Abstract

Although many studies have attempted to explore the viability of Facebook for educational purposes, little attention has been paid to the employment of Facebook as a platform for e-portfolio assessment in reading classes for vocational high school students. To fill this void, this case study aimed to design, enact, and evaluate a Facebook-based e-portfolio assessment. This study adopted Lam’s (2013) logistics of the portfolio process. The data was obtained from the researcher’s and participants’ documents, observations, and interviews. Then, thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data qualitatively. The findings revealed that the instructional design for this e-portfolio assessment made the participants enjoy the learning process and promote literacy activities. The design scaffolded and engaged participants with technological activities, while the enactment process promoted active learning. The evaluation promoted self-directed learning as the participants could revise their works and choose which works to be assessed. The implications of the study and future directions were also discussed.

Abstract

Although ChatGPT can provide rapid feedback and lead to a transformation of teaching and learning, its use raises pressing ethical dilemmas for its users. To overcome this issue, the AI literacy of users needs to be increased to face educational challenges due to the use of this technology in the field of education. Therefore, this service aims to increase awareness of AI literacy and students' academic integrity in utilizing this technology. Adopting an AI Literacy Framework from an empirical study, an instructional design was developed to help students understand the advantages and disadvantages of ChatGPT, use ChatGPT for educational purposes, create commands appropriate to learning objectives, evaluate the material produced by the tool, and learn the ethics of using the information generated. This service program was based on community development using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) method in the training process and was attended by 10 students from the English Education Study Program at the University of Al-Falah As-Sunniyah Kencong Jember. Through the application of the instructional design, students were facilitated to enhance their AI literacy awareness while increasing their academic integrity. AI literacy awareness has an important role in improving the quality of academic integrity in the era of AI technology.

Abstract

Keberhasilan penerbitan suatu artikel pada jurnal internasional dapat ditentukan oleh kualitas pendahuluannya. Hasilnya, analisis genre melalui analisis langkah-langkah telah menghasilkan sejumlah model untuk mengatur bagian pendahuluan secara efektif. Akan tetapi, analisis langkah-langkah tersebut menerima sedikit perhatian untuk diajarkan kepada para penulis pemula (calon guru), sehingga tak sedikit mereka yang kesulitan untuk menulis bagian pendahuluan. Oleh karena itu, pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan penulis pemula dalam menyusun bagian pendahuluan. Mengadopsi desain penelitian studi kasus, peneliti mengajarkan model Creating A Research Space (CARS) kepada penulis pemula untuk menulis bagian pendahuluan, melalui pengajaran, praktik penulisan, dan revisi. Kemudian, hasil penulisan tersebut dianalisis menggunakan kerangka penilaian untuk mengetahui peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan penulis pemula dalam menulis bagian pendahuluan dari sebuah manuskrip. Program pengabdian ini melaporkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan kualitas tulisan pada bagian pendahuluan. Meskipun demikian, disarankan untuk terus melatih kemampuan tersebut dan mencoba mengirim naskah lengkap mereka ke jurnal internasional bereputasi.

Abstract

Since the inception of vocational secondary schools in Indonesia, the English curriculum for such schools has been considered general English rather than vocational English, which serves as the medium of English learning for the students’ future work. This issue becomes a challenge for English teachers to design their courses to align with what has been mandated in the national curriculum and, simultaneously, the students’ needs according to their major of study. To address this issue, this paper examines vocational English curriculum designs from the literature. It uses their insights to develop an English curriculum design for specific topics in a vocational secondary school context. Vocational English curriculum designs from two countries (i.e., Taiwan and Poland) and five ESP course development models from prominent academic studies were analyzed. The analysis concerns the four key aspects of ESP (i.e., needs analysis, learning objectives, materials and methods, and evaluation). This paper makes explicit the curriculum development processes in ESP courses and proposes a course design model for a specific topic in graphic design.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan jenis zakat kontemporer, lembaga dan proses manajemen zakat di Indonesia. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan teori zakat serta metode studi pustaka dan analisis dokumen yang memuat informasi yang berkaitan dengan tema kajian. Lembaga-lembaga zakat berkembang mengikuti peradaban modern. Berdasarkan analisis yang dilakukan, disimpulkan bahwa zakat kontemporer tidak berbeda dengan zakat klasik, yaitu fardhu 'ain dan merupakan kewajiban "ta'abbudi" yang terikat oleh syarat dan rukun. Beberapa contoh zakat kontemporer adalah zakat binatang ternak, zakat emas dan perak yang juga meliputi uang, zakat kekayaan dagang, zakat hasil pertanian, zakat madu dan produksi hewani, zakat barang tambang dan hasil laut, zakat investasi pabrik, Gedung, jasa dan profesi serta zakat saham dan obligasi. Lembaga-lembaga zakat di Indonesia perlu dikelola dengan baik agar zakat bisa menjadi sumber dana potensial yang dapat diberdayagunakan untuk kemaslahatan dan kesejahteraan umat Islam.  Kehadiran lembaga manajemen zakat diharapkan mampu mewujudkan tercapainya tujuan zakat dengan perencanaan, pengorganisasian, pengarahan, pengawasan serta pengendalian sumber daya organisasi yang efektif dan efisien.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of ChatGPT as an educational technology tool within the Indonesian English Language Teaching (ELT) context. Utilizing a systematic review methodology, twelve peer-reviewed articles indexed in the Scopus database were selected for analysis to examine emerging trends, pedagogical applications, perceived benefits, and associated challenges of ChatGPT in EFL education. Through content analysis, the findings reveal that 2024 witnessed the highest publication output, with higher education identified as the most commonly explored educational setting. Qualitative research designs predominated among the reviewed studies. ChatGPT was employed for a variety of pedagogical purposes, including content and idea generation, feedback provision, linguistic revision, paraphrasing, grammar checking, teaching material development, lexical and collocational enhancement, personalized learning, and improving textual coherence and cohesion. Reported benefits encompass grammar correction, resource accessibility, idea generation, vocabulary expansion, and formative feedback. Conversely, challenges include user over-reliance, ethical concerns, informational inaccuracies, insufficient cultural contextualization, embedded biases, and limitations related to prompt formulation. The findings imply a critical need for future research that expands into secondary education contexts, utilizes quantitative or mixed-method approaches, addresses the identified limitations of ChatGPT in educational settings, and employs longitudinal designs to assess its sustained impact on language learning.
