kelompok peternak Harapan Jaya Tanjungsari Sumedang. Tujuan dari PPM yang dilaksanakan adalah meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat mengenai manajemen pemeliharaan dan pembesaran pedet betina sapi perah menuju sapi produktif. Sasaran pelaksanaan kegiatan adalah peternak sapi perah anggota kelompok peternak yang tergabung di koperasi KSU Tandangsari Kecamatan Tanjungsari, Kabupaten Sumedang. Metode penyuluhan yang digunakan adalah ceramah melalui zoom meeting dan melalui forum diskusi terbatas dengan kelompok peternak Harapan Jaya Tanjungsari. Peserta yang hadir pada kegiatan penyuluhan sebanyak 40 orang terdiri atas peternak, pengurus koperasi, dosen dan mahasiswa peserta KKN sedangkan pada forum diskusi dengan kelompok ternak Harapan jaya dihadiri 15 orang peternak pada pertemuan pertama dan 15 orang pada pertemuan kedua. Hasil kegiatan disimpulkan bahwa secara umum peternak dan partisipan sangat antusias dalam mengikuti penyuluhan manajemen pemeliharaan pedet pada masa pandemic covid-19 dan penerapannya untuk mempercepat pertumbuhan pedet betina menjadi sapi produktif dan menyampaiakan berbagai permasalahan yang muncul di kalangan peternak seperti motivasi berternak yang kian luntur. Permasalahan tersebut akan menjadi konsen pengabdian berikutnya.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui performa produksi sapi perah Friesian Holstein di PT. UPBS. Objek penelitian adalah catatan lengkap produksi susu dengan katagori produksi susu lebih dari 7000 kg/laktasi, lama laktasi, puncak laktasi, dan lama kering kandang dari laktasi 1 sampai 4 selama tahun 2017-2020. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan performa produksi susu laktasi 1 adalah 10.037,84 ± 1.309,79 kg; lama laktasi 347,28 ± 56,76 hari; puncak produksi hari ke 82,03 ± 28,05; dan lama kering kandang 49,60 ± 13,78 hari.

Abstract

Efisiensi pemerahan adalah satu paket rutinitas pekerjaan yang optimal sehingga dapat meningkatkan efisiensi produksi peternakan sapi perah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi efisiensi dari milking parlour di PT. Ultra Peternakan Bandung Selatan (PT. UPBS). Objek penelitian ini adalah sapi perah berproduksi tinggi (>30 kg/hari). Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan mengukur durasi ternak memasuki stall hingga ternak keluar stall. Waktu diukur untuk setiap satu baris stall ketika pemerahan pada grup 10 dan grup 11. Rataan populasi, milk yield, lama durasi pemerahan untuk grup 10 dan 11 diambil dari MIS Data. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa rataan waktu handling tercepat didapat grup pemerah C dengan waktu 2 menit 16 detik. Sedangkan, waktu terlama didapat grup pemerah B dengan waktu 3 Menit 45 Detik. Nilai cow milked/stall/hour terendah didapat grup pemerah A dengan nilai 4,393. Sedangkan, nilai tertinggi didapat grup pemerah C dengan nilai 5,721. Perbedaan ini dipengaruhi durasi handling, pemerahan dan kerja sama tim. Durasi Handling mempengaruhi nilai cow milked/stall/hour, yang mana handling ternak dipengaruhi cow flow yang dibantu dengan backing door. Lama pemerahan dipengaruhi oleh stimulus hormon oksitosin untuk mempercepat milk-let-down dan meningkatkan milk flow rate. Kerja sama tim diperlukan agar prosedur pemerahan berjalan dengan baik, pembagian zona pada operator dapat membantu menjaga keefektifan kerja operator.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the differences and effects of the Temperature Humidity Index (THI) on dairy cows’ productivity in West Java based on differences in farm altitude. Categorization based on area altitude can be divided into low altitude (<700 m asl), moderate (700-1000 m asl), and high (> 1,000 m asl). The parameters observed were body size, body weight, and milk production which were supplemented by environmental conditions namely temperature and humidity. The method used is a survey and direct observation by simple random sampling of animals. The results showed differences in environmental conditions, namely temperature and humidity in each dairy farm with different altitudes. Meanwhile, the performance of milk production is relatively the same even though variations in the performance of body measurements and weight of dairy cows in each region. It can be concluded that heat environmental conditions with high THI can cause cows to suffer from heat stress so that productivity decreases.

Abstract

The research on the body measurements of female and male Murrah Buffalo was carried out in December 2023 on Pagar Merbau Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. The research aimed to know body measurements, including shoulder height, body length, and chest size, of Murrah Buffalo which were aged <1.5 years old, 1.5-3.5 years old and >3.5 years old on Pagar Merbau Subdistrict. The number of buffalo studied was 113, including 99 female buffalo and 14 male buffalo. The research method uses a descriptive quantitative method with a case study approach. Data collection uses the snowball sampling technique. The results showed that the averaged shoulder height of Murrah Buffalo females aged <1.5 years old, 1.5-3.5 years old and >3.5 years old were 89.82±15.77 cm, 124.67±3.25 cm, and 135.65±6.24 cm; in males, they were 84.79±16.40 cm, 121 cm, and 147 cm, respectively. Meanwhile, the average body length in females was 83.50±26.74 cm, 122.73±2.92 cm, and 131.26±6.23 cm; in males, it was 89.67±23.04 cm, 119 cm, and 151 cm, respectively. Furthermore, the average chest size in females was 102.82±24.73 cm, 189.15±13.76 cm, and 202.61±12.24 cm; in males, it was 106.33±26.13 cm, 201 cm, and 209 cm. The conclusion is that the body size of the Murrah buffalo in Pagar Merbau District, Deli Serdang Regency, is relatively proportional to the body size of the cheap buffalo.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding fermentation additives on the organoleptic quality and palatability of silo-fermented silage. Four treatments were tested in a completely randomized design: P1 (no additive), P2 (molasses), P3 (molasses + probiotics), and P4 (complete feed: molasses + probiotics + concentrate), each with six replications, and a palatability test involving five dairy cows. The silage was assessed based on organoleptic parameters and actual feed intake. The observed variables were organoleptic properties (aroma, smell, color, and texture) and palatability indicators (feeding duration and feed intake). The data obtained were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results indicated that the addition of fermentation additives did not have a significant effect (P>0.05) on aroma, texture, color, or palatability levels. These findings suggest that the forage quality and the fermentation conditions within the silo were optimal, resulting in no noticeable differences among treatments. The implications of this study highlight the need for further investigation into the dosage, composition, and forage characteristics of fermentation additives to achieve more distinct and applicable improvements in silage quality within dairy production systems
