Abstract

Power factor is a critical parameter in industrial power systems, affecting the efficiency of electrical energy use. A low power factor due to the dominance of inductive loads can lead to increased current, power losses, reduced voltage quality, and wasted distribution equipment capacity. This study aims to analyze the need for a capacitor bank in the Motor Control Center (MCC) 200 at PT. Ecogreen Oleochemicals Batam to improve the system's power factor. The research method involved measuring electrical parameters, analyzing reactive power, and calculating the capacitor bank requirement based on actual load conditions. The results showed that an initial power factor of 0.78 could be increased to 0.95 with the installation of a 150 kVAR capacitor bank. The implementation of the capacitor bank reduced the system current by 17.96% and reduced reactive power by 58.98%. The results demonstrate that the installation of a capacitor bank is effective in improving the efficiency of the power distribution system and supporting energy conservation in industrial environments.

Abstract

Generators are backup power sources that play a crucial role in maintaining a building's continuous electricity supply during disruptions to the main grid. Frequency stability is one of the parameters determining the quality of generator operation. This study aims to analyze the effect of load fluctuations on the frequency stability of building generators using a power system simulation method. Load variations were conducted at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the generator's capacity. Observed parameters included system frequency, frequency deviation, and governor response to load changes. The results showed that increasing the load caused the generator frequency to decrease from 49.95 Hz to 49.50 Hz, while the frequency deviation increased from 0.05 Hz to 0.50 Hz. However, all frequency values remained within the permissible operating tolerance limits of 49.5–50.5 Hz. The results indicate that the governor is capable of maintaining frequency stability, allowing the generator to operate reliably under various load conditions.

Abstract

The abstract should be written as a the three-phase induction motor in a block ice factory compressor has a high starting current, which can cause voltage drops and disruptions in the electrical power system. This study aims to analyze the starting current of the compressor motor using the Star-Delta method with the aid of ETAP software. The research method involved collecting technical data on the motor, transformer, and electrical distribution system, followed by conducting Motor Acceleration Analysis simulations in ETAP. The results show that the Star-Delta method is able to reduce the starting current compared to the Direct On Line (DOL) method, resulting in more stable system voltage and reduced disruptions in the distribution network. Furthermore, switching from a Star to Delta connection results in momentary current surges that remain within safe limits according to electrical power system standards. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of the Star-Delta method in improving the reliability of the electrical system in a block ice factory.

Abstract

PT. Sentana Multi Makmur (PT. SMM) is a manufacturing industry that uses large amounts of inductive loads, causing the power factor value to become low and increasing the need for reactive power. This research aims to analyze the effect of installing capacitor banks on improving the power factor in the electric power distribution system at PT. SMM. The research method was carried out through field observations, direct measurements using a clamp meter, and data analysis using the power triangle approach. The research results show that installing a capacitor bank with a capacity of 500 kVAR can increase the average power factor from 0.80 to 0.943, reduce reactive power by 500 kVAR, reduce load current by 14.9%, and reduce apparent power by 238.02 kVA. In addition, the available transformer capacity increases so that the electricity system becomes more efficient, reliable and meets PLN's minimum power factor standard of 0.85.
