Abstract

Research has been carried out on the effect of the guided inquiry learning model on the critical thinking skills of VIII grade junior high school students on the subject of vibrations, waves, and sounds at SMP Negeri 27 Banjarmasin. This study aims to describe the effect of the guided inquiry learning model on the critical thinking skills of eighth-grade junior high school students on the subject of vibration, waves, and sound. The type of research used in this research is the preexperimental method with the experimental design of The One Group Pretest Posttest. The research subjects in this study were conducted using random sampling. The research subjects in this study were class VIII E as many as 33 people in the experimental class. The data collection technique used the test technique. The data analysis technique uses the t-test to analyze the effect of the guided inquiry learning model on students' critical thinking skills. From the results of the t-test, the value of students' critical thinking skills was obtained with sig (0.000) < α = 0.05, meaning that there was a difference between the pretest and posttest results of students' critical thinking skills using the guided inquiry learning model. The research results show that the guided inquiry learning model influences students' critical thinking skills so this learning model can be used as an alternative learning model in schools to improve student's critical thinking skills.

Abstract

A research was conducted on students' critical thinking skills in science learning in SMP. This study aims to determine the differences in the critical thinking skills of students who learn with the brainstorming method in class VII students of SMP Negeri 6 Banjarmasin in the 2018/2019 academic year. This study used a quasi-experimental method using a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The sample of the study was class VII A students consisting of 30 students as the experimental class and class VII G students consisting of 30 students as the control class. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. Data collection techniques using test techniques. The data analysis technique used the t-test to analyze differences in the critical thinking skills of students in the experimental and control classes, and descriptive analysis to describe the differences in the level of critical thinking skills between students who used the brainstorming and expository methods. The result showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class as indicated by the results of the t-test from the price Tcount > Ttable (2,41 > 2) and there was a difference in critical thinking skills between the experimental class and the control class as indicated by the percentage value, posttest experimental class namely 82,08% and control class 71,38%.Keywords: Brainstorming, Expository, Critical Thinking, Science

Abstract

AbstractIndonesian society can easily access information and media through the internet. One of the animation video media easily accessible to all segments of Indonesian society is Japanese Animation, known as Anime. Anime has various interesting stories, one of which is Hataraku Saibou, which tells the activities of cells in the human body in the form of a narrative. This raises the question of whether anime with themes depicting the lives of working cell characters in the body can be used as a learning media for students to understand the explanation of cell activities in the body in a narrative form in the anime. Research has been conducted on the Hataraku Saibou Anime among the general public. It is said that this anime effectively increases public understanding of the human body system. However, there has been no study on the effectiveness of this anime when used in the learning process for students. Therefore, a study was conducted on Hataraku Saibou Anime, with the research objective of determining the effectiveness of the animation media of Hataraku Saibou anime. The research method used a Non-equivalent Control Group Design, an experimental class research with the treatment of watching Hataraku Saibou anime, and the control class with PowerPoint learning selected under certain conditions. Data was collected using pre-test and post-test question evaluation with validated RPP Instruments. The research results, analyzed by comparing the improvement of experimental and control class scores, were calculated using hypothesis testing with SPSS 21. It was found that using the t-test, the value obtained was 2.087 with a significance of 0.000. The critical value (t-crit) is 1.986. So it can be concluded that t-value is greater than t-crit (2.087 > 1.986). From this result, it can be concluded that the animation media of Hataraku Saibou anime is effective in the material of cells in the bloodstream and immune system.

Abstract

The low degree of scientific literacy in Indonesia serves as the driving force for this research. As a result, efforts are being made to conduct research and develop scientific literacy-based science teaching resources. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of scientific literacy-based science teaching materials on plant reproduction in academic settings. The process of research and development (R&D) employs a modified Four D (4D) paradigm. This research process consists of three stages: definition, design, and development. Three academic validators are included regarding the topic of this study and advancement. The scores from the product validation questionnaire are a category of numerical information obtained. In this research and development, literacy-based science teaching materials on plant reproduction were validated by expert validators to ensure that the produced products are truly valid. According to the expert validator assessment results, the scientific literacy part of the instructional material product had a validation result of 3.58 with a percentage of 89%, while the overall product received an average of 3.58. Therefore, it can be said that the instructional materials that have been generated are reliable and appropriate for use in the educational process.

Abstract

This research investigates how effective the Talking Chips type of cooperative learning model is in enhancing students' ability to communicate scientifically, particularly in the excretory system topic. A quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group format was employed. The control group received instruction through traditional teaching methods, whereas the experimental group implemented the Talking Chips strategy. The study involved 60 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 13 Banjarmasin as participants. Research tools included observation forms, surveys, and both pretests and posttests. The data were examined using qualitative descriptive analysis along with the Independent Sample T-Test. The results showed: (1) the experimental group achieved a scientific communication score of 61.15 (moderate level), while the control group scored only 47.09 (low level); (2) a significant difference in scientific communication skills existed between the two groups; and (3) learning outcomes also differed significantly between them. The N-Gain score for the control group was 0.55, indicating moderate improvement, while the experimental group reached 0.77, classified as a high level of improvement. These findings suggest that applying the Talking Chips cooperative learning model effectively enhances students’ scientific communication skills when learning about the excretory system.
