Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the morphometric and meristic characteristics of T. vittata from three populations as learning resources for the Animal Ecology course. This is a quantitative descriptive study using data collection methods involving purposive sampling from three research locations. Data analysis was performed using software through the Kruskal–Wallis test and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results showed that there were no significant differences in morphometric characteristics between populations. However, the PCA analysis showed a separation in two meristic characteristics, namely DR and CR, indicating physiological adaptation to habitat conditions. It was concluded that the morphological characteristics of T. vitatta related to environmental differences could be used as learning material for the Animal Ecology course. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze statistical data related to the biological aspects of Betta imbellis as teaching material for the Animal Ecology course. The method used was purposive sampling at two different locations. A total of 30 individuals (15 individuals per location) were captured using a traditional fish trap, then measured using a digital caliper and weighed with a digital scale. The observed parameters included morphometric, meristic, length-weight relationship, sex ratio, and condition factor. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2013 and SPSS version 22. The results showed differences in morphometric (DBL, ABL, CPD, LUCL, LMCL, LCLL) and meristic (AR) characters between populations. The growth pattern was negative allometric (b < 3). The male-to-female sex ratio was 2:1, while the condition factor ranged from 1.82–2.05 (K) and 245.76–455.70 (Wr). In conclusion, these findings provide preliminary data to support conservation efforts of wild Betta imbellis and serve as teaching material for the Animal Ecology course. Abstract

Water quality analysis plays an important role in understanding the environmental factors that affect aquatic life, especially during critical periods such as fish spawning. The purpose of this study was to investigate several aspects related to water quality and its impact on hilsa fish species during their life cycle period. The study was conducted in Sungai Bilah over a four-month period in 2023, focusing on three specialized stations to assess water quality during the peak season of hilsa fish spawning. This study uses the descriptive method, with strategic sampling locations determined through interviews with fishermen. This method is crucial for understanding the impact of water quality on fish spawning activities. The results of the water quality analysis showed that each station had an average value of Temperature 26.625 °C, Turbidity 86.033, Total Suspended Solid (TSS) 88.75, Dissolved Oxygen (DO) 6.75, Nitrate 2.50, and Phosphate 0.002. Overall, these results indicate that the water quality in the observation area is in a condition that supports the successful spawning of hilsa fish, with stable temperature and adequate dissolved oxygen levels, while other parameters such as turbidity and TSS remain within acceptable limits
