Abstract

Google Classroom is a new application that used as an online learning media especially in English teaching learning. The objective of this research is to find out the students’ perception on the use of Google Classroom in English teaching learning at eleventh grade of Science Program at MAN 1 Kota Cirebon. Descriptive qualitative was used as the design of this research and the instrument of this research were questionnaire and interview, those were used to describe the students’ perception on the use of Google Classroom as a media in English teaching and learning. The research subject was 28 students eleventh grade of Science Program at MAN 1 Kota Cirebon. Based on the research finding and discussion, it can be concluded that students’ perception in using Google Classroom as an online learning media have positive respond, 92,9 percent of the students were agree that Google Classroom was easy to use and have good performance to used Google Classroom on English teaching and learning process because Google Classroom allow the students to save and retrieve and submit tasks or assignment, information and announcement, attendance list through Google Classroom, and students enthusiastic and interested in English teaching and learning process. In conclusion, Google Classroom is one of the best online learning media in English teaching and learning process especially pandemic period. Abstract

As one of the learning sources, textbooks play an important role in English teaching and learning process to facilitate students in knowing and obtaining teaching materials easily. Currently, the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesian revised the 2013 curriculum which is students are required to think deeply to develop their cognitive competence and to emphasize their critical thinking. The purpose of this study is to get a distribution of the Higher-order thinking skills on KTSP textbook that is still used as a reference many schools the book’s title is Developing English Competencies for grade X. The study focuses on analysing the questions using question word based on the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. The researcher used content analysis research design. Moreover, the researcher used indicator references of cognitive higher-order thinking skills in the language classroom and the table checklist used. The result of the distribution on HOTS and LOTS are as follow. There are 7 questions from 64 questions word or 10,9% (HOTS) there are 57 questions from 64 question word or 89,1% (LOTS). Hence, the distribution of HOTS reading exercises is lower than the distribution of LOTS reading exercises in Developing English Competencies Textbook. Abstract

In general, literature is a phenomenon that is expressed through words, which in particular can be presented in the form of works in the form of movie. This study aims to determine, analyze, and describe the character and personality of the main character in the movie entitled “wonder woman” by focusing on the structure of the personality of the id, ego and super ego. This research analyzes the personality of Diana Prince as a main character of the Wonder Woman movie using Sigmund Freud's theory. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research method because the data taken come from movie scripts and movie video. The results of this study are the main character named Diana Prince has an id personality which is based on innate instincts from birth, the ego structure of Diana Prince's personality in carrying out actions according to the norms applied in society. Furthermore, the super ego shown in Diana Prince with her concern for the people around her. The personality that often appears in Diana Prince is the superego that makes her a woman by making many good contributions to be a hero in saving the world.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of mind mapping techniques in teaching speaking at 7th grade IN EFL CLASSROOM IN ONE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN PABEDILAN. The object of research is only focused on the learning process, while the subject of this research is the English teacher at the school. During the learning activities carried out in 2 observations and 4 meetings. The first meeting only observed the teacher applying mind mapping in the speaking class. After the second meeting, the researcher prepared an observation checklist to find out how the teacher applied the mind mapping. The third meeting was an interview with the teacher concerned and the last meeting confirmed the results of data processing in several previous meetings while saying goodbye. This study used qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews and documentation. In the introduction, the researcher observed the teacher teaching process and then proceeded to the next meeting. Based on the data obtained from observations, it can be seen that the application of mind mapping techniques applied by English teacher so far is quite good, because the techniques used by the teacher are in accordance with the theory proposed by Buzan (2004). The results of the interviews showed that the obstacles in the learning process using mind mapping techniques were on the students themselves. Not all students have the same learning style, some are fast, medium and slow. Therefore, they often have to take different ways to understand the same information or course.

