Abstract

This research aims to find out how media represent the vaccine news during pandemic. This is related to the use of intensifiers as a measure of the degree of neutrality of news writers. This research is qualitative research supported by the quantification method. The data used is online news about the covid-19 vaccination in January - July 2021. A total of 43.288 words token has been collected online. This research is a corpus-based critical discourse analysis research. Three-Dimensional model by Fairclough is the theory used and applied in this research. The results show that news has the power to control the interpretation of readers and has a direct impact on social conditions. Several strategies were used by the covid-19 vaccination news writers, including the use of amplification (+intensifiers), the use of adjective collocations, and also the use of booster intensifiers. Intensifiers are mostly used to highlight the quality and enhancement of the covid-19 vaccination. This is relevant to the current condition that people are enthusiastic about vaccination programs as a result of media framing, especially news.

Abstract

Pronunciation is a critical component of spoken English proficiency, The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies has introduced new possibilities for supporting pronunciation improvement in language learning. The objective of this research is to find out the improvement of students’ pronunciation ability through of AI-based applications. A quantitative experimental design was used, involving 30 students divided into an experimental group, which used an AI-based pronunciation , and a control group, which followed traditional pronunciation . The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test then the effect size and improvement were calculted. The result of the study showed that experimental class had improvement of their Pronunciation ability. The experimental pre-test mean score was 45, while the control class' pre-test mean score was 30,7 based on statistical analysis. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies was implemented in the experimental class, and the average score increased to 70.7 whereas the control class was 30. Based on the data the experimental class had a higher mean score in the post-test while the control class got the lower mean score, in conclusion using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies can improve student’s pronunciation ability.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the impact of applying problem-based online learning strategy and online self-efficacy on the EFL students’ ability in writing a problem-solution essay. This research used quasi-experimental design. It was conducted at a reputable university in Kediri City of East Java, Indonesia, involving 81 first semester students of Pharmacy study program of Health Sciences Faculty. The students were divided into 2 groups: experimental group consisting of 41 students and control group consisting of 40 students. This research showed that the experimental group can improve their ability in writing a problem-solution essay better than the control group who did not gain online self-efficacy. Thus, having been taught how to apply a problem-based online strategy and applied online self-efficacy, students can improve their ability in writing a problem-solution essay.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki interaksi di kelas yang terjadi dalam mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris khususnya pada pelajaran speaking di program studi Administrasi Publik, Universitas Kadiri menggunakan model IRF, serta menyelidiki bagaimana pemanfaatan Flashcard sebagai media pembelajaran speaking dengan pendekatan TBLT dapat meningkatkan interaksi di dalam kelas anatara dosen dan mahasiswa. Peneliti melakukan observasi di kelas ini, sebagai pengamat pasif, peneliti mengumpulkan data dengan merekam video dan audio serta mencatat selama proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif yang mengeksplorasi atau mendeskripsikan situasi sosial terkait keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam kelas Bahasa Inggris bagi mahasiswa non-jurusan Bahasa Inggris secara mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan penggunaan flashcard sebagai media belajar di dalam kelas ini membantu meningkatkan interaksi dan keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Akan tetapi, kemampuan mahasiswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan speaking masih membutuhkan evaluasi tambahan terutama dengan memahami motivasi belajar dan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa sebelum menentukan tugas dan media yang diterapkan di dalam kelas.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the classroom interactions that occur in the English class of the Pharmacy study program at Universitas Kadiri using the IRF model and investigates how the implementation of tasks based on TBLT stimulate student engagement. The researcher conducted observations in the English class of the Pharmacy study program at Universitas Kadiri. As a passive observer, the researcher collected data by recording video and audio and taking notes during the teaching and learning process. This study is descriptive qualitative research that explores or describes social situations related to student engagement in English classes of non-English major students in depth. The results showed that the use of a sequence of tasks in this class helped to increase student interaction and engagement in the learning process. Implementing types of collaborative tasks has a positive impact on improving classroom interaction. The lecturer also initiated the interaction to help them understand the task process according to the sequence and rules. In addition, the study strongly recommends the role of lecturer as a facilitator in organizing and facilitating the learning process specifically in the process of students completing tasks.
