Abstract

This study seeks to investigate students and their position and relationship with educators, as well as the noble character and ethics of students resulting from the actualization of noble values. All three are examined through the lens of Islamic education. Utilized is qualitative research conducted using a holistic-descriptive methodology. The data sources were retrieved from library records. At the level of data analysis, hermeneutic analysis is employed. The findings of this research Students are scientific subjects who cultivate their potential and form their personalities. The relationship between students and educators is not limited to knowledge partners constrained by the rules of educational institutions, but also includes partners in devotion to Allah SWT. Character is a personality shaped by the habitual realization of values through attitudes and deeds. The most admirable student personality is one shaped by attitudes and deeds that reflect divine values. The Prophet Muhammad SAW became a human prototype who taught the five divine values of faith, honesty, dependability, divine messengership, and intelligence. In the context of Islamic education in Indonesia, student ethics are absolutely predicated on five values: devotion to Allah SWT, prophethood, honor, knowledge practice, and democracy.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the integration of intellectual and spiritual dimensions in education through the perspective of Hadith Tarbawi and Humanistic Educational Psychology. The main problem addressed in this research is the imbalance of modern education, which tends to prioritize cognitive intelligence while neglecting moral and emotional values. Using a qualitative approach with a library research method, this study explores primary sources from Hadith Tarbawi related to the education of reason (‘aql) and heart (qalb), as well as secondary sources discussing the theories of humanistic psychology proposed by Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow. The findings indicate that both Hadith Tarbawi and Humanistic Educational Psychology share a similar vision of human development: the integration of intellect, emotion, and spirituality. The Hadith emphasizes purification of the soul (tazkiyah al-nafs) and moral balance, while humanistic psychology promotes empathy, freedom, and self-actualization. The integration of these two perspectives forms a comprehensive educational paradigm that nurtures intellectual excellence alongside moral and spiritual maturity. Thus, the study concludes that the balance between reason and heart is essential in shaping a holistic education system that fosters intelligent, ethical, and compassionate individuals. The findings of this study provide a conceptual contribution through an integrative mapping of tarbawi values and humanistic psychology, which may inform theoretical development and guide educators in designing learning practices that are more humanistic and value-driven.

Abstract

Islamic moral education has long been positioned as a normative and prescriptive process that emphasizes the doctrinal transmission of values. Such an approach tends to overlook the interpretive dimension and learners’ lived experiences in the process of internalizing moral values. Departing from these limitations, this article examines Ta‘lim al-Muta‘allim by al-Zarnuji as a form of lived moral pedagogy within the pesantren context, employing Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutic theory of mimesis as the analytical framework. The purpose of this study is to understand how the moral teachings contained in Ta‘lim al-Muta‘allim are not merely taught as normative texts but are internalized, mediated, and dynamically interpreted by educational actors in the pesantren. This research adopts a qualitative case study design conducted at Pesantren Buntet, Indonesia. Data collection techniques include participant observation, in-depth interviews with kiai, ustaz, and santri, and textual analysis of Ta‘lim al-Muta‘allim. The data are analyzed through Ricoeur’s three-stage mimesis framework: prefiguration, configuration, and refiguration. The findings reveal that al-Zarnuji’s moral principles function as pre-reflective ethical horizons that shape the dispositions of santri (Mimesis I), are configured into coherent pedagogical narratives through the authority and exemplarity of the kiai (Mimesis II), and are actively refigured by learners in their responses to contemporary educational challenges (Mimesis III). The implications of this study underscore that Islamic moral education should be understood as a hermeneutic-narrative praxis that integrates textual authority, pedagogical mediation, and learner agency, thereby contributing to the development of character education discourse in the modern era.

Abstract

In practice, physical education often suffers from secular reductionism, narrowly understood as the mechanization of physical activity without the intimacy of moral and spiritual values due to the influence of philosophical dualism. In response to this paradigmatic anomaly, Islam offers a holistic philosophical construction that views the body as an imperative trust from Allah SWT that must be maintained and optimized to support the mission of worship and vicegerency. This study aimed to dismantle, reconstruct, and comprehensively examine the concept of physical education from the epistemological perspective of hadith while evaluating its applied relevance in contemporary educational curricula. Using a qualitative method through library research, this study descriptively and argumentatively dissects primary and secondary sources. The results show that the prophetic Sunnah functionally classifies physical activities into cardiovascular endurance instruments (such as running and swimming) and cognitive and concentration instruments (such as archery and horseback riding). All these practices must be supported by a foundation for nutritional management and sanitation. Through the ma'anil hadith approach, the concept of a “strong believer” is proven to refer not merely to muscular brutality, but to a synergistic combination of depth of faith and readiness for physical mobility. In conclusion, the physical education curriculum must submit to the Islamic prophetic blueprint to transform mechanical movements into a fundamental method for holistic moral character building.
