Abstract

After the implementation of rice as a staple food for Indonesian society, including in Maluku, the society of Maluku has become very dependent on rice. Sagu which is a staple and particular food is no longer cultivated and utilized optimally in Maluku. Therefore, through this paper we try to offer theology of sagu, specifically for the Christian society in Maluku. By understanding sagu theologically as a blessing from God that can provide food for society and their harmonious relationship with God, mankind, and nature, this will have implications for the empowerment carried out by The Protestant Church of Maluku on human and natural resources in Maluku. Here the theology of sagu, which is proposed, is constructed from the cosmological view of the Christian society, the biblical basis of John 6:25-59, and some contemporary ecological theological ideas. The purpose of this paper is to add The Protestant Church of Maluku's ecological theology which is being developed to respond to various ecological crises in its context, Maluku. The theology of sagu, which is offered, is to strengthen the church’s Church Teachings, which has been compiled, as the direction of the church’s ministry in the future for its community.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the role of masohi in maintaining relations between the Christian and Muslim communities in the Christian and Islamic villages of Siri Sori, Central Maluku, that witnessed the communal religious conflict in the period of 1999-2004. Post-conflict social relation has the potential for establishing harmony, which is particularly important given the conflict’s tragic impact and complex social implications. This can be achieved through masohi, which embodies local wisdom. Masohi can contribute to peace and conflict resolution between the two communities. The research question in this study is whether masohi can adequately serve as a solution in that context. This research uses a qualitative approach using observation, literature study, and interviews with Christian and Muslim figures from the two communities who have practiced masohi in the Christian and Islamic villages of Siri Sori. All the data about masohi is collected, sorted, analyzed, and reconstructed using culturally-based historical awareness perspective. The results of this study show that: (1) masohi manifests in interfaith cooperation between the two communities in their history culture; (2) masohi has a constructive humanitarian characteristic; and (3) masohi can be preserved to ensure the welfare of the people and to preserve peace sustainably.

Abstract

The implementation of the General Election, including its implications for governance, has so far been full of various deviations from the principles of democracy. Therefore, with a theological perspective, democracy needs to be rebuilt to free society from democratic shifts in the Election and governance that have an impact on discomfort in living together. This article aims to construct a liberating political commitment of Christian society based on a dialogue between the ideas of democracy according to Karsadi and Franz Magnis-Suseno with the idea of the prophetic role of the church according to John Chr. Ruhulessin. The result of this study shows that a liberating political commitment can be built through the internalization of church teachings, so that the church is responsible for providing Christian political ethics education.
