Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mechanisms and authority underlying K.H. Maimun Zubair's interpretations as reflected in Tafsir Safīnah Kallā Saya'lamūn, a work documented by his student, Ismail Al-Ascholīy. Mbah Moen's interpretations are often perceived as deeply intertwined with contextual nuances, yet the factors influencing these interpretations and the processes involved in their formulation remain insufficiently examined. This research seeks to bridge this gap by uncovering the intricate processes behind his interpretative approach, particularly concerning contemporary themes. Employing qualitative methods with a literature-based analysis, the study reveals that multifaceted dimensions, including historical and psychological contexts shape Mbah Moen's interpretations. His engagement with a conducive intellectual environment fosters a contextual interpretative framework that aligns with modern phenomena. Furthermore, his interpretations are deeply rooted in the pesantren tradition, which significantly informs his intellectual orientation. Within this framework, the authority of the Qur'an, historical narratives, and classical exegetical works remains pivotal. Nonetheless, Mbah Moen adeptly integrates modern perspectives into his interpretations, demonstrating a capacity to contextualize Qur'anic texts in ways that transcend conventional exegetical paradigms.

Abstract

This article intends to examine the form of influence of Abū Ḥayyān al-Andalusīy (d. 745 AH) on Ibn 'Aṭiyah (d. 542 AH) in his interpretive work al-Baḥr al-Muḥīṭ fī al-Tafsīr. This research uses qualitative methods through library studies using Gadamer's influence theory approach. Data sources in the article include primary sources and secondary sources. The primary data source is the main material object in the research, namely Al-Baḥru al-Muḥīṭ fī Tafsīr by Abū Ḥayān al Andalusīy and tafsir Al-Muḥarrar al-Wajīz. This article starts from an assumption that influence in a tradition of thought is a necessity that cannot be denied. Every thought is always in the shadow of certain situations and conditions which can form patterns of thinking and reading of texts, or in Gadamer's theory what is called an awareness of historical influence. This paper finds that Abū Ḥayyān's interpretation is heavily influenced by Ibn 'Aṭiyah in several aspects, ranging from methodology to substance. This conclusion came after the author traced these two interpretations and found that this influence could be seen in aspects of the use of history, language, qiraat, and Islamic law.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji konsep teologi bencana menurut pandangan KH Maimun Zubair, atau yang lebih dikenal sebagai Mbah Moen. Melalui metode kualitatif studi pustaka, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi pemikiran Mbah Moen yang dituangkan dalam kitabnya “Tsunāmīy Am Huwa ‘Aẓab aw Muṣīibah”. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa Mbah Moen melihat bencana sebagai manifestasi kekuasaan Allah yang dapat berfungsi baik sebagai rahmat maupun azab, tergantung pada respons manusia terhadap bencana tersebut. Dalam pandangannya, bencana adalah peringatan bagi manusia untuk bertaubat dan memperbaiki diri. Konsep ini dibangun berdasarkan tafsir ayat-ayat Al-Qur’an yang dikaitkan dengan kejadian-kejadian bencana alam. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pendekatan teologi bencana yang diajukan oleh Mbah Moen menawarkan perspektif yang lebih humanis dan harmonis, yang tidak menyudutkan korban bencana tetapi mendorong mereka untuk mengambil hikmah dan meningkatkan keimanan. Berbagai bencana yang menimpa manusia mengandung pesan moral antara lain sebagai tanda peringatan Tuhan, sebagai bahan evaluasi diri, tanda kekuasaan-Nya dan teguran Tuhan buat manusia supaya kembali ke jalan yang benar.

