Abstract

Mathematics is a vital discipline, yet it is often considered complicated by students. This results in their low mathematical understanding, which is very important in learning mathematics to solve problems more easily and relate the concepts understood. “This study used a class action research method (PTK) on students of class XI IPA-3 SMA Negeri 2 Medan in the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 36 people. In this study, data were collected through observation sheets, learning outcome tests, and documentation to evaluate the mathematical understanding ability of students in class XI-IPA 3 at SMA Negeri 2 Medan. The results showed a significant improvement after the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model, as seen from the results of the initial ability test, cycle I test, and cycle II test”.

Abstract

Abstract A good understanding of mathematical concepts is of course not only intended for children in areas with a high level of education but also in areas with a low level of education such as areas on the banks of the Deli River. This area still has a minimal level of education, so understanding of mathematical concepts in that environment is still relatively low and there are still many children who are blind to basic mathematics such as mathematical calculation operations. The purpose of this analysis is to optimize children's understanding of mathematical concepts at SASUDE with the help of the mathematics teaching aids corner (POLAGATIK). This activity was carried out at Sanggar Sungai Deli, Kec. Medan Maimun, Medan City, North Sumatra. Participants in this activity are children aged 7-13 years. This activity uses a community education method with four main steps: preparation, implementation, monitoring and assessment. The results show an increase in children's understanding of mathematical concepts from Pre-test to Post-test by 72%. This activity ran smoothly and received positive responses from the child participants. Keywords: understanding mathematical concepts; props; POLAGATIK; SASUDE
