Abstract

The year 2020 was "political battle" year for the City of Surabaya with the election of mayor and deputy mayor on December 9, 2020. The election of the mayor and deputy mayor of Surabaya 2020 is very interesting to study because of the election of two potential candidates from the coalition of major parties in Surabaya. Candidate number one Ery Cahyadi and Armuji was to challenge candidate number two Machfud Arifin and Mujiaman. Even though technology has advanced so much, billboard is still used today for political campaign media. Billboard is able to attract the attention of the general public, especilaay for the road users. This study aims to find out the meaning of message conveyed in the billboards as the medium for political campaign from the candidates of mayor and deputy mayor of Surabaya 2020. This research is based on Roland Barthes' semiotic theory using qualitative descriptive research. Data was collected during November 2020 through the documentation of billboards on the Surabaya City main roads and made observations on two billboards based on Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The semiotics that emerged in the campaigns of the two candidates have found a relationship between the signifier and the signified that clearly explains the denomination order, then there is also an interaction between the sign and the reader's emotional feelings, as well as cultural values that lead to a connotative order so that a separate meaning is found in the text in each ad version. The protrusion of signs and pictures shows the performance, existence, competence, relations, and concern of the candidates for mayor and deputy mayor of Surabaya.

Abstract

This study examines how the sociopolitical reality of the “17+8 People’s Demands” Movement was constructed in the online media Kompas.com (September 1-6, 2025) following the #IndonesiaGelap action, using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The results of the study show: (1) In the text dimension, there was a transformation from the us-versus-the-polarization strategy of civil society to the state’s taming of paternalistic discourse, culminating in a quantification strategy; (2) In the social cognition dimension, Kompas.com’s gatekeeping lies between the commodification of celebrity value and the press’s ideological commitment as a watchdog; (3) In the social context dimension, a defense-segmentation strategy was identified among the ruling elite. During the legitimacy crisis, the legislature offered cosmetic procedural compromises to calm the masses, while the executive and security apparatus passively maintained hegemony. This study concludes that although legal and bureaucratic language is reproduced as the state's ideological communication apparatus to tame social unrest, the Kompas.com newsroom has successfully emerged as an arena for discursive negotiation that upholds public accountability within Indonesia's process of cyber-democratization.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) strategies applied by the Customer Retention Unit of PT Global Surya Medika Surabaya to achieve customer loyalty. The research is based on the concepts of Financial Benefit, Social Benefit, and Structural Tie as proposed by Kotler and Keller. This study uses a case study approach with qualitative methods through interviews, observations, and literature review. The results of this study show how PT Global Surya Medika implements CRM to retain customers. Financial Benefit, Social Benefit, and Structural Tie are forms of CRM implementation at PT Global Surya Medika in maintaining customer relationships by combining the communication capabilities of Public Relations and Marketing with technology. It starts with identifying customers through Repeat Purchase, Rejecting Competitors, and Word of Mouth. The types of customer loyalty obtained by PT Global Surya Medika are weak loyalty and premium loyalty. Premium loyalty is a very high level of customer loyalty, where customers are not only loyal but become enthusiastic fans who are hard to tempt by competitors and are even willing to pay more. Weak loyalty is a superficial level of loyalty, where customers keep purchasing not out of brand love but due to convenience, lower price, or availability. The company then differentiates customers based on existing customer data, interacts through various intermediary platforms and direct communication, and continuously modifies health equipment service offerings and updates medical devices within a certain time frame according to health procedures to match customer needs.
