Abstract

Academic fatigue is a condition of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion experienced by students as a result of continuous academic demands and accompanying psychological pressure. One strategy that can be applied to address this condition is psychological intervention, such as thought stopping therapy. Thought stopping is a technique used to regulate the negative thoughts that arise. This study aimed to determine whether thought stopping therapy is effective in reducing fatigue among undergraduate nursing students at the Institute of Health Sciences Payung Negeri Pekanbaru. This study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental approach and a one-group pretest–posttest design. The study population consisted of all fourth-year students at the Institute of Health Sciences Payung Negeri Pekanbaru, with a total of 22 respondents selected using a random sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that thought stopping therapy was effective in reducing fatigue among undergraduate nursing students at the Institute of Health Sciences Payung Negeri Pekanbaru, with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. These findings suggest that thought stopping therapy can be used as an alternative psychological intervention to reduce fatigue and improve student well-being.

Abstract

Nomophobia (no mobile phone phobia) is a condition of anxiety experienced by individuals when they are unable to access or use their smartphones. Among university students, excessive smartphone use can lead to various negative impacts, one of which is poor sleep quality. Inadequate sleep quality affects physical health, mental health, concentration ability, and academic performance. This condition is a particular concern for nursing students who face high academic demands and clinical practice responsibilities. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the level of nomophobia and sleep quality among undergraduate nursing students at the Institute of Health Payung Negeri Pekanbaru. A quantitative method with a correlational design and a cross-sectional approach was used. The study population consisted of 274 first-year undergraduate nursing students, with a sample of 163 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. The research instruments included the Nomophobia Questionnaire based on the study by Puswati and Sari (2021), which refers to the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q), and a sleep quality questionnaire based on the study by Juliana (2024), adapted from the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using a bivariate Chi-Square test to examine the relationship between nomophobia and sleep quality. The results showed that 74.2% of respondents experienced moderate levels of nomophobia, and 91.4% had poor sleep quality. The Chi-Square test revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between nomophobia and sleep quality among undergraduate nursing students at the Institute of Health Payung Negeri Pekanbaru. This study is expected to serve as a reference for educational institutions and students in providing education on healthy smartphone use, the dangers of nomophobia, and the importance of maintaining good sleep quality through seminars or mental health–related courses.

Abstract

Putri Ayu Public Health Center is one of the 20 health centers in Jambi City that has a significantly high number of adolescent pregnancy cases. Over the last five years (2020-2024), there were 164 cases of adolescent pregnancy. Specifically, there were 33 cases in 2020, 33 in 2021, 35 in 2022, 31 in 2023, and 32 in 2024. Among these cases, eight pregnancies involved adolescents aged 14-15 years. Therefore, a team of lecturers and students from Baiturrahim University felt the need to conduct a community service activity in the form of establishing an Adolescent Mother Class in Sungai Putri Sub-district, Jambi City, through a mini-workshop. The community service activity ran from September 2024 to February 2025. The mini-workshop and the establishment of the Adolescent Mother Class were held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the "Putri Kencana" KB Village Secretariat Post, RT 16, Sungai Putri Sub-district, Jambi City. The goal was to increase knowledge and change attitudes regarding adolescent pregnancy and its various issues, the importance of forming the class, and the eventual establishment of an Adolescent Mother Class, even a simple one. The mini-workshop was attended by 7 out of the 11 targeted adolescent mothers and was conducted for one day (3-4 hours). The materials were delivered through lectures, discussions, Q&A sessions, and experience sharing, using PowerPoint presentations displayed via a projector. A pre-test and post-test were administered before and after the mini-workshop. Following the activity, the average knowledge score increased by 1.6 points, and the attitude score increased by 5.0 points. It is concluded that the formation of the Adolescent Mother Class is highly crucial in changing the behavior (knowledge, attitude, and action) of these young mothers
