Abstract

This research aims to describe the challenges and efforts of educational institutions in developing an academic culture of interest in reading in their students. This research uses a qualitative approach with the case study method as a strategy of inquiry. The focus and subjects of the research were among madrasa heads, teachers, and students at three State Madrasah Aliyahs in Jambi City. Primary data was collected by distributing questionnaires, in-depth interviews and observations. Meanwhile, secondary data was collected through extensive document study. This research shows that the academic and cultural challenges of interest in reading in the three state aliyah madrasahs in Jambi City are almost the same, namely the lack of monitoring of reading habits in the madrasah arena. Even though madrasas face challenges, efforts to develop an academic culture of interest in reading continue to be carried out in each madrasa in Jambi City.

Abstract

Perpustakaan pesantren berperan sebagai pusat sumber belajar yang mendukung proses pendidikan, penguatan literasi, dan pembudayaan membaca. Namun, sebagian besar perpustakaan pesantren di Kota Jambi masih dikelola secara manual dengan keterbatasan sumber daya manusia serta rendahnya pemanfaatan teknologi informasi. Penelitian pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kualitas pengelolaan perpustakaan pesantren melalui pelatihan penerapan Senayan Library Management System (SLiMS). Metode pelaksanaan meliputi asesmen awal, penyampaian materi, praktik langsung, pendampingan teknis, serta evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan kompetensi pengelola perpustakaan dalam pengolahan koleksi, layanan sirkulasi, dan penyusunan laporan berbasis digital. Implementasi SLiMS terbukti mendukung efisiensi layanan serta berkontribusi pada penguatan literasi digital di lingkungan pesantren.Kata kunci: perpustakaan pesantren; manajemen perpustakaan; otomasi perpustakaan; SLiMS; pengabdian masyarakat.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the Library and Archives Office of Sungai Penuh City in improving the quality of community education and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in carrying out this role. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of the head of the office, librarians, and community members as library users. The data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the library has played a fairly good role in improving the quality of community education through the provision of information access, library services, and supporting facilities and infrastructure. Supporting factors in the implementation of the library’s role include the availability of library collections, adequate library services, supporting facilities and infrastructure, and information technology-based services. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors include limited budget, limited competent human resources, low public reading interest, limited and outdated collections in certain fields, and the suboptimal use of information technology, especially in the collection search system (Online Public Access Catalog/OPAC). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the role of the library in improving the quality of community education has been carried out fairly well, although it has not yet been optimal. Therefore, improvements are needed in collection development, optimization of technology-based services, and enhancement of human resource competencies so that libraries can better support the improvement of the quality of community education in a sustainable manner
