Abstract

The Role of Bissu in the Wedding Customs of the Bugis Community, Sigeri District, Pangkep Regency. So the research objective that can be achieved is to describe the role of Bissu in the wedding customs of the Bugis community, Sigeri District, Pangkep Regency. This research uses historical, anthropological, sociological and religious approaches. Bissu in Bugis society, especially in Sigeri District, Pangkep Regency, has an important role and has a high status. Bissu's role before the arrival of Islam in South Sulawesi was as a spiritual advisor, such as when carrying out mass planting involving many people. Bissu will be asked to determine the right time to start, and Bissu is also the link between humans and the gods, as well as the people and the king. Bissu certainly has other roles in various customs, especially weddings in the community in Bontomatene Village, Pangkep Regency. Bissu's many roles in wedding customs are not only Indonesian botting, each stage of Bissu marriage has a role such as Ma'manu' manu', Mappasierekeng, Mappasili', Mappacci, Mappenre Botting.

Abstract

In Gowa Regency there is a historical site as a material cultural heritage, namely the Grave Site of the Kings of Gowa which contains historical, cultural value and has meaning in the shape of the tomb. This tomb is located on Jalan Palantikang, Katangka Village, Somba Opu District, precisely on Tamalate Hill (Sultan Hasanuddin Tomb Complex). This research aims, firstly, to describe the history of the Tomb Site of the Kings of Gowa, secondly to describe the structure of the building form of the Tomb of the Kings of Gowa, and thirdly to describe the existence of the Tomb of the Kings of Gowa. Using types of field research with historical, archaeological, anthropological and religious approaches. Data collection methods are observation, interviews and documentation. Data processing and analysis techniques are data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of this research are first, the tomb site is a relic of the Gowa Kingdom which once ruled South Sulawesi. Second, the structure of the Gowa Kings Tomb building consists of four types of tombs, namely, the stepped punde cupola tomb type, the dome cupola tomb type, the stone coffin tomb type, and the stone pile (earthen mound) tomb type. Third, the Gowa Kings' Grave Site still exists today and is used as a historical tourist attraction and has an influence in socio-cultural, educational and economic aspects. The novelty of this research is to describe a historical site in terms of history, the physical form of the tomb and the existence of the tomb site to date.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the elements of Islamic culture within the mappatamma’tradition in the Julumate'ne Village community, Bontolempangan District, Gowa Regency. The appreciation of the procedure for completing the Qur'an is a compelling subject of discussion, given that the Qur'an serves as a fundamental guideline for Muslims. This research employs a cultural approach, utilizing qualitative data gathered from field studies and literature. To trace this data source, the researcher implemented techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The research methodology is descriptive, providing a detailed account of the characteristics of the research object. The findings indicate that the mappatamma’tradition emerged as a result of the efforts to promote Islam in South Sulawesi and reflects the creativity of the Muslim community, particularly the Bugis-Makassar, in deeply embedding Islamic principles within society. The mappatamma’tradition is executed in three stages: pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation. Rich in meaning and conveying messages that embody the community's value system, the mappatamma’tradition encompasses various Islamic values, including religious, social, educational, and scientific dimensions that are essential to uphold and perpetuate in contemporary life.

Abstract

This research is based on Ibn Battuta's journey from the African continent to Southeast Asia in 1333-1345 AD. On this journey, he witnessed many important Islamic events in the Middle Ages. On that basis, the purpose of the research is to find out how and what impacts and results Ibn Battuta obtained from the journey. The data collection technique for this research is through library sources. The approach used is a historical, religious and sociological approach with historical research steps, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography so that the results of the study show that Ibn Battuta was a faqih, he was a knowledgeable, persistent and evaluative person who had a background in a family of legal experts, Ibn Battuta managed to reach the Delhi Sultanate in India and occupy an important position in the Islamic kingdom and with the provision of knowledge, faith, experience and courage, he was then sent by the Delhi Sultanate to become a diplomatic ambassador in the Yuan Dynasty empire and proved that the conditions of the Middle Ages could be conveyed in detail through a work written by Ibn Juzay which was dictated directly by Ibn Battuta so that the work became one of the references for historical sources in the present day.
