Abstract

Abstract

Ruminant productivity is influenced by the quality and quantity of forage. Forage plant that is prospectively developed is Indigofera which has advantages such as high nutrient content, low crude fiber, being able to live in dry areas, and low anti-nutrient. However, as an innovation, adoption, cultivation, and utilization in a sustainable manner depend on several factors. This study was aimed to investigate the potential adoption of Indigofera forage in West Manggarai Regency with a focus on the factors that influence adoption. Data were collected through observations, individual interviews, Focus Group Discussions and study of documents. The number of respondent’s farmers was 59 from seven villages in five sub-districts. The results showed that in terms of the respondent’s characteristic factors, 96.61% were in the productive age, 94.7% had a formal education background, a sufficient number of a household member and a good perception of the Indigofera. From the socioeconomic condition factor, there are introductions of innovations through different patterns involving different actors with different results which can be used as an introduction model. From the characteristic factor, Indigofera forage has higher nutritional content compared to other popular forages, easy to live in the dry land, the process of breeding and cultivation is not difficult for the profession of farmers and has proven the results of development in other regions in Indonesia. Based on the facts and analysis, it was concluded that the Indigofera plant has the potential to be widely adopted and used by farmers in the West Manggarai Regency.

Abstract

Utiliztion of dryland and bareground in urban area is an opportunity as well challenge. One of the importat factors for land uses decician is evaluation of land capability and suitability. In agriculture, one of the causing of land degradation is unsuitable land uses. Therefore, PT. Angkasa Pura El Tari Int. Airport Kupang colaburated with academitients to conduct land evaluation at one of unmanaged land in urban area. This survey was conducted on the land of 10,078 Ha at Lasiana, Kupang city, East NusaTenggara Timur. The methods comprised of stated of aims, planning (overlay maps from ArcGIS 10,3), ground survey, data analysis (erosion prediction by USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) method, data compilation and presentation. The results provided two land units that considered in class III of land capability with limiting factors (soil depth, erosion level, soil fertility, drainase, and stony). Therefore there are some recommendations for land management, such as increasing soil depth by adding some soils, growing annual crops, forest trees, nursery, grassing combination with countering and terrasering on the land with high slope, tillage system, and organic matter amandement. Due to the location is in the urban areas (Kupang city), it is suggested to apply urban forest or urban farming development using multifunctional land uses approach, functioning for agriculture, natural conservation, social activities, education and agrotourism.

Abstract

Community service organized by Politani in the form of a Tailor-made Training (TMT) was conducted from 6th to 13th of October 2019 in Soe city and Noinbilla village, South Central Timor Regency (TTS). The aim of this training was to give a clear perspective and profound comprehension about inclusive participatory approaches on climate adaptation and mitigation especially for farmers which could subsequently assist them in establishing a smarter-climate agriculture that is more resilient to climate change. The program was divided into two major sessions: 1) In-door training; where the participants were given interactive-based theoretical training about the topic and 2) Study Filed Trip; where they visited several vegetational areas in order to further practised what they have learned from the previous session. Evaluation showed that almost all of the participants attending the program have had a clear understanding on the basic principles of smart-climate agriculture and how they are going to apply the participatory approaches for establishing and strengthening partnership form multi-sectoral perspectives in order to achieve a more climate-resilient agriculture yet still productive.

Abstract

A tailor-made training (TMT) assembled by both Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Kupang (Politani Kupang) and Van Hall Larenstein of Applied Sciences, Netherlands (VHL) was conducted from the 9th to 13th November 2020. This training focused on the importance of establishing, maintaining, and broadening partnerships for a better institutional development. As many as 19 participants were invited to attend the training and were assigned into five groups based on the five prioritized commodities the institution was planning to expand further, which were: meat/beef, coffee, honey, shallot, and catfish. The training was organized through both online and offline methods. The online method implemented both an asynchronous pathway, in which all the materials were posted through Google Classroom and Whatsapp group, and an asynchronous pathway, in which the teaching-learning process was organized via ZOOM. For the in-person method, the participantswere taken to a field trip. By the end of the training, all the participants had understood the concepts of partnerships and their importance, how to construct and differ between a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Contract, how to achieve cultural awareness for a fruitful partnership, and how to outline a business plan and demonstrate a 3-minute pitch to be implemented on potential business partners during the field trip.
