Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of classical guidance using the Problem Based Learning approach in improving critical reasoning skills of class VIII students of SMP 37 Medan. The research method used is quantitative experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects of the study consisted of 60 students divided into an experimental group (30 students) and a control group (30 students). The experimental group was given treatment in the form of classical guidance with the Problem Based Learning approach, while the control group was only given ordinary classical guidance. Data collection used a Likert scale questionnaire. The results showed a significant increase in critical reasoning skills in the experimental group with an average pretest score of 85.13 (moderate category) to 124.3 (very high category) on the posttest. While in the control group there was an increase from an average of 85.06 (moderate) to 120.53 (high). The Wilcoxon and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p <0.05). It is concluded that classical guidance with the Problem Based Learning approach is effective in improving students' critical reasoning ability in learning.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine whether the Kepong Guidance Center's group counseling sessions were successful in improving the self-efficacy of third-grade elementary school children. A person's self-efficacy can be defined as their confidence in their own ability to complete tasks or face challenging situations. Using a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design, this study employed quantitative methods. The research population consisted of ten third-grade students, aged between eight and nine years old, who participated in the Kepong Guidance Center’s counseling group during the 2024–2025 academic year. A saturated sampling method, or total population sampling, was used in the sampling process. The research instrument was adapted to suit the specific characteristics of elementary school students and utilized a validated self-efficacy scale. For this study, a paired sample t-test was used to compare the participants' levels of self-efficacy before and after participating in the support group. According to the data, students’ self-efficacy significantly increased after attending the counseling group (t-value = 8.456; p < 0.05). The average self-efficacy score increased substantially, from a low of 45.2 to a high of 68.8. These results suggest that elementary school students can benefit from group counseling as an alternative intervention to traditional counseling and guidance programs, as group counseling has proven effective in enhancing students' self-efficacy.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of classical guidance services in improving students’ learning motivation at the Sanggar Bimbingan Kampung Bharu, Malaysia. The research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The study involved 10 students who participated in the classical guidance sessions. The instrument used was a learning motivation questionnaire based on a Likert scale. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample t-test to examine differences in scores before and after the intervention. The results showed an increase in the average learning motivation score from 30.2 on the pretest to 36.8 on the posttest, with a mean difference of 6.6 points. The statistical test results indicated that the calculated t-value (12.69) was greater than the critical t-value (2.262) at a 0.05 significance level, meaning there was a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. This finding demonstrates that classical guidance services are effective in enhancing students’ learning motivation. Through structured and interactive guidance activities, students were able to recognize their potential, foster enthusiasm for learning, and develop learning independence. Therefore, classical guidance services have proven to be an effective strategy to be implemented in non-formal educational institutions to foster students’ learning motivation. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for counselors and educators in developing guidance programs in non-formal institutions, especially for Indonesian children studying abroad. These findings highlight the importance of structured classical guidance in strengthening students’ internal learning drive, an aspect that deserves further attention in non-formal educational settings.

Abstract

The study aims to find out the effectiveness of peer counselling services to prevent attitudes towards early marriage of students of 9th grade MTS Riyadhus Sholihin Sunggal. The research method used is experimental. In this study the researchers used the Pre Experimental research model using One Group Pre Test – Post Test Design. As to the data collection techniques used are (1) document analysis, namely list of names, number of students of class IX MTS Riyadhus Sholihi Sunggal and photo documentation of the research. (2) The test method used in this study is the filling of angket. (3) Observation, from the results of the analysis of data of counselling services for prevention of early marriage attitudes in students using the statistical analysis technique t-test, obtained t_count as 5.542 while the size of the number on the table of value t for one-party test (one tail test) with a degree of significance of 0.05 (5%) at d.b N-1= 9 is 1.833. Therefore, the result of the data analysis of 5,542 is above the limit of rejection of the zero hypothesis which is large 1,833 (t_count > t_table), so this study is significant.