Abstract

In writing descriptive composition students still experience deficiencies, where some students still find it difficult to write. The purpose of study is to find out the students' abilities in writing descriptive composition and what that difficulties students face in writing descriptive composition in Vocational High School. This research was conducted by qualitative research using descriptive method. The subject of this research are students of class X OTKP in one of private school in Cirebon. There are 19 students in the class and researcher choses 14 students with a random technique. Furthermore, the researcher used student writing and interviews as instruments. The researcher analyzed the data, and the researcher found some finding in the field. First, it was found that the students' ability in writing descriptive compositions was at a low level. This is supported by the second finding, the results of interviews with students, namely that students' difficulties are the generic structure of descriptive composition which consists of describing objects in detail and grammar. In addition, most students have difficulty in arranging words into sentences and writing the correct spelling of words. In addition, the lack of vocabulary makes them write many repetitions of words in their writing.

Abstract

Morphology is the study of morphemes. By studying morphemes, especially derivations, it can develop our English vocabulary because it generates new word classes and meanings. The purpose of this study was to determine the process of forming derivational and inflectional affixes and the types of derivational affix functions used in song lyrics on Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” album. Researcher used 3 songs, including: Love Story, You Belong With Me and Breathe. The approach of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The instrument used was the researcher as the main instrument and document analysis as the second instrument used to collect data. The subject of this reseach is the song lyrics on Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” album. The data of this study are all data containing affixes on Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” album. The researcher found 57 affixes; 53 inflections and 4 derivations. The inflection data were 5 –s third-person singular, 15 –ed past tense, 14 –ing progressive, 3 –en past participle, 15 –s plural and 1 –er comparative. Meanwhile, the derivation data were 1 noun to adjective, 2 adjective to adverb and 1 adjective to adjective. Then, the researcher found 2 types of derivation affix functions; adjective formation and verb formation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to look into the challenges that English teachers face when teaching English in rural junior high schools in Balen, as well as the strategies they use to overcome those challenges. This study used semi-structured interviews and classroom observation to find out the answers. The study's participants were five English teachers from five rural junior high schools in Balen Bojonegoro. The study captured the perspectives of English teachers. The findings revealed five challenges that English teachers face when teaching English in rural high schools. Students' competence, students' motivation, teaching media, teacher development, an insufficient number of teachers, and parental support were the seven challenges in teaching English. As a result, the English teachers employed four strategies to deal with these challenges. These four teaching strategies included using a variety of teaching methods and techniques, matching students' levels and learning situations, collaborating with schools and parents, and encouraging students' motivation. Finally, it is hoped that the findings of this study will assist English teachers in discovering teaching strategies that are appropriate for the challenges they faced

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the forms and meaning changes of dysphemism and euphemism expression on online news text used in Indonesian-English translation. This research is a qualitative descriptive study and document analysis used as the instrument. The participant in this research was nine students of 6th semester of English Education Department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon in the academic year of 2022/2023. Data collection was collected with documents students’ translation result in translating online news text. The results showed that five euphemisms were found, namely colloquial, jargon, understatement, hyperbole, circumlocution and one for one substitutions. Meanwhile, the forms of dysphemism found were IST dysphemism (racist) and Derogatory or Disrespectful Terms Invoking Contempt for the Character Intended. This research also shows that euphemism and dysphemism experienced meaning changes. Keywords: dysphemism; euphemism; translation;

Abstract

Listening requires creativity in the learning process because speech from speakers will influence and be recorded directly into the human brain of terms, but not all humans can immediately recall what has been heard with various causal factors. This present research was aimed to find the types of listening song using Minefields’ song in Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon. This research employed descriptive qualitative research from the students assumptions. The reasercher arrange the datainto classes according to certain criteria for better analysis.Two instruments were used including: questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire was distributed to 20 students from 4 and 8 semester. And from 20 participants reasercher chose 6 students randomly were involved in the interview. The results showed that most of students listening types is extensive. Which means they are focus on listening continuously, managing large amounts of listening input. Learner listens to longer extracts and performs meaning content tasks. Most of participants said Minefields song can increase the their listening ability. Minefields song has vocabulary to improve listening skill while the students hearing minefields song. It consists of song inside the story as well as equipped with Interview.
