<![CDATA[The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between the  students‟ motivation and  their  speaking competence at grade 11 of Senior High School 4 Kendari. The design of this study was quantitative research and the population was all grade 11 students at Senior High School 4 Kendari with the total numbers of students was 620 students. The sample of this study was class XI MIA 7 (36 students). The instrument of this study were questionnaire and students‟ speaking score. The researcher collected the data by using questionnaire adapted from Sun (2009) as the data of students‟ motivation and final speaking score to get  data  about  students‟ speaking achievement. To analyze the data, the researcher used descriptive statistic to  view the  students‟ speaking achievement and their motivation based on five categories are; very low, low, medium, high, and very high. The  result of this  study showed that students‟ speaking achievement was mostly categorized in good criteria. It also showed that the students were highly motivated to learn speaking English by using video blog. The result of inferential statistics analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between students‟ motivation and their speaking achievement at grade 11 of Senior High School 4 Kendari. It was proved by the result of product moment correlation (rxy = 0.487), which was higher than r-table = 0.329.It means that motivation and achievement had a positive correlation.]]>

<![CDATA[This research aimed at investigating whether there is a significant effect of Picture Word Inductive Model on students’ competence in writing narrative text. The design of this research was Pre-Experimental design one group pre test and post test. The population of this research was all first grade of class IPA of Senior High School 4 Wangi-Wangi. The sample of this research was class IPA 1 which consists of 20 students. The instrument of this research was writing test in narrative genre and the criteria of students’ writing were assessed from five aspects of writing, namely content, organization, language use, vocabulary and mechanics. The data were obtained by using two essay writing tests. They were pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was given before treatment and the post-test was given after treatments in order to know the students’ competence before and after treatment of Picture Word Inductive Model. The data were analyzed by using SPSS in form of Paired Sample T-test. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant effect of Picture Word Inductive Model on students’ competence in writing narrative text. It proved by the result of hypothesis testing using paired sample t-test. The mean score of pre-test was 59.77 and mean score of post-test was 76.67. Moreover, as a result the probability score of .000 (p score) was less than the level of significance (p ≤ 0.50. Therefore, it can be said that using Picture Word Inductive Model gives significant effect to increase students’ competence in writing narrative text at class IPA 1 of Senior High School 4 Wangi-Wangi.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of conducting this research is to examine the difference NGain scores between students who learn vocabulary with Blindfold Game and students who learn vocabulary without Blindfold Game at the first year students of SMP Negeri 13 Kendari. The samples of this research are the first grade four (VII-4) and the first grade three (VII-3) which consists of 27 students for each class. This research is conducted in comparison research design that consists of experimental class (VII-4) and controll class (VII-3). The data of this research are collected by giving pre-test and post-test in two classes (VII-4 & VII-3). The result shows that there is an improvement of the students’ vocabulary achievement. Independent samples t-test shows that, there is a significant difference in the Ngain scores for experimental class ( M = 60.08, SD = 9.36 ) and controll class ( M = 20.41, SD = 14.56 ), t (52) = 11.904, p (0.000) < 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the value of Sig (2 tailed) is lower than the significance α value (0.000 < 0.05). In other words, alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It means that the Blindfold game can enrich students’ vocabulary achievement for Junior High School Student.]]>

<![CDATA[The study aims at investigating the correlation between students’ emotional intelligence and their academic achievement at the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Lawa. The objective of the study was to answer the following research questions: what is the correlation between students’ emotional intelligence and their academic achievement in English language at SMAN 1 Lawa?. The study was correlation research study, which employed quantitative research methods. The data were collected from 135 participants who are from SMA N 1 Lawa class XI IPA and IPS. The data collection was carried out by using an emotional intelligence questionnaire and English achievement students from report card. Researcher used simple random sampling technique in taking the sample. The data of the study was analyzed through Spearman correlation analysis of SPSS 16. The result showed that the coefficient correlation that obtained from the computation was 0.352 and categorized as moderate correlation. The result showed that there was a positive correlation between students’ emotional intelligence and their academic achievement in English language. The conclusion of this study was drawn through the result of computation which showed that the value of coefficient of correlation (r) between two variables, that was emotional intelligence as the variable X and academic achievement as the variable Y, was as moderate as that of the Spearman correlation table with 0.05 level significant. Further, the data showed that there was a moderate correlation. Therefore, it showed that the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected.]]>

<![CDATA[This research was accomplished to find out whether Bahasa Inggris textbook for Grade X fulfilled each criterion of textbook evaluation criteria based on Jahangard’s theory. The researcher used the qualitative analysis design. The data source was collected from Bahasa Inggris textbook for Grade X published by Pusat Kurikulum dan Perbukuan, Balitbang, Kemendikbud. The instrument of this study was a table of textbook evaluation criteria. The researcher collected the data by using checklist to evaluate the textbook and analyze the data shown by the checklist and make some interpretations, and finally describing the results from the assessment table. The result confirmed that only five of fourteen sub-criteria which did not be fulfilled, they are vocabulary section consists of list of words and their definition, each chapter should consist of four skills, there is a grammar presentation in each chapter and the words are correctly spelled. While the rest nine of sub-criteria were fulfilled. It was recommended to the teacher to be more critical and could cover the weaknesses of the textbook by various teaching style or find another reference outside the textbook. <![CDATA[The 2013 curriculum emphasizes a new learning process to improve the quality of the educational system in Indonesia. The 2013 curriculum comes with a new performance, which emphasizes the implementation of a scientific approach in all subjects including English. The purpose of this research is to describe the perception of English teachers on the Scientific Approach implemented on English curriculum 2013 in Kendari. The subjects of this research were 40 English teachers of Junior High School in Kendari. This research used a quantitative method with a survey approach. The data of this research were collected by using questionnaire perception that was adapted from Han Hui (2010). The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics to find out the mean score of each respondent. The perception of English teachers was analyzed based on the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective aspects. The questionnaire consists of 25 statements that were divided into four indicators; first is about the understanding of learning by using a scientific approach, second is about learning readiness by using a scientific approach, third is about the implementation of scientific approach in the learning process, and the last is the evaluation of a scientific approach in learning. The result of this research shows that English teachers have a positive perception of the Scientific Approach implemented in the 2013 curriculum. It is proven by the result of the mean scores of cognitive aspects are 3.65, the psychomotor aspect gets 3,60 of the mean score and the affective aspect get 3,28 of the mean score. Meanwhile, the overall mean score was 3,55 categorized as a very high level that indicated the English teachers have positive perception or strongly agree with the scientific approach implemented in the 2013 curriculum.]]>

