Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by the body's inability to use glucose, fat and protein due to insulin deficiency or insulin resistance which results in an increase in blood glucose levels. Type II DM is estimated to rank seventh in the cause of death in the world in 2030. Indonesia is the only country in Southeast Asia that contributes the most to the prevalence of diabetes cases in Southeast Asia. Control of high blood sugar levels needs to be done. DM sufferers need to grow confidence in themselves that they are able to control their blood sugar levels independently. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and blood glucose levels in Type II diabetes mellitus patients. This type of research was a quantitative study using a cross sectional study design, with a sample of 75 respondents. Based on the statistical test results, the results obtained were X2 count > X2 table and the Fisher's Exact Test value was 0.000 < ɑ 0.05. There was a relationship between self-efficacy and blood glucose levels in type II DM patients and based on test results the phi coefficient (φ) is obtained (φ) = 1,000 which means that it indicates a strong relationship between self-efficacy and blood glucose levels in type II diabetes mellitus patients. Growing confidence in individuals needed to carry out independent care at home

Abstract

Penyandang disabilitas semakin tahun semakin meningkat.

Abstract

Background: DM is a serious problem with the incidence rate increasing every year. Based on data obtained from the Ranomeeto Community Health Center, there are still many DM sufferers found. The results of interviews with residents suffering from DM revealed that there were DM patients who experienced peripheral neuropathy which was characterized by permanent numbness, temporary numbness, and weakness in the legs, namely numbness and cramps. The aim of this research aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of peripheral neuropathy in diabetes mellitus sufferers in the Ranomeeto Health Center Work Area. Methods: The research method used was observational using a cross-sectional design with a proportional random sampling technique with a population of 215 respondents and a sample size of 68 respondents. Results: The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between the duration of DM and peripheral neuropathy (X2 Calculation = 45.634 ≥ X2 Table = 3.841), there is a relationship between dyslipidemia and peripheral neuropathy (X2 Calculation = 14.645 ≥ X2 Table = 3.841), and there is a relationship between physical activity and the incidence of peripheral neuropathy (X2 Calculation = 39.151 ≥ X2 Table = 3.841). Conclusions: Based on the result, it can be concluded that long suffering from DM, dyslipidemia, and physical activity are factors related to the incidence of peripheral neuropathy in diabetes mellitus patients in the Ranomeeto Health Center Working Area.

Abstract

Background: Insomnia is a common sleep disorder with increasing prevalence among adults and has been linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study aimed to investigate the association between insomnia severity and CVD risk among adults. Methods: This correlational study with a cross-sectional design involved adults aged 30–59 years with insomnia. Participants were recruited using convenience sampling, at Kota Hospital and Bahteramas Hospital, Kendari, Indonesia, between November 2023 and April 2024. Insomnia severity was measured using the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and CVD risk was assessed using the Framingham Risk Score. Data were analyzed using the Pearson chi-square and multinomial logistic regression analysis. Results: Of the 144 respondents, the majority were female (59.0%), aged >50 years (62.5%) with a mean age of 49.63±10.08 years. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was the most common comorbidity (39.6%), and 57.6% were smokers. Most respondents had moderate insomnia (87%) and low CVD risk (66%). Severe insomnia was more frequently observed among participants with moderate and high CVD risk. A significant positive relationship was found between insomnia severity and CVD risk (p=0.000, r=0.669), with insomnia explaining 50.2% of the variance in CVD risk. Conclusion: Insomnia is significantly associated with cardiovascular risk and may represent a modifiable lifestyle-related risk factor. Improving sleep quality may contribute to healthier lifestyles and reduced CVD risk.