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk melihat sistem pendidikan multikultural berbasis pendidikan Islam sebagai basis menciptakan struktur sosial yang inklusif. Hal ini berangkat dari bagaimana maraknya pengkotakan sistem sosial berdasar etnis, budaya, suku, dan agama. Padahal dilain sisi Indonesia adalah negara yang majmuk dengan asas kebinekaan. Sehingga penting menicptakan pemikiran yang literal dan saling memahami untuk menciptakan nilai-nilai kehidupan yang harmonis. Usaha paling dasar untuk tujuan ini adalah dengan membentuk sistem pendidikan multikultural berbasis pendidikan Islam. Malalui pendekatan keputakaan (library research) penelitian ini menemukan bahwa pendiikan multikultural berbasis pendidikan sarat dengan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan, social, kealaman, dan ke-tuhanan. Tujuan ini berangkat dari adanya integrasi materi kurikulum, yang relevan, pendekatan, metode dan model pembelajaran yang mengedepankan paradigma keterbukaan, kebersamaan, toleransi dan saling menghormati berbagai perbedaan dan keragaman yang ada sebagai satu sunnatullah yang mesti berjalan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan melihat interaksi dan resepsi Al-Qur’an masyarakat Desa Sampung Rembang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif induktif. Model penelitian kualitatif merupakan penelitian yang mencoba menganalisis data deskriptif yangb berbentuk tulisan dan tuturan. Metode deskriptif induktif bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis data untuk mendapatkan gambaran umum atau deskripsi tentang bentuk interaksi serta resepsi al-Qur’an masyarakat Desa Sampung Rembang. Penelitian ini ingin menegaskan posisi al-Qur’an sebagai buku induk Umat Islam bisa menembus tiap lapisan masyarakat dengan segala bentuk pemaknaan yang beragam. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan sosiologi makna Karl Mannheim yang berfokus pada tiga hal, yaitu makna objektif, ekspresi, dan dokumenter. Penelitian ini setidaknya menemukan dua temuan, Pertama ditemukan beragam resepsi Al-Qur’an di Desa Sampung Rembang. Kedua, makna-makna yang dimunculkan dalam resepsi tersebut antara lain, a) Makna Objektif, hal ini ditunjukkan dari ragam interaksi dan resepsi dihasilkan karena faktor tradisi dan agama, b) Makna Eskpresif, bahwa masyarakat desa sampung merasa dan meyakini ada sebuah kedamaian berkat berkah al-Qur’an, juga sebagai wujud permohanan segala hajat, c) Makan Dokumenter diwujudkan dalam bentuk kontekualisasi yang terlihat dari sistem budaya dan perilaku masyarakat.

Abstract

The interaction between Islam and Javanese culture has not only produced a dynamic dialectic but has also often generated tension when local traditions intersect with the normative values of the Qur’an. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the Qur’an and local culture through the deconstruction of Javanese religious traditions as represented in Tafsir Al-Iklīl fī Ma‘ānī al-Tanzīl by Misbah Musthofa. Employing a qualitative method with a sociological approach to Qur’anic exegesis, this study examines how interpretation is shaped through the interrelation between the exegete and the socio-cultural context of his community. The primary data are drawn from the text of Tafsir Al-Iklīl fī Ma‘ānī al-Tanzīl, while supporting data are obtained from relevant secondary literature. The findings reveal that Tafsir Al-Iklīl represents a contextual model of Qur’anic interpretation grounded in the social reality of Javanese Muslim society. Through his critique of traditions such as tahlilan, excessive grave visitation, teacher veneration, ruwatan, and tumpengan, Misbah Musthofa emphasizes the Qur’an’s role as both a means of purifying faith and a vehicle for cultural transformation. His interpretive structure displays a deconstructive pattern in which the Qur’anic text is not merely explained literally but projected as a form of social critique against religious practices influenced by pre-Islamic elements. Misbah Musthofa establishes a hermeneutical relationship between the divine text and cultural context, producing a progressive and emancipatory model of exegesis. Although rooted in the pesantren (Islamic boarding school) tradition, his interpretation demonstrates a strong rational and moral orientation, positioning the Qur’an as a “living text” that continuously dialogues with contemporary realities. These findings indicate that the deconstruction of local culture in Tafsir Al-Iklīl constitutes a reformulation of Javanese pesantren exegesis toward a critical, reflective, and transformative socio-cultural mode of interpretation.

Abstract

The hadith narrated by Abu Bakrah, which states that “a nation that entrusts its affairs to a woman will never prosper,” has long been interpreted as a theological prohibition against women’s leadership in Islam. This interpretation persists despite significant changes in social structures and the increasing visibility of women in strategic leadership positions. This study seeks to reassess the normative status of this hadith by examining whether it represents a timeless religious injunction or a context-specific statement. Drawing on Fazlur Rahman’s double movement hermeneutics, the research employs a two-tiered analytical approach. The first movement situates the hadith within its socio-political context, particularly in relation to the aftermath of the Battle of the Camel and the decline of the Persian Empire. The second movement extracts the ethical values embedded in the hadith and reinterprets them in light of contemporary realities, emphasizing the principles of justice, merit, and public accountability. The findings indicate that the hadith was primarily a situational response to political instability rather than a categorical rejection of female leadership. Literalist interpretations tend to obscure the ethical intent of prophetic traditions and reinforce patriarchal biases that are inconsistent with the Qur’anic vision of justice and equality. This study concludes that a contextual and ethical reinterpretation of the hadith aligns more closely with Islamic moral philosophy and fosters a more inclusive theological discourse that recognizes and affirms the leadership potential of women in modern Muslim societies.
