Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Posyandu cadres provide family nutrition education and child growth monitoring. Local marine fish may be a practical complementary-food ingredient in coastal communities. Objective: To describe a training program integrating marine fish-based complementary feeding with anthropometric and growth-recording skills, and to assess paired changes in cadres’ knowledge and skills. Methods: This single-group pretest–posttest evaluation involved 15 cadres in Petoaha Village, Kendari, Indonesia, on 19 September 2026. Activities comprised interactive education, a food-preparation demonstration, guided anthropometry, and maternal and child health (MCH) handbook recording. Knowledge and skills were scored on 0–100 scales and compared using two-sided Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Results: Mean (SD) knowledge increased from 54.33 (5.94) to 85.00 (5.35), a mean gain of 30.67 points. Mean (SD) skills increased from 48.33 (6.17) to 83.33 (5.56), a mean gain of 35.00 points (both p < 0.001). Program-designated competence was recorded for 12–13 of 15 cadres (80.0%–86.7%) across five skills. Conclusion: The training was associated with substantial immediate knowledge and skill improvements. Causal effectiveness, skill retention and child-level outcomes cannot be inferred without controlled follow-up.
