Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the impact of agricultural extension workers on technology adoption and production factors in enhancing wet-rice farming in Lamoeri Village, Angata Subdistrict, South Konawe Regency. The study population consists of 180 registered rice paddy farmers who are members of 10 farmer groups affiliated with the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP). The study sample consisted of 36 individuals, which represents 20% of the population. The sampling method used was simple random sampling. Data was collected through interviews and documentation using questionnaires as instruments. The data was analyzed quantitatively using the class interval formula. The study found that agricultural extension officers in Lamoeri Village played a positive role in assisting rice paddy farmers. Their roles included facilitating, communicating, motivating, and consulting. The study also revealed that the adoption of innovations in rice paddy cultivation technology was generally successful. Extension workers have optimally carried out the stages of adoption of interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption. However, their role in the awareness stage needs improvement. The production process of paddy rice farming is influenced by natural factors, labor, facilities and infrastructure, and expertise factors. Therefore, it is crucial to always consider and prioritize these factors in order to increase farm productivity.

Abstract

The conversion of agricultural land is one of the phenomena that occurs quite often at present in the use of land. This is in accordance with economic principles, namely that activities that are considered unproductive and unprofitable are always quickly replaced by other activities that are more productive and profitable. This research aims to determine the driving factors and typology of the conversion of cocoa plantations into palm oil plantations in the Subur Valley Village. Purposive determination of research location. The population in this research is cocoa farmers who convert agricultural land into palm oil plantations in the village of iSur Valley, totaling 27 people using census techniques. The data analysis used is Multiple Logistic Regression, and Descriptive Analysis. The results of the research show that economic factors and social factors have an influence on the farmer's decision to transfer the agricultural function of Cocoa to Palm Oil. Meanwhile, technical factors do not influence the farmer's decision to transfer the agricultural function of Cocoa to Palm Oil. The typology of land use conversion from cocoa to palm oil palm plantations in Lembah Subur Village is divided into three types, namely Gradual land use change with a Sporadic pattern, Systematic land use change over an Enclave pattern, and a combination of Gradual land use using a Sporadic pattern and Systematic land use using an Enclave pattern.

Abstract

The issues encountered in maize farming activities in Komba-Komba Village can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, the knowledge and expertise of farmers in this area remain limited. Secondly, the role of farmer groups is not yet fully realised. Thirdly, the utilisation of production resources, including seeds, fertilisers and pesticides, is not optimised. The objective of this study was to ascertain the utilisation of production facilities and the function of farmer groups in maize farming activities in Komba-Komba Village, Kabangka Subdistrict, Muna Regency. The research informants were selected purposefully, with specific criteria in mind. Consequently, the research informants totaled 13 individuals, comprising farmer group administrators, specifically two farmer group leaders, two secretaries, two treasurers, six farmer group members, and the village head. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis using interview guides. This study focuses on the utilization of production facilities and the role of farmer groups in maize farming. The research employs a qualitative descriptive analysis approach to data analysis, comprising three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that farmer groups in Komba-Komba Village serve as a conduit for collaboration in maize farming activities. This is evidenced by the presence of groups that engage in joint efforts between the farmer group leaders and members during the farming process. Furthermore, the role of farmer groups has not been as effective as the function of farmer groups. In terms of production facilities, farmers in Komba-Komba Village provide these for maize farming activities, including seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, using their own capital.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of the nickel industry on social, economic, and environmental aspects in supporting the sustainability of rice farming. The study was conducted in Paku Jaya Village, Morosi District, Konawe Regency, from November to January 2024, with 15 informants. This study employs a qualitative method, with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and literature review. Data analysis utilizes the interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The objects of this study were the impacts of the nickel industry on social aspects, namely family education, agricultural technology adaptation, and farmer participation. The impacts on economic aspects were farmers' income, alternative employment opportunities, and farming productivity. Environmental aspects included irrigation water quality, air pollution, and ecosystem damage. The results of the study found that the presence of the nickel industry had a significant impact on the social, economic, and environmental aspects of rice farmers. The social impacts of the company's presence include job transitions, decreased motivation for education, and low farmer participation in sustainable agriculture programs. The economic impacts include decreased income, limited alternative employment opportunities, and reduced agricultural productivity. The environmental impacts include decreased irrigation water quality, air pollution, and ecosystem damage. The presence of the nickel industry as a whole does not support the sustainability of rice farming.
