Abstract

This research was intended to find out the effect of interaction between AB mix nutrition and tofu liquid waste in order to get the best AB mix concentration and tofu liquid waste concentration for the plant growth and cucumber plant yield (Cucumis sativa L.) hidroponically. This research took place in the Green House of Faculty of Agriculture University of Riau during July to November 2017. This research was conducted experimentally by using complete randomized factorial design (RAL) which have two factors and three replication. Factor 1 the concentration of AB mix nutrition (K), where: K1 = 0 ml, K2 = 2 ml.l-1,K3 = 4 ml.l-1 and Factor 2 the concentration of tofu liquid waste (L) with: L1 = 20%, L2 = 40%, L3 = 60%, L4 = 80%. The result showed that, the interaction of AB mix concentration and tofu liquid waste indicated non significant effect on all parameters. The single factor of AB mix indicated non significant  effect on the length and the diameter of fruits but had significant effect on other parameters. In a single factor tofu liquid waste indicated a significant effect only on the length of fruits. Therefore, the application of 4 ml.l-1 of AB mix concentration and 60% concentration of tofu liquid waste indicated the best result of plant growth and the production of the cucumber. Keywords: AB mix nutrition, tofu liquid waste, cucumber, hydroponic

Abstract

The research of "the effectiveness of test of antifungal pineapple peel extract against seed-borne fungus and the growth of red chili (Capsicum annum L.) seedlings". The research aimed to determine the effect of pineapple peel extract as antifungal in controlling red chili seed- borne fungus and its effect on germination and growth of red chili seeds. The recent research was carried out using a completely randomized design non factorial consisting of 5 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment factor is concentration of pineapple peel extract consisting of without pineapple peel extract, pineapple peel extract of 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% respectivelly. The results showed that the appropriation of several concentrations of pineapple peel extract was less effective in controlling red chili seed-borne fungi in vitro, which can be seen in the results of the observed parameters for the incidence of each pathogenic fungus in seeds and the diameter of the seed colonies. The appropriation of several concentrations of pineapple peel extract has an effect on the germination of red chili seeds in vitro, which can be seen from the results of the observation parameters that sprouts appear, but have not affected the parameters of the observation of seed germination. The appropriation of several concentrations of pineapple peel extract affected the growth of red chili seedlings in soil media, which can be seen from the results of the observation parameters of the percentage of germinated seeds, and the number of live seeds and seedlings that grew normally, but had no effect on the parameters of observation of seedling height, number of leaves seeds, plant wet weight and plant dry weight).

Abstract

The massive expansion of oil palm plantations has been widely associated with driving deforestation, necessitating accurate spatial inventories to support sustainable land management. This study aims to identify and map the spatial distribution of oil palm plantation land cover in Koto Kampar Hulu District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, by applying Sentinel-2 satellite imagery and the Random Forest machine learning classification algorithm. The classification model was developed by integrating the original multispectral bands of Sentinel-2 imagery with biophysical index transformations (NDVI, NDWI, and NDBI) to delineate five primary land cover classes: forest, oil palm plantation, settlement, road, and river. Spatial analysis results indicate that the landscape of the study area is predominantly characterized by oil palm plantation cover, encompassing an area of 22,788.56 ha, followed by forest cover at 21,427.95 ha. The Random Forest algorithm proved highly effective in detecting vegetation classes, yielding remarkably low class error rates of 4.96% for oil palm and 3.91% for forest. Variable importance evaluation revealed that Band B2 (Blue) and Band B11 (SWIR) were the most significant spectral predictors in sustaining model accuracy performance. Despite its robustness in classifying vegetation classes, the 10-meter spatial resolution of Sentinel-2 imagery resulted in a high misclassification error rate of 84.92% for small linear objects such as roads, attributable to the mixed pixel phenomenon. Overall, the integration of the Random Forest algorithm and Sentinel-2 optical imagery is strongly recommended for regional-scale oil palm plantation land cover mapping

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is Riau Province's leading plantation commodity, covering approximately 3.40 million hectares, of which smallholders manage 67.28%. During the roughly three-year immature (TBM) phase, oil palm land generates no harvest income while maintenance costs continue, reducing farmers' earnings. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of oil palm farmers in Batu Belah Village, Kampar District, in optimizing TBM land through a maize-soybean intercropping system. Activities included a partner-needs survey, extension training with field demonstration, technical mentoring, and evaluation. Results show improved farmer understanding of intercropping techniques, planting distance, and nutrient management, along with a shift in perception that companion crops do not hinder oil palm growth when shading and spacing are properly managed. Agronomically, soybean contributes nitrogen fixation through Rhizobium symbiosis, while maize root systems help improve soil structure. Supporting studies from several regions report Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) values above 1.2-1.5 for maize-soybean or maize-groundnut intercropping under immature oil palm, indicating more efficient land use than monoculture. The program also opens an additional income stream for farmers during the oil palm waiting period, strengthens institutional synergy between Politeknik Kampar and village government, and offers a model that could be replicated in other TBM areas across Riau.
