Abstract

Octopus is a mollusk which has high economic value. Ketapang Beach in East Lombok Regency is one of the octopus landing locations, so it is necessary to know the current conditions of the biological dimensions of octopuses, such as growth patterns, body shape, age group, catchability and spawning for sustainable octopus management. The purpose of this study was to find out the current condition of the octopus fishery sector, especially the biological dimension. The research uses a descriptive survey method, data and information comes from a population sample to describe objects according to actual conditions, then processed using regression. The research results stated that the growth pattern of octopuses landed on Ketapang Beach was negative allometric, where the b value was 5.161 (b>3), where the weight growth was greater than the increase in body length. The age group values at the location are dominated by octopuses of the adult age group with the highest coat length value > 12 cm with 38 individuals, and supported by 45 mature octopuses of which 38 individuals (76%) have PM > 12 cm, and 7 individuals (14 %) have PM 9 – 11 cm

Abstract

The potential for coastal resources in the Sekotong region, West Nusa Tenggara is very large both from an ecological and economic perspective. Various types of aquatic biota, both macroorganisms and microorganisms such as phytoplankton, can be found in this area. Phytoplankton can generally be used as a bioindicator to monitor water conditions, pollution and eutrophication. This research aims to determine the composition of the abundance and community of phytoplankton in the Sekotong coastal area. This research was carried out in January 2023 using a descriptive method, namely taking and measuring samples in the field and then describing the results. The highest phytoplankton abundance results obtained were 8640 cells/l, which is included in the oligotrophic or low category. Meanwhile, the phytoplankton composition found consisted of Chrysophyta and Cyanophyta. The results of the dominance index range from 0.19 to 0.34, which means low dominance, while the diversity index ranges from 0.91 to 1.71, which means moderate diversity. Water quality conditions show normal water values. So in general, the condition of the phytoplankton community in the Sekotong Beach area is still in the normal category with low abundance.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of different salinity levels on the growth and survival rate of Amphipoda (Phronima sp.) cultured under low-salinity conditions and to identify the most optimal salinity level for cultivation. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four salinity treatments, namely 15 ppt, 10 ppt, 5 ppt, and 0 ppt, with four replications each. Parameters observed included egg production, number of juveniles, population density, survival rate (SR), proximate analysis, and water quality. The results showed that salinity differences significantly affected the growth and survival of Phronima sp. The 15 ppt treatment produced the best results in terms of egg production, juvenile number, population density, and survival rate, while the 0 ppt treatment showed the lowest values for most observed parameters. The survival rate during the maintenance period ranged from 60.8% to 86.1%, with the highest value obtained at 15 ppt salinity. Proximate analysis also revealed that the 15 ppt treatment had higher protein and lipid contents compared to the other treatments. During the culture period, water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, ammonia, and phosphate remained within suitable ranges to support the growth and survival of the organisms. Based on the results, a salinity level of 15 ppt was considered the most optimal condition for culturing Phronima sp. under low-salinity conditions and has potential as an alternative natural feed source in aquaculture.
