Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity aims to increase public awareness and understanding of hypertension as a major non communicable disease, as well as to support early detection through blood pressure screening. The program addresses the low utilization of health services and the high prevalence of hypertension in Moleono Village, West Petasia District, North Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. Design/Methodology/Approach: The activity was conducted through community based health education and direct blood pressure examinations. Educational sessions focused on the definition, risk factors, dangers, prevention, and management of hypertension, while blood pressure measurements were carried out to identify individuals at risk. The approach emphasized participatory interaction between health educators and community members. Findings: The results showed that 44.28 percent of participants were identified as having hypertension. Community members actively participated in the educational sessions by asking questions related to hypertension management and expressed interest in obtaining antihypertensive treatment. These findings indicate a substantial burden of hypertension and a high need for accessible health information and services. Practical Implications: Regular blood pressure screening combined with health education can improve early detection, support blood pressure control, and reduce the risk of hypertension related complications. This approach is particularly important in communities with limited access to routine health care services. Originality/Value: This program integrates direct health screening with targeted education in a rural community setting, offering a practical and replicable model for strengthening community based prevention and control of hypertension in underserved areas.
