Abstract

Transportation activities at Kadu Agung Mandala Terminal have the potential to emit harmful substances that affect the respiratory health of terminal users. Therefore, there is a need for a policy to control ambient air quality to mitigate its impact on respiratory issues among terminal users. This study aims to analyze ambient air quality (SO2 and NO2), assess the level of subjective complaints related to respiratory disorders, and investigate the effects of ambient air quality on these complaints. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method, with the study population comprising terminal users. Purposive sampling was used to select 45 respondents, and measurements of ambient air quality (SO2 and NO2) were taken at three locations within the terminal. The study's results indicate that the ambient air quality parameters for SO2 (23.1 µg/Nm3) and NO2 (14.17 µg/Nm3) are still within acceptable standards. However, despite pollutant concentrations being below the quality standard, 77.1% or 34 individuals reported subjective complaints related to respiratory problems. Notably, the concentration of SO2 at 23.1 µg/m3 is associated with throat irritation, eye irritation, and coughing, while NO2 at 14.17 µg/m3 leads to throat irritation and coughing. Ambient Air Quality Control Policy is carried out by monitoring ambient air quality and carbon gas emissions, expanding the area of green open space and supervising the driving test and spot check of motorized vehicles to meet exhaust emission standards.

Abstract

In Indonesia, stunting is a serious health issue, including at the Citangkil II Community Health Center in Cilegon City. This study aims to analyze the relationship between maternal knowledge and the intake of complementary foods based on animal protein and the incidence of stunting. A case-control design was employed in this study, involving 145 mothers with toddlers aged 6-23 months. Data were collected through interviews to assess maternal nutrition knowledge and complementary food intake, as well as secondary data from measurements of children's height and length to determine stunting status. The results show that 40% of the respondents have good knowledge, and the intake of complementary foods from animal protein sources is quite high, with 33% of toddlers categorized as having good intake. The analysis reveals a significant relationship between maternal knowledge, the type and amount of complementary foods based on animal protein, and stunting (p < 0.05). This study emphasizes the importance of improving maternal nutrition knowledge and the intake of animal protein-based complementary foods in preventing stunting, thereby enhancing children's health and growth.

Abstract

CO2 emission reduction is the main instrument to promote green growth in developing countries such as Indonesia. Carbon dioxide emissions from the transportation sector are a main contributing factor. Cilegon City with its high industrial and transportation activities, as well as limited public green spaces, contributes to this. Cilegon City protocol roads include Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan S.A Tirtayasa, and Jalan Jendral Sudirman. This research aims to analyze the amount of CO2 emissions generated by motorized vehicles, analyze the absorption capacity of vegetation in absorbing CO2 emissions from motorized vehicles and proper greening planning to maximize the reduction of CO₂ emissions from motorized vehicles on the Cilegon City Protocol Road. The research method uses quantitative with a descriptive approach, some of the analysis includes energy ecological footprint analysis, vegetation absorption analysis, and greening planning. The results obtained total CO2 emissions on the Cilegon City Protocol Road amounted to 4,400.003 tons / year. There are 8,016 plants on the Cilegon City Protocol Road with a vegetation absorption capacity of 395.328 tons/year. The remaining unabsorbed emissions amounted to 4004.68 tons/year. Greening planning is carried out by adding vegetation, government policies and collaboration between the government and the community. The addition of vegetation on the Cilegon City Protocol Road is 692 plants from the addition shows the potential to increase carbon dioxide absorption by 101.43%.

Abstract

Abstract. Muhlisin, Iskandar J, Gunawan B, Cahyandito MF. 2021. Vegetation diversity and structure of urban parks in Cilegon City, Indonesia, and local residents’ perception of its function. Biodiversitas 22: 2589-2603. The existence of urban parks is very essential for cities because they provide ecosystem services and benefits to humans. Diversity and structure of vegetation in urban parks play significant role in delivering several functions of ecosystem services. This paper aims to explore and analyze the vegetation diversity and structure, as well as ecosystem services of eight urban parks in Cilegon City, Banten Province, Indonesia. Vegetation analysis and residents’ perception are also conducted in this research. The analysis of vegetation is focused on horizontal structure of vegetation, including plant diversity, plant habitus, the original distribution of the plants, and vertical structure of vegetation (canopy stratification and vegetation profile). The residents’ perceptions are collected using interviews of selected respondents. The identification of vegetation recorded 114 plant species from 46 families are found in the concerned urban parks, however, the diversity and species richness in these parks tended to be low. The vegetation communities are uncertain and dominated primarily by non-native and invasive species. The canopy stratification is relatively homogeneous with the dominant plants having less than one meter in height, such as Ruellia simplex and Syzygium paniculatum. The vegetation planted in the urban parks are mostly ornamental plants that provide much more aesthetic function rather than ecological purpose, daily human needs, or other ecosystem services. This fact shows that urban parks in the study area have only few ecosystem services, hence they need some improvements in order to have more environmental services and to be able to enjoy more by the community.
