Abstract

Indonesia has a high accumulation of patient visits to the Emergency Room (ER), thus caring in the ER requires more attention to produce better quality nursing services. This study aims to see the effect of nurses' motivation and workload on caring behavior in the ER. The research method used is quantitative, with a correlation analytic research design and a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 37 nurse and patient respondents using accidental sampling techniques. The instrument used was the Gadar Caring Scale (GCS-46) questionnaire with frequency distribution data analysis and the Spearman Rank statistical test. The results showed that more than half of the nurses' motivation (56,76%) was in a good category and almost half of the nurses' workload was in the heavy category (40.54%). On the other hand, the level of nurses' caring was almost entirely in the moderate category (94.59%). In addition, there was a correlation between nurse’s motivation and caring as indicated by the correlation coefficient (r) and p-value of 0.55 and 0.0237, respectively. Meanwhile, the results of the analysis between nurses' workload and caring gave r and p-values of 0.11 and 0.5121, respectively, indicating that there was no relationship between nurses' workload and nurses' caring in the ER.

Abstract

Caring behavior is a very important aspect of nurse practice, because through this behavior nurses can show care, empathy, and concern for patients. Nurses' caring behavior not only has an impact on patient satisfaction, but also on faster patient recovery, adherence to care, and improved treatment outcomes. There are several factors that influence caring behavior, including nurse characteristics, rewards, personality type and work motivation. This study aims to analyze factors associated with caring behavior in nurses. The research design used descriptive correlation with a cross sectional approach to 56 nurses in the inpatient room with a sampling technique using proportionate random sampling. The characteristics of nurses consisted of age, gender, length of service, education level and marital status. The instrument to measure caring behavior uses the Caring Behavior Inventory (CBI-24), while the Eysenck personality inventory contains 24 question items to measure personality type. The results showed that length of work (p=0.015) and work motivation (p=0.015) had a significant relationship with caring behavior, while age (p=0.507), gender (p=0.634), marital status (p=0.146), education (p=0.244), employee status (p=0.529), reward (p=0.737) and personality type (p=0.152) were not related to caring behavior. These results indicate that the longer the nurse works and has high work motivation, the better the nurse's caring behavior will be. Therefore, there is a need for a preceptorship program for new nurses and efforts to increase nurses' work motivation through strategies that support their intrinsic needs and professionalism, especially caring behavior.

Abstract

Burnout is physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion experienced by nurses due to prolonged work stress.  This condition has a negative impact on the quality of health services, increases the risk of work errors, and reduces the efficiency of patient care. There are several factors that influence the occurrence of burnout in nurses, including nurse characteristics, family support, and workload. The purpose of this study is to Analysis of Factors Related to Burnout Among Nurses in Inpatient Rooms. This study uses a quantitative descriptive research design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 68 practicing nurses will participate in this study. The research instrument used a questionnaire consisting of a questionnaire on nurse characteristics (age, gender, length of service, education level, marital status, and employment status), a questionnaire on family support, workload, and burnout in nurses. Data analysis will use frequency distribution, chi-square, and multiple linear regression tests. The results show that age (p=0.038), education level (p=0.040), and workload (p=0.025) are significantly related to burnout in nurses, while gender (p=0.808), length of service (p=0.24), marital status (p=0.235), and family support (p=302) were not associated with burnout among nurse. These results indicate that young nurses, have a high level of education and a high workload are more likely to experience burnout. Therefore, there is a need for routine monitoring of stress and burnout levels among nurses, especially among young and newly employed nurses. Additionally, there is a need for stress management training, psychosocial support, and counseling rooms for nurses who show symptoms of fatigue or burnout.
