Abstract

This study evaluates a mindfulness program integrated into the English for Academic Communication (EAC) course at Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar, aimed at enhancing students' academic communication skills and emotional well-being. Guided by the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) evaluation model, the research examines how mindfulness practices support learner development in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context. A qualitative design was employed, incorporating document analysis, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews with 60 students across two classes and one course lecturer. Thematic analysis generated findings across all four CIPP dimensions. In terms of context, the program aligned well with both institutional goals and students' emotional and academic needs. Regarding input, available resources and instructor preparation were deemed sufficient to support effective delivery. At the process level, implementation was carried out consistently, though limited class time and varied student participation were noted as challenges. In terms of product, students reported improvements in emotional regulation, academic confidence, and self-awareness; reflective journaling and guided mindfulness exercises were identified as particularly beneficial in fostering metacognitive awareness. Overall, the findings suggest positive perceived effects on students' ability to manage anxiety and apply communication strategies in academic settings. The study concludes that embedding mindfulness-based, student-centered approaches within language instruction promotes both academic competence and emotional resilience. Future iterations of the program are recommended to incorporate more interactive, technology-supported mindfulness tools to sustain engagement and address diverse learner needs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the Sĕrat Primbon Palintangan Palinḍon Pakĕdutan (Add.12311) as a form of the Javanese people’s collective memory of disasters and reconstruct the culture-based disaster mitigation potential contained within it. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method using Maurice Halbwachs’ collective memory approach. The primary data source is the manuscript Sĕrat Primbon Palintangan Palinḍon Pakĕdutan (Add.12311) from the British Library collection, analyzed through literature review and qualitative content analysis. The results indicate that earthquakes in the Palindon text are understood not only as natural phenomena but also as indicators of social, health, economic, and environmental changes. Experiences regarding social conflict, food crises, disease outbreaks, population displacement, and ecological vulnerabilities are organized as collective memory passed down through Javanese written traditions. This study also found the existence of culture-based disaster mitigation awareness, manifested in vigilance toward environmental changes, the strengthening of social solidarity, preparedness for food and health crises, and the maintenance of socio-ecological balance in the face of crisis situations. Thus, the Palindon texts serve as a medium for transmitting traditional disaster knowledge that remains relevant for strengthening culture-based disaster mitigation in contemporary society.

Abstract

Abstract

The emergence of the term “Japanese First” in public media discourse can be traced to the second quarter of 2025, based on documented reports and news coverage collected during the data compilation period. This study conducts a comparative analysis of political representations of the Japanese First issues by contrasting coverage in the English-language press and Indonesian-language press on online discourses. Drawing on a corpus-driven investigation of 45 news articles published in online discourses from July to September 2025, we disseminate how different news agencies represent, legitimise, and stigmatise the Japanese First issues.  This study utilises a mixed method consisting of quantitative analysis to provide statistical analysis for linguistic features and qualitative analysis to describe the usage of its features, such as keywords, collocations, and KWIC, which are related to our study. The research combines a corpus-based approach with discourse analysis (CADA) to investigate language use in relation to transitivity analysis. The findings of our analysis reveal differences in transitivity patterns between two corpora in the news articles published in different languages. English-language discourse tends to emphasis perceptual and ideological framing that associates parties with specific values, beliefs, and moral imagery while the Indonesian-language discourse predominantly portrays the performative actions of parties. Keywords: Language and ideology, Japanese First, transivitas halliday, online discourse ABSTRAKMunculnya istilah "Japanese First" dalam wacana media publik dapat ditelusuri hingga kuartal II-2025, berdasarkan laporan terdokumentasi dan liputan berita yang dikumpulkan selama periode kompilasi data. Kata Kunci: Bahasa dan kekuasaan, Japanese First, transivitas halliday, wacana daring

Abstract

Although compounding has been widely examined within linguistic research, a systematic overview of its semantic research landscape remains underdeveloped. This study addresses this gap by offering a scientometric mapping of trends and thematic orientations in semantic research on compounding. Drawing on a corpus of 376 publications indexed in the Scopus database between 2014 and 2024, the analysis adopts a quantitative approach and employs VOSviewer to examine publication patterns, thematic structures, and research trajectories. The findings point to a steadily expanding field, with an average annual increase of approximately three publications and an overall growth of 187.5% across the eleven-year period. Reading and Writing, Cognition, and Mental Lexicon emerge as the most prominent publication venues. Thematic analysis identified three principal clusters: (a) “Compounding Formation and Description” (40.71%), encompassing terms such as “affixation,” “morphology,” “neologism,” and “word formation process,” (b) “Cognitive and Developmental Aspects of Compounding” (20.09%), characterized by keywords including “morphological awareness,” “comprehension,” “development,” and “student.”, and (c) “Semantic Interpretation and Theoretical Frameworks” (29.20%), which includes terms such as “word meaning,” “semantic composition,” “syntax,” and “theory.” Taken together, these findings offer insights into the current state and trajectory of compounding research in the light of semantics, highlighting key themes within the current patterns of advancement.