<![CDATA[The aim of this research is to determine The Effect of Lyric Training Website on Students’ Listening Achievement at SMAN 1 Batauga. This research conducted using quasiexperimental research design. The sample are 26 students of XII MIA 1 which is assigned as experimental group and 26 students of XII MIA 2 which is assigned as control group. The research used simple random sampling design for taking the sample. The data of this research is collected by giving the students pre-test and post-test in the form of listening test. Then, the data is analyzed by using SPSS 16.0 using descriptive analyzed and inferential statistic. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental group is higher than the control group. In the experimental group the mean score of pre-test is 31.28 (Low) and the mean score of post-test is 60.25 (Moderate). In comparison, in the control group the mean score of pre-test is 33.07 (Low) and the mean score of post-test is 36.92 (low). The result of the independent sample t-test indicated that the value of sig. (2 tailed) is lower than the significance α value (0.000 < 0.05). In other words, H1 is accepted and it means that there is a significant effect of Lyric Training Website on Students’ Listening Achievement. Furthermore, the result of the finding also showed that Lyric Training can improve several things such as motivation and listening.]]>

<![CDATA[This research was accomplished to find out whether English textbook “When  English Rings A Bell†for Junior High  School on seventh grade fulfilled each criterion of textbook evaluation criteria. The researcher used qualitative analysis as the research design. The data source was collected from English textbook “When English Rings A Bell†for Junior High School on seventh grade. The instrument of this study was textbook evaluation criteria. The researcher collected the data by using checklist to evaluate the textbook then analyzing the data shown from the checklist and making some interpretations, and finally  describing the results from the assessment  table.  The result confirmed that English textbook “When English Rings A Bell†for Junior High School on seventh grade was categorized as inappropriate book because there were only four of fourteen sub- criteria which were fulfilled, namely the objectives were given in the beginning of the book and each chapter, the topic or materials were suitable with the objectives, there were visual materials relevant with the topic, and the instructions of the exercises were clear and easy to understand in terms of completed by examples, while the rest ten criteria were not fulfilled. It was recommended to the teacher to cover the weaknesses of the book by their teaching style or to find another reference outside this textbook. Keywords: Textbook, Evaluation Criteria]]>

<![CDATA[The objective of this research is to find out the extent of relationship between students’ attendance and their achievement in the environment of online class at English Education Department of Halu Oleo University. This research used correlational research design. The population consisted of English Education Department students of Halu Oleo University who enrolled in the third semester of 2020/2021 academic year with a total of 53 students from class A. Subject of the research taken was the whole population of 53 students from class A. The research instrument used was the data record of students’ attendance and their achievement in Psycholinguistic Course. To analyze the data, the researcher used both descriptive and inferential statistics. The result of this research reveals that: (1) Students’ attendance level is on good level with mean percentage is 88.49 (SD = 13.45); (2) Students’ level of achievement results in good level as well with mean is 83.59 (SD = 3.58); (3) The calculation of Spearman Rho Coefficient Correlation (Ï) is 0.076, the significance value is 0.310 > 0.05 (accepted α value) and Ï = 0.076 < 0.248 (critical value of Spearman Rho for N = 45), and the equivalence test results in lo_r = -0.2225 for lower bound area which is bigger than -0.7 (Δ > ΔL) and hi_r = 0.3615 in higher bound area which is less than 0.7 (Δ < ΔU). It reveals that the correlation found between students’ attendance and their achievement in online class is very weak and statistically not significant yet statistically equivalent. In conclusion, there is no meaningful relationship between students’ attendance and their achievement in online class.  ]]>

<![CDATA[The problem of vocabulary learning for the students is their ability in using words is not quite right. Another problem is the students’ acquisition of the meaning of a word still less. That is why the vocabulary mastery is needed for the students to improve their vocabulary ability. While when teacher teach vocabulary there is not enough media that they can use. Because of that reason, the purpose of this research was to know whether the use of Lyricstraining.com improve students’ vocabulary mastery at English Education Department of Halu Oleo University as the media for vocabulary learning. The subject of this research were 20 students of English education Department of Halu Oleo University who were taking vocabulary class. The method that used on this research was pre experimental with one group pre and post test. The instrument of this research was vocabulary test includes multiple choices and matching words questions. The result of this research showed the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery after the treatment. This result proved by the incerase of students’ mean score. The mean of students score before the using of Lyricstraining.com was 73.6. According to the level, it was categorized as good level. After the using of Lyricstraining.com, the mean score of the students was 82.6 and categorized as very good. It means that the mean score of the students on the pre-test and post-test was increased. Furtherrmore based on the finding, H1 was accepted because of the  Sig (2 tailed) was 0.000 which was lower than the alpha value α (0.05) or sig (2 tailed) 0.000 < 0.05. In other words the result showed the using of Lyricstraining.com improve students’ vocabulary mastery at English Education Department of Halu Oleo University.]]>
