Abstract

Psychological problems such as loneliness and unresolved emotional conflicts (unfinished business) are increasingly recognized as important issues in modern counseling studies because they are often associated with various maladaptive behaviors, including substance abuse. This study aims to explore how an existential approach within humanistic counseling can help individuals address loneliness and unresolved emotional issues that may contribute to the risk of substance use. This research employed a qualitative case study approach to examine the counseling process and the client’s psychological experiences during existential-humanistic counseling sessions. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation of counseling sessions, and reflective documentation. The findings indicate that existential-humanistic counseling helps clients develop greater self-awareness, reinterpret past emotional experiences, and discover meaning in their life struggles. Through authentic therapeutic relationships and phenomenological exploration, clients were able to confront feelings of isolation and gradually resolve unresolved emotional conflicts. The counseling process also encouraged clients to take personal responsibility and develop healthier coping mechanisms when facing emotional distress. These findings suggest that existential-humanistic counseling provides a meaningful framework for helping individuals transform loneliness and unresolved emotional issues into opportunities for personal growth and psychological well-being. Abstract

Guidance and counseling are assistance services provided for counselees or students and are provided both for individuals and groups to achieve certain goals and develop optimally in personal, social, learning, and career fields. Management is a process that includes planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling in carrying out an activity or program process, which has the aim of controlling the implementation of an event or program from start to finish. As is the case with guidance and counseling programs that require management in its implementation, a complex program makes management indispensable in it to control and structure the program so that it is planned, and runs well in accordance with the objectives of the program formed. The guidance and counseling program that will be discussed includes group, classical, and cross-class guidance programs. Guidance programs that do not only run for one individual but more than individual units and more than group units, therefore management takes a very important role in the implementation of the program. This research aims to identify the role of management in the implementation of guidance and counseling programs, especially in group, classical, and cross-class guidance programs. The method used in this research is qualitative with literature review techniques with a focus on management and group, classical, and cross-class guidance programs. The results obtained in this study show that there is an important role in management in the implementation of classical guidance programs with a focus on group, classical, and cross-class guidance.

Abstract

Drug abuse is one of the focus of problems that is still urgent until now, the real impact of users is seen and felt not only biologically but also psychologically. The tendency to relapse or relapse in drug users is an obstacle in prevention and rehabilitation efforts for drug users. This study aims to help clients/counselees in finding new rational beliefs and identifying addictive coping patterns that can trigger relapse, repeating crimes, or recidivism in former drug users. The method used in this study is Qualitative with a Case Study model on the subjects of five Correctional Residents (WBP) aged 20-25 years in the final period of detention who are former drug users. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, counseling interviews, and documentation. The approach used in therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Counseling with the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) approach. The main results of this study indicate the existence of irrational beliefs that trigger relapse tendencies such as; (1) Responsibility or burden of life after release, (2) Statements about easy access to narcotics, (3) Fear of negative judgment from society or those closest to them. The interconnectedness of these three factors forms an addictive coping pattern that emerges as a means of self-preservation to avoid anxiety before release. This study highlights addictive coping as a cognitive response to anxiety before release, which has not been widely studied in the context of the reintegration of narcotics inmates. The practical implications of this study include: (1) for counselors, understanding the client's cognitive and emotional state is crucial in eliminating irrational thought patterns and addictive coping as potential recidivism; (2) for school counselors, the finding that early exposure to narcotics during school confirms the need for early preventive intervention through the development of emotional regulation, rational thinking patterns, and skills in dealing with peers; (3) for the Development of the Guidance and Counseling Profession, the need for ongoing psychological support in preventing recidivism.
