Abstract

Diversity in Indonesia, apart from being unique for this country, can also give rise to conflicts that can end in war, one of the triggers is religious differences. In Bali, conflicts due to religious differences are not visible but can be felt through people's stereotyped attitudes and discrimination. Having a selective attitude towards friends since childhood is the beginning of bullying which not only hurts mental health, it can even lead to physical harm. This research aims to re-examine using qualitative research methods with library research techniques. The results of this research show that religious moderation in a pluralistic society in Bali can be implemented with the missiological role of Christian Religious Education to promote Christian values as an opportunity. PAK missiology is realized by creating a harmonious and tolerant community environment with the local cultural wisdom that exists in Balinese society.

Abstract

Christian Religious Education (PAK) plays a crucial role in shaping students’ character, particularly amid the increasingly complex digital age. This urgency arises due to the weakening of Christian character practices, reflected in various negative phenomena, such as bullying, violence among students, the fading of good manners, declining social awareness, the destructive misuse of digital media, and increasing intolerance within the school environment. This study aims to analyze the role of Christian Character Education (CCE) in shaping the character of junior high school (SMP) students using a qualitative approach through a literature review, grounded in Thomas Lickona’s character theory. The results indicate that CCE plays a significant role in shaping students’ character through three primary pathways: Bible-based instruction, the cultivation of positive attitudes in daily life, and teachers serving as moral role models. These three pathways align with the three moral dimensions proposed by Lickona, namely moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral behavior. However, there are a number of challenges that hinder the effectiveness of PAK, including a lack of role modeling within the family environment, the overwhelming influence of modern culture, and the negative impact of digital media. Therefore, strong collaboration between schools, families, and churches is needed, along with improvements in the competencies of religious education teachers, so that character education can be implemented effectively and sustainably.

Abstract

The conversion of customary land in Bali due to tourism expansion and the practice of nominee agreements by non-Balinese residents has threatened the sustainability of local communities’ ancestral land rights. Although the issue of customary land in Bali has been examined from the perspectives of agrarian law and sociology, a biblical study linking the narrative of 1 Kings 21 to the ancestral land crisis in Bali has never been conducted. This study addresses this gap by examining the theological significance of ancestral land in 1 Kings 21 and its relevance to contemporary customary land issues in Bali. The method employed is a historical-critical interpretation of the text of 1 Kings 21, followed by a comparative analysis of the socio-cultural context of Balinese society. The findings identify three meanings of ancestral land: (1) land as a symbol of ancestral identity, (2) land as a guarantee of generational continuity and kinship, and (3) land as the foundation of community well-being. These findings indicate that the theological framework of 1 Kings 21 can serve as a normative foundation for responding to the shift in the value of land from a sacred inheritance to an economic commodity, while also providing an ethical contribution to the advocacy of land rights for the indigenous people of Bali.
